    Really cool-looking game and some interesting ideas and seems like a lot of variety. There's a big demo of this game at my local shop this weekend, which I am planning to attend. Great video!

    Excellent review, Joel!! Been waiting to hear your thoughts on the game. I’m already 100% in myself. I’ve seen some initial other reviews weeks ago (from this point) and it wasn’t until I actually tried a Demo game at a store and so that was the moment I decided “This game’s for me” I’ve always liked smaller Skirmish style battles, loved the new AoS Skirmish but it carried some of the same problems regular AoS has. I.E. to hit mechanic, too many rules/spells/command abilities..... it gets to be a bit much! Regular AoS has grown arms and legs as well I just can’t keep up with!!
    Warcry simplifies all of that, providing quick and easy super fun battles that I can actually fit in to my busy adult life!!

    Been waiting for this video! Finishing up building (just 6 more chaos beasts to go) and priming this week and hopefully painting and playing this weekend. Very hyped for this game. I went all-in with Kill Team and while I enjoy it and want to play more, there's a lot going on with list building and rules. Not super easy to teach or remember rules for. I feel like WarCry will be the perfect game to build a few warbands and teach a friend quickly and get some games in.

    Saw a demo of this at Essen today and my 9 year old son was really taken by this game. So I guess we are getting into war gaming now :) it is actually very well done for beginners.

    I got the battle card pack with the victory conditions, twists and deployment. Also got the same terrain set you showed off towards the end. Hoping to try it soon as see if it catches on in my group. Worse case I got some very nice terrain and did not spend a lot on the cards. Most of the unit /warband stuff has also been spoiled on the web and will probably be in some apps soon...so really no reason not to try this out if you have some AoS stuff.

    I was holding this in my game store on release day but decided to wait. I think I should have just bought it. I have a Stormcast and Nighthaunt army already and I think this could be the perfect way to get some of my non-Warhammer savvy friends into playing. Everything about this seems great.

    Joel, would you recommend WarCry or Warhammer Underworlds as a newbie skirmish-gamer starting point? Is Underworlds a gateway into WarCry or are they both starting points?

    • @DriveThruReview
      @DriveThruReview  Před 4 lety +2

      Probably Underworlds first. You can use some of the models in Warcry if you want to move into it. I prefer Warcry overall though personally.

    I'm late to this video, but if you're looking here still, have you listened to So Very Wrong About Game's analysis of Warcry? If yes, what would be your response?

    • @DriveThruReview
      @DriveThruReview  Před 5 lety

      Skimmed. Disagree. It's not a scrum unless you make it so. Some missions will lend themselves to that for sure. But others spread things out. But use a faction with some range and that goes right out the window. Or use a faction that can have many screening units. You can play a huge variety setups... etc.. /shrug

    • @mikolajwitkowski8093
      @mikolajwitkowski8093 Před 5 lety

      @@DriveThruReview Thanks very much! The scrum comment was on my mind as I already have too many games that are primarily that... so, good to hear it's not so. :)

    Thanks for the review! Was looking forward to it. How would you compare it to aos.. i mean as a game that give you personal experiences.. since aos was your top title recently? ^.^ would warcry be in your top 10..and beat aos?! xD just curious.. since i got into frostgrave (and now warcry) bc of your top title clip =)

    • @DriveThruReview
      @DriveThruReview  Před 4 lety +2

      I would say as far as the "experience" side... it's close... to AoS and Frostgrave. AoS and Frostgrave still have a good chunk more going on to keep me invested and constantly thinking about the game even when I'm not playing it. This is just the initial blush of Warcry though. I think in a year or two, with an expansion it may climb up that high for me. It's MUCH easier to just pick up and play though.

    The GW line and almost Venn diagram of systems they have now can be overwhelming. Question for you Joel, why not the new Necromunda?

    • @DriveThruReview
      @DriveThruReview  Před 5 lety

      I love Necromunda. And Kill Team. I'm a bit of a junkie for skirmish games to be honest. Necromunda is A LOT to take in and grok and crunch through though. At this point, it's more RPG than mini skirmish game, but I love it for that.

    • @koomo801
      @koomo801 Před 5 lety

      @@DriveThruReview I look forward to a review from you on the new Kill Team set (although maybe it'll be too similar to the previous set that you won't have a reason to post anything). The terrain it offers is obviously meant to cross over into Necromunda. Going to be tough to resist.

    Although I (aka. my wallet) prefer Kill Team - I am hoping that GW adds those awsome card decks to KT also! Its such a neat idea a and speeds up setup a lot = no more looking for a mission in 4 books!

  • @phillipmartinez2436
    @phillipmartinez2436 Před 4 lety

    I am on the fence on this game. I want it and love the models but at the same time, every box I have seen says it only comes with the terrain, cards, tokens and has no mention of figures.

    • @DriveThruReview
      @DriveThruReview  Před 4 lety +1

      The box reviewed here of course comes with everything. You might be seeing terrain packs. There are also separate packs for the different warbands. Which is actually a great option. If you don't like the terrain or factions in this starter, you could buy a separate terrain pack with the faction you like separately as well.

    Shadespire, Necromunda, Kill Team, this and I know I am missing at least one other squad based game that all fall into this same bucket. That's only counting GW games. I wonder how long these can keep releasing and still be supported.

    • @DriveThruReview
      @DriveThruReview  Před 5 lety

      That's a good question. I think all of them. Most people I know who are into these games are only into one of them.

    • @Tombonzo
      @Tombonzo Před 5 lety +1

      Eric Finely - I’ve heard that Warcry will be supported for at least 2 years. This could include White Dwarf, new Warbands, new Card packs, new Terrain packs, maybe I’m thinking a new card pack for playing games as well? This is all my speculation, but still I heard supporting game for 2 years. I think 2+ Tough May have mentioned that?!

    Good thing it doesn't have a solo mode or I'd go broke buying absolutely everything for it!! 😆

    • @shaneannigans
      @shaneannigans Před 5 lety +1

      @@bumblescrump5752 You must not live in Australia! 😆
      The core box is over $250AUD!! That's over £140, €153 or $170 US dollars
      Compared to the price of terrain I can get from Mantic, GF9, 4Ground and tonnes of others, the value isn't that great at all.
      Still, looks good but without a solo mode I can't justify the cost.
