In this video, I build a sculpture using various copper vessels. This is challenging because I am trying to retain some of the features of the copper pots and pans while also morphing them into anatomically plausible body parts for the gargoyle. Repousse and armouring techniques are used to modify the shapes. Copper rivets and soldering are utilized to join the components together.

Nailed it! Nothing more needs to be said.
Absolutely incredible. Just so criminally underrated man. Unbelievable work!!
This frankengoyle with an evil shine in the eyes is awesome 👍
You’re craftsmanship never fails to inspire me and is beyond impressive.
Overall your gargoyle spot on embodies beastality without looking cartoony or cheesy as others have said. The finish is very beautifully rugged, I’m also a huge fan of copper and love the dark brown colors melded with the shiny highlights. Keep up the good work man! Long time fan and find your artistic craftsmanship to be awesome.
Love to see your creativity and skill! Amazing.
I love the process; start to finish. The finished product turned out better than the clay sculpture, which is also excellent. Great job on the hands! Awesome!
Very cool, would love to see it up close and personal.
Its good to hear someone who I consider a full artist in their own right talk about where you draw your inspirations. The gargoyle might have had wings if it were me making the sculpture, but that's a personal design choice at best. Love you Thak, and I hope you never stop making incredible art!
I would have added wings if I had appropriate copper plates in my source pile ....but alas....it was not to be
Ya, you pulled it off !!
Cool the gargoyle looks badass
You certainly don’t need to second guess your decision. I have followed you for years and you constantly blow me away with your amazing techniques that you use to express yourself thru art. I absolutely love your artwork.
Turned out really cool Rob!
I think it is absolutely awesome!
This is incredible, I've always been impressed by your work, but the distance you covered from where you started to what you ended up with was astonishing for this project. I think you did a fantastic job of balancing a cohesive final product vs keeping the original shapes w/o looking too steampunk-y/frankenstein-y. Very, very well done!
Very impressive!
What I wouldn't give to spend a week with your tutelage!
Amazing job! all it's missing is the wings.
That is such a cool project! And what a challenging set of parameters but you pulled it off. The client certainly picked the right artist for the job. You rock!
You nailed it. Great job.
Fantastic idea, mine however for my Halloween Diorama are gonna be on mausoleum and gravestone's.
This video should be much longer, i would have loved to see more of the proces, absolutely amazing!
My Video guy and myself had a discussion about that. My focus was about thought process on this one, but, It could have used more process footage. Next time we will have a better balance.
nevertheless! Great project! At my old smithing school we used to do sculptures out of old tongs and tools and scraps we had lying around as welding project. Scraps are sometimes very inspiring. But this project you just released is damnest! Really well done! words can't express! =) @@ThakIronworks
Amazing work!
Totally awesome
Love it, Amazing.👍👍
Amazing!!I love it!!!
Absolutely love it.
Its really fricken cool.
I continue to be humbled and in awe at your talent.
Critique? I would not have the temerity to critique this masterful work of art; especially considering that you were working with scrap to make the gargoyle AND wanted to retain a semblence of the former life of the scrap.
The scope and complexity of what you pulled off is staggering.
In medieval times, a wise King would have kept you in his court as his personal armourer and sculptor and he would have handsomely rewarded you.
In the absence of a generous and benevolent King, I ask Canadians in particular, to stop being such cheap so and sos and support our talented countryman on patreon.
How are things up there? What is the forest fire situation?
@@ThakIronworks PM'd you
So much talent! Amazing how you can take existing items and use them to create such a cool sculpture. It turned out amazing, it looks lively, sinister and nothing like a Disney tacky, cheesy amalgamation.
That is a great artistic work. Well done. Always a delight to see your work.
👍ពិតជាគួរឲសរសើរមែនៗ
Love it! Looks amazing! Only critique is I would've polished the teeth to make them stand out and increase the visciousness.
I considered it...but it seemed almost to pronounced when I experimented with it
You definitely nailed it in all respects. It also had a great Frazettaesque look. Awesome.
Dude you fucking crushed it 🍻
upto halfway through i was thing its looking like a bag of shite, unusual for your builds. Then low and behold at the end it all comes together like magic, absolutley stunning workmanship. Master at work as usual :)
Totally nailed the balance between keeping the forms and shapes, and not making it look like a pile of soldered-together pots. I’m sure the client will be able to recognise where all the pieces come from, but the sculpture as a whole is really cool.
One minor and pedantic point of critique is that it’s a grotesque and not a gargoyle, as it doesn’t convey water. Someone had to be that guy. Sorry it was me. 🙄
Great work as always.
Yes...you are right....but everybody recognizes the word gargoyle....few have ever heard of a grotesque
And only pedants would care, anyway. 😂
👏👏👏
Seriously cool! I did find the pose/posture a bit confusing, unsure why the gripping of the ankle by the left hand was happening, but when it comes to form and proportion there's definitely that class sense of burly/stunted gargoyle shape going on.
It's a tantric sex pose
@@ThakIronworks That explains it! Much obliged. 😁
If she don't like it, feel free to send it my way. ;)
Beautiful work! Found object sculpture is one of the coolest and most difficult forms. My main question would be how much does something like that cost. Full disclosure, I am a metal artist myself and I know what I would charge, just curious what You would charge for it.
I also wont be offended if you dont answer. It is a bit of a volitile question.
Great and inspiring work as always!
Email me at info@thak.ca...I will tell you there
Who was the Irish sculptor who made the gargoyle you googled?
I lost the sheet and can't find him online
Just a wild guess but it wouldn’t happen to be Michael Keane. He does a lot of bronze animal sculptures.
Rob you are amazing mate , That turned out awesome . With no disrespect mate you just turned shit into Gold . 👍🤑🤠
