  • Cleanup begins tomorrow, but here's a look at the extensive tornado damage I received.
My property was severely beaten by storms.
We lost a lot of trees, and even had structures lost or damaged.
My insurance company has given me a fair settlement and it's time to clear out the damage and rebuild.
Thanks for watching, and stay safe!

Tha ks for sharing Alan... its so hard to go through this stuff... praying for you and y'all.
We lost our Garden when the winds of Hurricane Baryl came over us. One fence and a couple Cattle Panel arches... only thing left is 3 watermelons... we are still Praising God for all the animals, house, barn and all out pens that are fine or little damage.
    Blessings to y'all ❤

I’m not an arborist but our oak tree, which was over 2ft in diameter, lost a branch which almost split the tree in half. An arborist came out and recommended we remove it since it was close to our house but we waited 6 months and it was healing up. If it had been in our pasture we would have kept it.

This is Sally and there is a coating that you can buy and paint on the damaged area. I propagate a lot of fruit trees and I use the following: coat the entire area with cinnamon. Wait one day and then apply an exterior glue. Make sure you get the area where the bark and “tree wood” met. You don’t want water to enter the tree via that section.

      Lots of heavy machinery.
Going to strip the fence line completely, and build new fence there. Some of the fences will just be repaired, but most will have to be completely rebuilt.
I’ll have a video up on it next week I hope.

Alan, so sorry for the damage to your trees and fence. But you, your wife, your animals and your home are safe. Thankful for that. We'll be on the cleanup journey with you, in spirit anyway.
Looking at the driveway tree I have two thoughts. The first is damage to the circulatory system. If the area above the damage isn't getting water and nutrients it would show by now, just like if you bent a branch enough it would wilt and die back past that point. So if the branches above look healthy then the tree can still support them. If it was semi-girdled you'd see it by now.
The second is entry for disease or bugs. That's trickier but trees are meant to heal damage. We trim branches all the time, don't cover the wound and the rest of the tree is fine. It was hard to see how deep the wound goes but it looks like it's drying and healing over nicely.
Just had another thought-if it's very deep it may damage the structural integrity of the trunk and weaken it to wind damage. But trees grow such that they can lose big branches and be OK. They're kind of compartmentalized, if that makes sense. If every tree that lost a big branch died we'd have no trees. We have plenty of trees in my area with similar damage due to ice storms and the rest of the tree is fine. I've seen ones split down the middle and the remaining portion survives. I think there's hope.

Hurricanes when they pass over do similar damage on my property. Buy tornados can do more because the winds are usually faster.
Whenever you build anything, tie it together with metal strapping or hurricane clips.
If you want to keep that oak and not spend a lot, try and clean up the wound/damage and paint something that is meant to go on pruned areas of a tree. There is good chance that the tree survives. If not then you can take it down if it dies. If the tree is of great concern that you really want to keep, get a professional out there.

Your tree will live, ive had worse happen to some of my oak trees and they'll have a lil down time to recover from the trauma but then leaves start popping out. As long as the root system is intact and there is no disease it will bounce right back next year.

And our neighborhood lost well over a 100 large trees and in a 3 square mile area probably 250 trees down and we had a 100% power loss for our area , if you don't have a generator you are out luck and the Day after we did clean up in a 108 F Heat Index for 10 hours straight and at 65 years of age that's a Hard Day's work !

Glad y'all are okay! Oh boy, where to start! I just rode out the entire eastern eyewall of Beryl, north to south, 90+mph gusts for over 4 hours, and the majority of trees down were OAK. Most missed the home by only feet! Major, MAJOR BLESSING, and for you as well, with no home damage. The tear-jerker is your apple tree. Sigh. Pear tree too, but apples seem harder to grow. As for the pretty oak you ask about saving, DON'T! Too close to the fence! There are healing compounds out there, but IMO, not worth the risk. Oaks are beautiful trees, but almost as much as fruit trees, must be trimmed and managed. I see these homes with 50+ yr. old oaks just yards away and shake my head; I know where that tree is gonna end up. Smart decision taking down all the trees along your fence lines; might even think about expanding it a bit. I call it "fence falling distance". Lots of big holes from those trees uprooting. I'm looking forward to your videos on this. I'm more than a little familiar with the ironwood. Guess all you can do is drag that out with a tractor. Don't think it will burn either; haven't tried that, so don't know. Ain't farmin' fun! LOL! We were both blessed to have no damage to the roofs over our heads! THANK YOU, LORD!

Hey I am an ISA certified arborist so-11006a. The tree will most likely survive but would never recover. Trees compartmentalize their wounds and with such an extensive would the tree would now have a spot that will eventually decay and hollow. If It were my tree I would remove and plant something else in its place. Get a tree that you like and plant that tree. It will grow fast and you can train it for strength while young.
