I've always felt there was two big flaws in the "kids don't like trains" reasoning behind them skipping TocQger: 1) kids absolutely do love trains, and not just the preschool crowd. Trains pop up in kids show and other forms of entertainment alot because they're fun to use as a literary device; there's a well established romantic notion of riding the rails on some exotic adventure. If you don't believe me, look up how many Hogwarts Express train sets have been sold over the years. But more importantly, 2) the idea that kids don't like trains is purely an American cultural mindset. Even if the colorful imaginative adventures of a TocQger adaption wasn't enough to sell any zord sets stateside, pretty much every other country (Western and Eastern) that Power Rangers gets distributed to has some sort of rail line system as an integral part of their public transportation infrastructure. You can't tell me any train zords wouldn't sell like hotcakes in the international market, especially given how easy they would be to collect and play with.
Really I think it was just easier to blame it on the season being train-themed than it for them to outright say the whole season felt too "childish" for the boys 6-10 market they were aiming for, like they aren't an aisle over from the Barbie dolls and Playmobil toys in the average supermarket.

The kids don't like trains reason is actually the first time i have heard of said reason but it could be based on the more commonly talked about reason for why they decided to skip toqger which was actually that the show had really disappointing toy sales in japan
and since power rangers like a lot of other kids shows exists to sell toys they do look at the sales data from the sentai shows more when they are optioning the shows
Since they had the disappointing toy sales data and kids possibly not going to like show due to the train theme and probably other reasons as well they like the video mentioned went with the safer option to adapt instead.

    • @HenshinHead
      @HenshinHead Před 2 lety +13

@@Teh_Spirit well, now that's a different matter all together. If you can't sell a show about trains to kids in Japan you're doing something wrong! Always sad when it's the more inventive seasons that wind up doing poorly in toy sales, because the whole color/power swapping thing and being able to bring the things they imagine to life are pretty interesting concepts, at least on paper. Kind of ironic given that they went with the simplified train motifs to keep things *streamlined* enough to bring all these big ideas they had for the show to life.

Basically, if I were to adapt "ToQger" as a "Power Rangers" series, I'd make it time travel themed much like "Kamen Rider Den-O". The Rangers would use their Rainbow Line Train to chase the Shadow Line across time and space ala "Doctor Who".
I'd make the main rangers foster siblings. Mainly so "Power Rangers" could finally try out the sibling team dynamic "Super Sentai" has done several times before (Fiveman, GoGoV & Magiranger) whilst also being able to continue the show's tradition of having a racially diverse cast.
Also, I can't find it at the moment, but I remember at a Power Morphincon panel Blue Ninja Steel Ranger Peter Sudarso commented on how he'd personally adapt the Sentai "Zyuohger".
If I remember correctly, he said he'd have it be similar to the premise of the 2019 film "Jumanji: The Next Level", in that it tells the stories of kids who get sucked into a video game and have to fight enemies in the digital world in order to get home whilst having to live in teenage/young adult avatar bodies, but with the minds and emotionally maturity of preteens. He said that this would be so that the adult actors would have a logical in-story reason to act like younger kids.

Where the main villain King Necros (Emperor Z) plans to destroy the barriers and cover all the worlds in darkness. If it were up to me I'd have a Toqger adaptation be a mini-series.

How I think they could go around these factors when it comes to adaptions:
-Make the railway intergalactic, so it is a series of 'space trains'.
-Have it set in the future, which will explain away way the trains look all shiny and colourful or some sh*t like that.
-Have the rangers be little kids that transform in a manner like Shazam, which will explain away why they are 'childish' (which is a stupid reason why it isn't adapted as PR is for kids anyway)
-Or just make THIS particular series a comedic Power Rangers series that doesn't take itself seriously except for the dark parts, and a team that banters with each other, and clearly not the type of rangers you'd expect but their heart is in the right place and end up saving the day in the end.

The villains would be the original rulers of the planet, imprisoned by an unknown force centuries ago, who are accidentally freed and begin shutting down the main stations of transport all over the planet, which in turn would cripple and decimate life, as they try to reclaim total power. Five strangers would be chosen from the five main districts to work together as Power Rangers, a force which has never been seen on this planet.

I've heard one of the reasons it wasn't adapted was because it'd wouldn't make sense story wise because of how trains are so uncommon in the US, but the solution is so simple. Have it be set in the RPM universe or on Mirinoi. Make the backstory that they developed railroads to easily transport goods to different colonies. Have the villains be an alien army or an ancient evil and that they've taken over most of the colonies and so these train rangers have to put a stop to them.

I think a ToQger adaptation can be made as sort of a sequel to Lightspeed Rescue. Carter Grayson - Lightspeed Red - is the mentor for a new group of Rangers, the Rail Rescue Force. There would be returns of some old Lightspeed villains and some villains from ToQger. Also, Carter could return as the 6th Ranger, badassery and all...

  • @theblackwidower
    @theblackwidower Před 10 měsíci +3

The idea that they couldn't do it because the theme wouldn't fit is baffling because that's kinda the point of Power Rangers, in my mind. It's a loose localized adaptation of Super Sentai. Skipping series like that is basically like skipping entire books of Harry Potter. Just, we're not going to do Goblet of Fire, just skip it, no need. And if the theming of that particular series makes it difficult to adapt locally, well that is when you get the good writers in.
They've done it before! Look at RPM! A dark gritty series about the post-apocalypse. You couldn't get darker without the planet actually exploding. The bad guys have already won. Billions are dead. There's only one city left. Now, the closest you can get to victory is survival. That's fucking dark! That's the darkest I've ever seen any media that is ostensibly for kids go. Only thing that comes close is Animorphs and that's basically about children committing war crimes.
And the sentai series RPM was based on? Well it was one of the most juvenile kid-friendly series in the entire franchise, and it was themed around mecha which were cartoonish fusions of cars and animals. But they already planned to make it something dark and gritty. And rather than say, 'that couldn't work,' they asked, 'how can we make it work?' And they did a brilliant job at it.
Now, let's look at Toqger, and consider a parallel universe where *that* was the season they tried to make dark and gritty. It... just... Snowpeircer. Like, the entire series is basically Snowpeircer. I'm not saying it would be easy, but it could work. If you try, you can make anything work. They just gave up too easily.

I’m still really disappointed that we haven’t gotten this season and honestly )while I can see the reasons this season couldn’t be adapted ) I believe the people running power rangers just have to look past any potential flaws these unadapted Sentai may have and strive for their potential already.
We keep hearing “this Sentai can’t be adapted because…..*blank* reason”. “tokkyuger can’t be adapted” “LuPat can’t be adapted” “kyuranger can’t be adapted” at a certain point what CAN be adapted?? The real reasons (in my opinion) these seasons “can’t” be adapted is because, the people running the show have the luxury of picking and choosing what is the easiest season to adapt now that we are so far behind the Sentai. Instead of just taking what they’re given and doing their best to make it work; they can now skip and make excuses as to why they “can’t” adapt whatever season.

You can easily get around the lack of trains in New Zealand. Just build a train station set on a soundstage and use the Sentai footage for the exterior and aerial shots of the Japanese train stations, or however they did it. I didn't see ToQger

I hope that they will make a movie or series of the Skipped ranger(super sentai) teams with different storyline from the super sentai
Or they can just use the suits/costumes of the Skipped Super Sentai teams then create new story

Iirc they said that PR toy trains never sell well, so they decided just skipped it
While for doubtsu sentai zyuohger, they simply have one of, if not the worst mech/zord in modern-day sentai history, which is basically just cube stacking, not to mention their morpher, a fckin rubick cube

I was very disappointed and sad that we still never got a ToQger adaption in Power Rangers and I don’t think we’ll ever get one. Also, ToQger is the Super Sentai series I completed watching with all the episodes back in 2017 when I got into Super Sentai. I also remember the main mecha ToQ-Oh with something very weird and wrong attached to it. 😂

Unless it was a fever dream…. Didn’t toqger megazord have an attack where the red train folded down and….. extend from the crotch? Definitely a scene that wouldn’t make the cut here XD

in honesty i don’t think ToQger wouldn’t be possible to adapt but not unadaptable could adapt the toy line though ever since Super Megaforce they turned into past rangers of sentai like Dairanger/Squadron to others as well such as Maskman to some others if those past seasons are truly unadaptable could just adapt the toys of Fiveman and others were just given Power Ranger title names like Lightning Battalion and so on so i think giving ToQger a Power Ranger title can get the toys only instead of it being a ranger series

Thomas is not the train engine, its Thomas the Tank Engine, I grew up with that show before Power Rangers came along!
As for this team that got rejected, the suits look terrible, I'm not surprised that it got rejected, but maybe Hasbro with their future plans might decide to revisit the villians and bring them across with changes

I can't see ToQger being adapted ever. Frankly, I see Zyuohger having a better shot because their Mecha and weapons are cube based. What's popular in the US and is cube based? Minecraft. Kids will connect the two very easily and the toys will fly off the shelves.

It’s odd how trains aren’t thought of as “popular” in the west but I mean I get it. For example, the train bots from 2001 transformers robots in disguise didn’t sell well and so Takara Tomy said they would not be making them anymore
