Got my period back in January and watching this answered a lot of questions I didn’t know I had about the time leading up to getting it back. Thank you 💖
Even though I have regular periods and have never struggled with this issue personally, I enjoyed this video! Menstruation is so natural, and I love learning more about it where I can. The main thing I've been struggling with recently that isn't that relevant to this video is my body image and how I view myself, since I'm a bigger person and I've been putting myself down for it for the past few years, and I'm struggling to deal with it. I think it's a good thing though that I've noticed it's an issue, and I'm aware of it so I can start working on it. I definitely need to watch your video on self-love advice, I'm really enjoying more of your sit-down videos at the moment!
if your ever wanting to learn more about menstruation and female reproductive health, check out @famtaughtme on instagram. she is a wonderful teacher for all things related to these issues, very well informed and well researched and backed by science, and very good at sharing this information in a digestible manner. i’ve learned so much about my body since following her and i appreciate what my body does for me so much more 💗💗
ah chloe i am so happy you've recognised this, because small problems like this are so much easier to solve if we 'nip them in the bud' (as the saying goes) 😌 we will all have good times and bad times in our life, but i am sending all my positive vibes your way right now 🙌🏻💚
After losing my period for about 6 years and getting it back last year in similar ways to you, this video is sooo needed for many people! Thank you for being so open, honest and encouraging - it’s not good not to have a period and getting it back is awesome in so many ways! ☀️
Holly, I have been watching your videos for a couple of years now. You are such an inspiring person, always so positive and I wish I had known what you were going through. I am SO GLAD you got your period back, I love to see you healthy and happy with yourself. I love you so much, Holly
I lost mine for nearly six months because of being underweight and anorexia Now I have it back and I am so happy to be one step closer to being happy and healthy❤️❤️
As someone in the medical field and who also experienced hypothalamic amennorhoea (secondary to over exercising / undereating and being oblivious that that was the cause at the time ) while obviously it is fair if you don't want to me on the pill (I wouldn't ever use it now) , but if you haven't had a period for 6 years , the pill or even HRT is there to increase your oestrogen levels which is so important while you can't produce healthy levels itself, especially for your bone and cardiovascular health. Just saying this for any girls reading this without periods, not for Holly anymore obviously :) and it is the advice i would give younger me :)
People used to say that social networks are not usefull but thanks to videos like this i feel like i am not alone in this and it gives me a lot of hope, thank you and thanks to the internet 🖤🖤🖤
Hey holly, you lovely lady! I haven't watched the video yet, just scrolled through YT and came across the beautiful thumbnail of the video and I have just one word for the transformation, it's goddamn PHENOMENAL! You are the most inspiring soul, ever. Much love! ❤
Every time I watch one of your videos on this topic I feel SO proud of you. Like weirdly proud 😂 I've been through this process myself and seeing you realise this stuff about YOURSELF (it's one thing to understand it as a biologist, and another to apply it to yourself) has my so relieved and proud not only that you're taking so much more care of yourself, but unashamedly sharing and advocating for it. ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Holly, thank you for sharing this. I didn't have a period for around the same time as you, difficult to define mind. I had to have a bone density scan after a sternum fracture which showed osteoporosis. You've done amazingly well and I'm sure you'll help others by sharing your story. It's so important. If you haven't had a bone density scan I'd recommend asking your GP for one, I take prescription calcium daily. Take care!
Holly thank you for sharing your experience, I never thought this problem can occur I should be more aware and I learn a lot. So happy that you finally get your period back 💖
Only about 5 minutes in, but : 1) I DO remember that vlog! For some reason it stuck with me more than some of your vlogs and it is really interesting now to find out what was going on. And 2) I am loving how open you are, seeing your mental (and with that, physical) progress and I can imagine these last few videos being so important for girls and young (and maybe not so young) women out there. Be well :)
i know, it was a pretty crazy vlog, and now you have the final piece of the jigsaw! 😉 and thank you!!! as i said, i just feel like i have a responsibility to talk about this stuff and make people more aware of what, anyone really, can go through 💚
Thank you for this video, I'm trying to get my period back since a month and this video gave me motivation to fight with my bad thoughts and to eat more
@@HollyGabrielle im so scared and still have trouble sharing this, but you have made me determined to get mine and to finally get better x thank you so much
@@ninamaurer4140 that fear is SO valid but working to get your period back and become healthier is 100% the right track. Keep reminding yourself of why you're doing this. You've got this!!
i haven't had my period in 2 years... i think i'm ready to change that now (i think what's not letting my body bring it back might be my lack of good sleep and all the exercise i do...)
I had a similar experience with a doctor who told me not to worry about my period loss because I would naturally get it back when I'll meet "my prince on a white horse". Unfortunately this problem is often not taken seriously.
💓💖Thank you Holly I'ce missed my period for 4 months but now I feel more confident in understanding what may be the problem. But I will still go to a professional.
I have watched your videos for a while, and wondered if you had been getting your period given the three factors you mentioned. Well, I am glad that you now have it and that you are brave enough to discuss it here. Admittedly I felt a bit sad and mad watching this, because no doubt many people watch your videos and want to emulate you. Not that you are responsible for how people feel, but I do think CZcamsrs should keep in mind social responsibility. Now is your time and opportunity to really help young women with your experience, knowledge and this platform. In my teens (a long time ago now!), I had an ED and lost my period. Some of the medical checks afterwards were traumatic. I also had to learn to change my mindset and let go of perfectionism.Thankfully I recovered and now have children. Periods are part of our feminine power. Getting to know our cycles, the physical and mental changes that happen through the month, is a potent gift that you can give yourself.
Oh I remember that vlog! I'm glad now that ultimately you were so troubled for a good reason 🧡 My period is pretty regular, but I have missed a few because of an insane amount of stress during the last months. I always try and take it as a friendly reminder to take better care of myself.
Holly, I am glad that you found a protocol which worked wonders for you and you were able to get your period back. You are doing very well and you are flourishing because of your changes which you made.
I lost my period when I was 17 due to PCOS! I'm 22 (almost 23) now and I've never gotten it back. I saw a doctor about it after 6 months and through investigations was also diagnosed with a 15cm ovarian cyst! Since then I've had to start medication to trigger a period to reduce my risk of uterine cancer. Because mine is caused by a lack of ovulation, my uterine lining still thickens.
I suffer from PCOD and I've not had regular periods since 2017. Medicines and heavy meds don't do much for me. Hopefully, every thing will get better soon
I'm currently having the exact same tug of war about wanting to get my period back. Part of me doesn't want it back but the rational part of me knows I need to. Its hard
so far recovered from 6 month amenhorea....2 regular cycles of period. This might have helped me(consult specialist first): 1. healthy fats (dark chocolates, avocados, cottage cheese) 2. carbs in every meal 3. low cardio and more strength training(more rest days) 4. reduced stress(no people pleasing, no guilt feeling, no comparison) 5. little bit of from everything(bit of dairy, meat, legumes, sugar from fruits, chocolate) HOWEVER i ve never eaten deep fried foods or cakes or icecreams or butter/ghee and i drank more water since i wanted to reduce my period cramps(so far its working) so far how im feeling? 1. no more chest pains 2. no thinning hair
for me, its the same duration since 2013 I lost it, got it back once in 2017 and completely lost it again… until last Year something changed completely. during the pandemic I experienced a lot of less stress and being more food relaxed and simply eating more. I must say I still exericised a lot, but also was okay when I didnt had time to do something. I started getting sore 🍒 and had acne on my back, simply going through puperty again… But now for the first time in my life I have a regular period, the acne is going back. Couldnt be more happy. also I realised the impacts of the menstrual cycle which i found soo interesting.
Can we just sit and talk about how terrible of a job healthcare does when it comes to women’s health? I’ve gone to so many doctors due to missing periods, and literally all there ever told me was “here’s a birth control pill.”

Absolutely roared with laughter when you did that overlay from one of your biology videos and we were treated to 4 "talking" hands instead of the usual 2 lol 😉
I can't recommend Sports Dietitian Renee McGregor enough on this topic. Doctors may recommend the pill, but this can obscure the fact that we simply aren't consuming enough calories or something else like PCOS. I also recommend Dr. Nicola Rinaldi (she wrote No Period Now What.) Abbey Sharp is also a great science-based resource on CZcams - she is a nutritionist who recovered from orthorexia and struggled with fertility and she dedicates a lot of her content to shooting down wellness bullshit online.
sometimes... it is just is... I have been overweight for a significant period of my life... I did have problems with it (low self esteem, body image issues, irregular periods, easy fatigability etc) they began to disappear once I started losing weight... thankfully I am in the normal BMI range now and I feel better 🤗
Sometimes weight reduction helps for period issues. I know someone who messes up periods if she puts on weight and it gets back to normal once she reduces a kg or two

Pcod is when you miss your period but then it comes back or when it is irregular. Amenorrhea is when you don't have it anymore.
