    As I recall, it was originally supposed to just be Waspinator and Scorponok who died. But when they decided to spare Waspinator, they still had to kill off someone in his place (again, budget issues). They settled on Terrorsaur because his role in the series, being the Starscream of the Predacons, had been taken over by Tarantulas at that point, who fans found to be a more interesting character. So Terrorsaur was deemed unnecessary, and killed off in Waspinator's place.

    • @strikerevimus
      @strikerevimus Před 2 lety +12

      Adding to that, the writers chose to make Terrorsaur and Scorponok glow in the same way the other characters who became Transmetals glowed. This was done to keep the door open to a possible return for the pair, though it never happened, it's still interesting to note.

    Beast Wars was actually considered high budget for a kids show at the time. It was pretty expensive. It's jus that the technology they were using was so new and high tech at the time that the budget was just stretched fully. So, yeah, it just wasn't cheap to make. It was groundbreaking.

  • @MoCa1979Jr

    Too bad they switched to "Beast Machines", because Beast Wars had a lot of lore to explore. I get the whole "lone wolf" thing, but I'm actually glad Tigatron was "big cat" to Cheetor (which made for an interesting dynamic).

    • @gannondollins

      @@gannondollins Indeed. It essentially got rid of all the "diverse" villains & replaced them w/ "mindless drones". Plus they kinda ruined some of the characterization. Like: Primal changed from a capable leader into "a space case". Or there not being any clever & character-building interactions, like Rattrap & Dinobot had, or even something as mundane as Cheetor calling Tigatron "big cat". Even Megatron's megalomania was amped up, in an unlikable way. It went from a pretty even war between 2 factions into an Empire vs a handful of rebels type of dynamic; & it wasn't handled very well.

      @@seanclapper9965 While the Maximals initially being as confused as us (the audience) seemed like clever writing, I don't think it really was. It came off more like the writers were making up the story as they went along.
      The whole reveal about Cybertron's "true origin" wasn't really that surprising at all. Even in the context of the show, it was hinted at pretty heavily (including their new forms).
      Botanica was a clever new type of character, but it was all for naught, because they didn't really do much w/ her (kinda like Transmutate).
      Even now that I'm older, I still wished they would've either done more w/ the story, or at least showed how Megatron took over Cybertron & reformatted everyone.

    @zacharyzwickl5860 Před 2 lety +24

    Here's something that relates to the main reason why Beast Wars had such a small budget and number 9. As you mentioned they made animation models that were toy accurate models, but on after seeing the end results Mainframe Entertainment in their own professional opinion thought they were not that great looking. So they spent time and budget to make new animation models that looked similar to their toy counterparts but looked more better for a show. So in short a good amount of the budget was used to making the starting cast twice. Which also explains why the backgrounds seemed more barren in season 1. And from what I understand in season 2 they tried to make up for the budget cuts in the backgrounds which is why only some characters were given trans metal forms and only added two Fuzors to the cast.

    In a strange way, I could see how the Beast Wars explains how the G1 Comic and Cartoon both exist. Maybe the Comic was the true 1st incarnation of the Transformers, and it ends with a dead Earth and Cybertronians evolving into Maximals and Predacons. When the Vok improved the planet to make it better, the G1 Cartoon showcased the changes in the timeline, best shown in his average humans had a far easier time fighting the Decepticons. Spike, Sparkplug, Carley, Chase, Raul, and countless other humans became able to hold their own much easier than anyone not named Buster, Spike, or Circut-Breaker could in Marvel.

    One thing I found interesting about Cheetor in Season 1 is he would most often use his Quasar blaster (aka "gut gun") as his signature weapon - until "Fallen Comrades" brought Tigatron into the show.
    After Tigatron was introduced Cheetor would use his other weapon, the less-often seen Quasar rifle (or "tail gun,") more frequently - especially if Big Cat and Little Cat were seen together in a scene.
    Carrying different weapons helped visually differentiate the two characters, making one look a little less like a redeco of the other.

      I don't think so, toy production and show making worked pretty much independently from one another, with the toys being made before the show was. The showmakers put Tigerhawk in the show at Hasbro's request because it was an expensive toy they wanted to promote, and that toy was being designed when season 2 was being aired. Silverbolt was being made when the 1st season was showcased, and ended up in the second season to promote the furors toy line. They definitely made Tigerhawk as an amalgamation of Tigatron and Airazor because of their fate in the show, but I don't think Silverbolt was supposed to have any relationship with either Wolfang or Airazor.

    • @brotquel1592
      @brotquel1592 Před 2 lety

      @@ShockUzer No, I mean, IF Wolfang was intended to be in the show instead of Tigatron, maybe, at the beginning, it was intended to not exist any Tigerhawk and have their plot resolve in the creation of Silverbolt as a "fusion" of the two.
      What I was hinting at is that Netflix was doing something clever (for once) and hinted at the relationship between Blackarachnia and Silverbolt by havin her kissing Airazor, the colest thing to him in the show.

    • @ShockUzer
      @ShockUzer Před 2 lety

      @@brotquel1592 It's hard to know what would've happened if the things went in a different direction, but I don't think that would have happened (Silverbolt is part eagle, not falcon anyways), maybe the toy makers would've made Silverbolt part other animal instead of a wolf or they would've chosen other fuzor for the show instead (the show writers said Hasbro dictated which toys they had to put in the show). And no, Tigerhawk wasn't planned from the very beginning, but that could be said about many other things: Dinobot II, Megatron's dragon mode, Optimal Optimus, etc.

    My absolute favorite part of Beast Wars is that BW Megatron is NOT the original Megatron from Transformers. Nothing beats the concept of an overly-dramatic, ambitious evil genius taking the name "Megatron" as an homage to the baddest Larry himself; whose self-righteousness stems from his worship and adoration of real Megatron; and whose greatest character foil lies in the fact that he is not, in reality, the Megatron he wishes he was. Optimus Primal's mirror to this character quirk is far more subtle and less overplayed, which creates a nice irony in the events that lead him to taking on G1 Optimus's spark to save it from Megatron's wrath. Optimus becoming more "Optimus" than Megatron could ever be "Megatron" is a fitting capstone to their character arcs.

    Finally watched, and wow! I consider myself a huge BW fan (it’s tied with ReBoot for my favorite show of all time), but you still managed to surprise me with stuff I never knew! A couple of curiosities:
    1) I always thought “Tripledacus” was just one of those weird, Japanese-English things, where the “l” should be an “r,” for “Tripredacus,” but nope!
    2) I always thought the stated reason that Earth wasn’t openly discussed or mentioned was because the Maximal Council classified all information regarding its location and how to publicly get in touch with it. Obviously, the Transformers know ABOUT it and its people, but no one has had contact since the Council came into power (which they likely would have done to protect it from involvement in another Great War, or to prevent power hungry villains from seeking to conquer it again). Honestly, I thought that was canon, or at least mentioned in some official publication or whatever, but I certainly could be wrong!
    3) isn’t “Megatron” something the BW Megs just chooses to call himself, as opposed to his birth name?
    In any case, I always kind of liked the idea that these legendary names get passed down, regardless of connotation.

I even got the toy when I was young kid but seeing how a bat is the size and was more of a ninja type it didn't felt with Optimus Prime's characteristics. I still have both of the figures though.

    We did get one other mythical creature in Beast Wars. Silverbolt's alt mode is based on Q'ursha (or Kursha) from Georgian mythology.

    Well, I learned nothing new in this video, so I guess I'm much more of a hardcore Beast Wars fan than I thought if these are considered obscure facts. XD;; (Thank you TFWiki for making me think they weren't.) Still, it's nice to have a video where more of these facts and tidbits are condensed into one place. So, I say keep this as a format, more facts that are not widely known. I'm sure Beast Wars has more than enough obscure facts to make at least two more videos, and then there's G1, RID 1.0, Unicron Trilogy, and so on. Then there's other franchises you could expand upon with this video format, like Power Rangers and Reboot to give a couple of examples.

    Oh yeah, I always thought then Trantulous (i can't spell) was referred to as the "spawn of unicron" I thought it had a much deeper meaning, but then on one of the forums it was said to just be an insult, which honestly doesn't really make much sense to me, but oh well. I think that concept thought would have been fascinating to explore.

    I had heard about the scrapping of Wolfang being in the show and he was one of my favorites though a long way back i lost his tail, still have his clone of K-Nine i think it was or something like that. A lot of my Beast Wars Transformers are in decent condition still, trying to locate them all after moving out of our old house last year. Still have my Megatron alligator version but i lost my Optimus bat, never got the ape and T-Rex but have the transmetal versions though my nephew broke my Megatron accidentally. If i could afford to get them i would hunt for other transformers from Beast Wars.

    Well, if you want you can look at Silverbolt as a mythical animal. He's technically a gryphon, just a wolf instead of a lion.

    Hi, TJ!
    10. Doing a BW rewatch right now with some friends, one of whom is watching the show for the first time. This week we are doing Bad Spark. Thanks for the reminder of what Dinobot was doing, now I know how to explain that to her.
    9. Glad we got what we got with the heads we got.
    8. Didn't know that, or a completely forgot. So glad they kept Waspy around.
    7. I prefer Tigatron to be honest. Also, would we have gotten Silverbolt who also had a wolf form if Wolf Fang already existed?
    6. I remember that story. Still doesn't stop that death from being one of the best in all TV. In two weeks I'll get to see how a first time viewer reacts as well.
    5. I love the more unique colors too. In addition, I love how TM Tarantulus takes traditional comic book bad guy colors to the Nth degree.
    4. So glad they made that change. Yesssss. Because they sounded and acted nothing like the originals, no. In a lot of ways, Megs and Op not being the originals is one of the major things that convinced me to watch the show in the first place and let me know they had some respect for what came before instead of thinking the audience was stupid and expect them to just accept characters who were nothing like to originals as the originals. The smart decision to not make them the originals gave David and Gary a chance to make them their own and now BW Megs and OP are legends in their own right!
    3. Interesting, didn't know that. Would have enjoyed that manticore. This is why I love Battle Unicorn. Definitely would have loved some more mythological beast modes.
    2. &1. Trying to explain the Vok to a new viewer has been...confusing. And I haven't even tried to explain The Swarm part. Forgot about it to be honest. I hope the new BW comic tries to do something with the Vok. (Maybe they already have, I wait for the trades.)

      But it would end up like changing timeline to get rid of problem ending up causing another one: fact that they couldn't fit so much characters meant we got more focus on these which we had, so the good character-driven story is result of not putting in every character from toyline, also BWII anyway used primarily repaints, so it would have hard time if everyone was used.
