Just passed my test and absolutely hate roundabouts
Any tips
@@oneronso any advice mate got exam soon
@@saintsrow2fanforlife537 to not forget to check mirrors on your test always remember check your rear view mirrors anytime you see a traffic light; this way the examiner can see you’re always checking your mirrors and being observant, I failed my first test years ago simply for not looking at the mirrors enough
Well u shouldn't drive then mate
@@princedesouza69 idiot, learner driver are allowed to make mistakes. This is how they learn from it. You sound like you’re such a perfect person telling others not to be driving then! Idiot
and if you live in the West Midlands where the roundabouts are fucking weird, always pull up in the right hand lane and do a few loops whilst you scope the situation out.
If this ain’t the truth.
😂
That's what I can confirm, many round about are not actually round here, they come in all shape and sizes and some time bit confusing for new driver in the area especially for striagh aheads and right turns
Always stay on your lane, very important
I followed your advice and it's been a month since I have been enter the roundabout, pls send help
@@giacomoculcasi6331You have a huge tank and incredible fuel economy.
This is the issue with me and many as some of us like me doesnt understand our lane. Call me stupid but i am having it hard to find my lane and drive😢
Well if you're turning right, you have to come out of your lane to exit the roundabout.
@@ungratefulmango If you're turning right you cross from the inside lane that you're in, straight to the exit. Do not change into the outside lane before turning just cross directly over the outside lane as in the diagram in the video. Changing lane on a roundabout is not allowed.
Daughter in driving seat being taught verbally about roundabouts by her driving instructor, he’s taken nearly 25 mins to explain, thought i would come on CZcams and see about roundabouts, this video is so simple to understand roundabouts, could of saved £33, never mind!!
The information in this clip is bare bones, doesn't touch on how to give way safely (including how to actually judge the size of a gap), or how to handle junctions with changed priorities or unconventional layouts. There's a reason professional instructors take much longer than a CZcams Short to explain these things.
Unless roadmarkings indicate otherwise. For example if the left lane has a left turn arrow in it you will then need to use the right lane to take the 2nd exit.
Well that was simple! Thank you ☺️☺️
As someone who had a learner driver (with instructor) pull out of the lane to my left as I was heading to the second exit - this reassures me that they were definitely in the wrong!
If a learner is on test, the supervisor won't intervene until it's absolutely essential to avoid a collision. That's why learner vehicles are marked as such - because they could potentially make risky manoeuvres or behave unpredictably.
I do this, always have done. So many just take their lucky favourite lane and never indicate its like a giant roulette wheel
Since the road isn't marked for directions and is a dual carriageway way to dual carriageway. You can also use the right-hand lane to enter the straight on rosd in the right-hand position
Not true. An unmarked roundabout should be used as per the video.
beautifully simplified!
Love the simplicity thank you
Not that simple for some who dont signal!
For anyone who lives in a country where you drive on the right side, in this video right is left and left is right
Thank you you are right 👍🏼. USA is easy for driving. USA is no roundabout. UK is everywhere round about.
@@minapatel8627there are many roundabouts in the us. They’re becoming more and more common and once the rest of the country realizes now much more efficient and safe they are compared to traffic lights, they will be everywhere
Lovely advice, very helpful. Thanks.
Would be great this if !!! you used the bottom road to demonstrate. When looking at roundabout sign’s we’re always entering from the bottom 😊
They say to enter either lane when turning right but this is bad, always go to the right hand lane then signal left to entr the inside lane once you enter to prevent crashing into drivers on the inside that may come in fast behind you from the last road you pass.
Thank you
In Denmark you don't have to signal left in a roundabout with two lanes. You can just drive into it without signaling and then you signal right to exit on the third or fourth exit. If you want you may signal left in this situation.
?
@@ChrisAndCatsthey're saying you don't indicate which exit you're intending to use until you're approaching it.
According to the clip above, in the UK you should indicate right before your enter the roundabout if you're intending to turn right.
In Denmark they drive on the other side, so their rules regarding roundabouts are reversed.
In Australia (at least Victoria) you do not need to indicate right before entering a roundabout for a right turn, you just indicate left after passing the exit before the one you want.
It's considered polite to do it anyway, but it shouldn't be necessary due to the requirement to give way to anybody already on the roundabout.
You're allowed to change lanes at any time during the roundabout, although it's bad form to do it if you're not entering or exiting. As a result, you shouldn't enter in front of anybody in the roundabout regardless of their lane or indicator.
Indicating is still courteous because it allows the other drivers to anticipate when you'll be out of the way and giving them more time to react.
Unless there's a long queue to turn left. In which case get into the right lane, indicate right, go all the way round and take the 5th exit indicating before you do so.
It's also important courtesy to give the thumbs up sign to the person giving way and indicating left on the 4th exit.
This should be shown on the hour every hour 7 days a week nationally. Some people simply don't understand roundabouts even simple ones like on the video.
Just what I needed thk u
Depends on lane marking
Absolutely. There is a road Corby to Kettering where you can use the left and right lane to turn right! Not sure who designed it, but they obviously hadn't passed a driving test :-(
This is for standard roundabouts where there are no direction arrows or lane notifications. However, I indicate right if going straight on on most roundabouts cos I've found if I don't people think I'm going left as I follow the lane instead straightlining it like they would! I also find doing that helps in high tourist areas or on roundabouts with 'odd' direction arrows as people don't think you're going straight on in some lanes they think are left only.
Imdicate right if going straight? No
Thanks a lot
I’m watching from Switzerland 🇨🇭 and coming soon 🔜
That video I was searching 👍🏻
Thank you so much for your help 😊
Nice theory pal
Wow thank you
Some roundabouts for the second exit (straight on) can be marked to use lane 2. You need to add in, use lane 1 if no road markings saying to use another lane or you will have a lot of drivers doing it wrong and possibly causing accidents.
This is why I failed.. had no clue coz there weren’t any lane markings on the roundabout and I went too far into the middle when I was going straight ahead
3rd exit is wrong, you should be moving to the left lane as you’re pass 2nd and leaving on the left lane…
You don’t always get to in real life.
Agreed, unless you're going to exit onto the right hand lane. It doesn't always work out if it's a small roundabout with little space between exits and the lanes are busy. This is why spiral roundabouts work better imo.
If there’s no opportunity to cut thru from inner lane, are we allowed to stop in the inner lane? No, right? So i agree, we should move to the outer lane if we are intending to exit.
The irony is that in India nobody follows lanes while driving. They think that whole road itself is a lane and you can drive at any side. Here a vehicle which has to turn right is driving in the extreme left lane and a vehicle which has to go straight is in the right lane where some vehicles are waiting to turn right side.
Roundabouts in the UK look so confusing compared to the US
I have driven in the US many times and never seen a roundabout.
How come?
@@jamescorrigan2777 don’t think they have any 😅
Roundabouts are safer and improve traffic flow
@@Platty6987 yeah i live in Canada and have only ever seen 1 roundabout there’s definitely some throughout Canada and the US but they are extremely rare to see
I hate going inner circle as there is a possibility for someone going outer one when i want to go there
Thank you! God bless truly
Such an excellent eg
Thanks!!
Genius!!!
Hi I'm from India. Unwritten rule here "whichever is the main road(busier road) they have priority" .
Some people know actual rules. So if they stop and give way before entering roundabout, the vehicles behind will blast their horn beeeeeeep continuously (move off you *****, get out of my way). & They would give a damning look once they pass us.
Even if you know the rules you're forced to not follow it & just go with the flow.
Road signage and markings may direct you to a different lane for straight-on, as anticipated by highways analysis of traffic flow
Unless you drive a premium German car in which indicator use is optional.
I don't know what you mean?
*confidently speeds off in BMW and immediately wraps it around a tree*
weird, in germany you indicate to the right, and only before exiting the roundabout and never to the left or indicate into the roundabout.
Which is 100 times better, as it leaves no room for ambiguity.
Here indicating on the "wrong" side makes it clear for you where you want to go, but nit for anyone who did not see you enter 😂
Using the example above Can you enter the roundabout if the driver to your right is using the inside lane to go straight ahead and you want to turn left at the same exit.
Don’t quite understand that but always give way to your right
The driver you're giving way to in that scenario will quite possibly drift to the outside to take the exit, so no. Don't enter the roundabout until there are no cars approaching in either lane on the roundabout.
Read the signs before you get to the junction. As standard the left Lane is for straight over but not all straight over lanes are on the left. They can be right and centre too.
❤ thanks
Very nice 👌
Nice one
The HWC and DES say that when taking an intermediate exit, use the most appropriate lane on approach 👍
On the roundabout in the example you can use both lanes to go straight
That was helpful
Helpful!
Just read the Bloody Highway Code you fool.
this is the general rule but sometimes some roundabouts will have slightly different markings. so basically, it's everything what this short mentions "unless stated otherwise".
As a truck driver I can tell you no cars do this when I’m on a roundabout, they think it’s a place for overtaking. Now I hug the outside of the roundabout when turning right.
do you mean you sit in the left lane and use it to go for the 3rd exit? Please don't, the number of times I've nearly been killed by a lorry driver doing this without indicating when we've been sat at the junction waiting to go - and never on a small roundabout where i'd expect them to need more space either.
Thats just insane for someone whos not out of GB
Just watch the video in a mirror.
These are simple, it's when you get 3 or 4 together with more lanes. Once used, you know how it works for next time, it's just foreign roundabouts with different setups that can throw you off.
I'll be driving in the UK again for the first time since the C word. I'm terrified. I drive on the other side. And I'll be getting a rental.
In England is different Sir. Nobody use indicator, nobody stay in line and every single driver keep foot on break when they are waiting on traffic lights and so on. If you gently tell them that some behaviours are not acceptable on road, they will attack you, insult you or smash your window.
Unless there is marking to the contrary, then, with the example shown, it is perfectly OK to go straight on from the right hand lane as the exit has two lanes. However, just be careful over what any vehicle is doing on your left, and don't use it as an opportunity to overtake on the roundabout.
What catches many out is that as approaching a roundabout and you are staying in the left hand lane... Intending to go straight across, as your coming up to it you see an arrow painted on the road pointing only left and then you got a choice. Impede the traffic and indicate to go into the next lane or go fecking left and hope it don't take you miles to get back to where you wanted to go. Please do one of the tragic (magic) roundabout in Swindon. Wtf is that nightmare all about. You have to watch everything as not many people know wtf to do on it.
Can anyone explain me plz how we choose lane on second exit like how do i know if its right lane or left lane?
Unless you are in Milton Keynes. Left lane is marked left turn only on most roundabouts. 😮
O' now I know. Now i know where I have been going wrong since my test 30trs ago
Problem is that many drivers don’t signal when turning first left ….leaving the drivers trying to turn onto the roundabout in a dilemma … whole system becomes a stressful inefficient and open to collisions.
Good
There's a roundabout near me where I regularly see people turning right using the outside lane of the roundabout instead of the inside lane (as shown in this video). It's so dangerous! I've seen several near misses. I came hear to check and its as I thought, but that will be no consolation if I get hit :-/
Why you choose right hand lane on 2nd exit what if you fail for this i think for second exit it could be left lane ???
The roundabout near my test center has two lanes. Left lane is for turning left only and right for second and third exit . I know many people who have failed for using the left lane instead of the right.
Over simplified. Some roundabout have more than two lanes. At the junction of the A5 and A43, going north, you turn right onto the A43 from the LEFT hand lane.
Firstly you need to position your vehicle and after positioning you should signal
Thats for a two lane roundabout, and two lane approach. I know a few with three lanes on approaching it, and three lanes on the roundabout. Is the third lane just for someone who wishes to go round infinitely 😅
You can enter inside lane as well
Why can’t you stay in the left lane to take the third exit? Surely that’s easier than having to cross in front of everyone
Nope. Check the highway code, rule 186 I think. Right lane for turning right unless signs and road markings state otherwise. Respectfully, what do you think the right lane is for? Maybe it's easier for you, but it's not correct and often dangerous because other people are expecting you to be following the highway code. I always wondered why people do that.
Because its a fucking roundabout and thats not how roundabouts are supposed to work
What lane do I choose if there are say 5 lanes. In this example the car has choice of 2 lanes. This is easy... what about more than 2 lanes?
I’m pretty certain when I learnt to drive you should signal right if going straight ahead, until the exit before then signal left. It was changed at some point and I think it’s less safe. ‘Not doing something’ is not a good sign of intent.. so many people don’t signal you can easily misinterpret what the driver has in mind. Still, I do what video says these days so if anything happens I will be in the right (at least in that regard)
No thats wrong.
On taking the third exit, I have seen traffic cops on CZcams stop someone for taking the inside lane and crossing the outer lane to take the exit.
This only applies to UK.
In Germany you only indicate when exiting, as there is no ambiguity unlike here, where indicating on the wrong side is nonsensical, as people who don't see where you entered will not know where you want to exit.
Great tips
if turning right you need to be in the outside lane before turning off , as there could be a slower car in the outside going across and cut you off?
Well there shoundt be. As everyone has a yield sign coming into the roundabout.
this is in UK people
I tried to follow this advice but theres a plane above me! What do I do now???
So you cut the outer lane while exiting the roundabout (turning right )? I hope you do not drive like that
If you dont know how to use a roundabout you shouldn't be allowed within 5 miles of driving a car. Its basic road skills.
This is meant for people learning for the first time bro
These need showing on national television at peak times with someone reading the Highway code?
How do I send this video to people when I’m approaching a roundabout!?
How does traffic in the middle lane of a roundabout like this, EVER get the right-of-way to exit?
Drivers’ of London
What about checking the mirrors?
I curious to know where all this signalizing drivers on the uk roads?
Pure difference between the exam and the real road situation
near hendon there is a roundabouts with 4 exits...
you must signal throughout and always keep to left when exiting and not turning out across all the lanes. this world don't revolve like in this video as if your the only one living!!
Unless of course signs or road markings tell you differently.
Wish it was that simple at big UK roundabouts
❤❤
What's a "signal" asked the BMW dirver??
Dont need to signal left if youre in the left only land
Show more about round about U.K. lessons
what to do if we want to take u turn?
It is similar to how we drive in the US, except everything is on the right side.
Good effort, but why are you complicating the roundabout by positioning the red car at 9o'c position? You always enter the roundabout from 6o'c position. It makes it a lot easier for students to visualise. The way a student sees it, the red car isn't going straight ahead, its going right.
tough to remember all this . just franklin mode and turn however u want
Left lane = turn left and go straight.
Right lane = turn right and u-turn.
right lane = straight, right, and u-turn
Come to India someday bro and drive here 😅
