    Okay, I have to bring this up, because it blew my mind.
    In Mumbattan, Miles immediately gives distinct orders to the three other Spiders applicable to their skills. He sends Hobie and Gwen to slow down the building because they are the most experienced and powerful heroes there. Miles and Pav clear the civilians because Pav knows the city better than anyone and Miles' free-running skills work better with the tight, narrow buildings than web-swinging.
    And here is the part that blew my mind;
    This is a *direct* contrast to how *bad* of a leader Miguel is. He gives one general order to every Spider in the Society which results in them not even knowing who to go after, clawing over each other and getting in their own way.

    • @ghostslayer1981
      @ghostslayer1981 Před 5 měsíci +346

      Which, you gotta admit, is impressive on its own. Miles JUST met Hobie and Pavtir, yet he can get them to coordinate and safely rescue literally everyone. Hell, the only possible casualty if Miles hadn't been raised right and listened to Gwen when she stopped him would've been Chief Singe. Meanwhile, Miguels been running the Spider Society for who knows how long now? Ever since the initial collider? Thats been a little over a YEAR. AND HE STILL CAN'T GET A PROPER TEAM. The only time he probably gets it together is when he drops the society as a whole and sticks with Jess and Ben Riley. And even Ben got taken down by Gwen, no issue, leaving just Jess and him. He didn’teven take account Miles previous allies, Penni, Noir, Spiderham, and newest recruits Hobie and Pav. Despite Miguel saying Miles was a mistake, i choose to believe this is Miles story. This is hos canon event: being the new Spiderman and leading the team.

      Hobie being the one out of all the Spider-People to side with Miles really struck out to me for two reasons.
      1) While the other Spider-People like Peter and Gwen served as more of a judging-enforcing type of superhero, Hobie’s more of the rebellious hero that empowers people to lead than calling himself a leader.
      2) The original Hobie Brown started off as kind of a loser that was unsure of what he wanted to do and how to stand up for himself, and having his developed self guide somebody in a similar situation like Miles was perfect for the story.

      it is true that across the spiderverse might have too much comedy, but to say that the story was 'predictable' is a bit absurd (unless you knew the plot like me before watching it)
      also, i would argue that the points you made about the film not being perfect for animators and musicians is incorrect in this instance; both films have very good soundtracks, primarly BECAUSE they are supported by Pemberton, arguably the spiderverse's creator of its sound quality and recognisable nature
      and as for the animators, ATSV is just so much more bombastic and impressive; there were way more environments explored, way more wacky characters worked with (the spot, miguel, HOBIE FREAKING BROWN)

A BLACK HOLE Opened up under Mumbattan. Chris Pine's version of Peter Parker says that during his fight with Green Goblin and Kingpin and Prowler. He warns them that if they use the collider it could open up a black hole underneath Brooklyn. THAT is what's happening to Pavitr, but Miguel is, like most of the audience for most of the movie, underestimating the Spot. He's too focused on Miles. He and the other Spideys aren't paying attention to the Spot and the damage he's doing. EVEN AS HE IS DOING IT. Spot is a massive threat and they're STILL underestimating him. It's a big thing and it's crazy to think about it.

      Exactly! Thanks for pointing it out, I've spent so much time wondering why nobody ever mentions how the collider plays into the destruction of dimensions, even when they are talking about Miguel being wrong. I'm super curious on how the third movie will explain how Miguels fake-life dimension fell apart, since it wasnt a disruption of a canon event (Miles asked him what happens if you break canon, and Miguels response was "Do you wanna find out?" which means he doesnt know either), and how Miguel came to think canon events existed in such a thing as the Multiverse, where literally every version of reality exists. He's obviously trying to make sense of his trauma, and chooses spiderpeople with similiar stories. It's simple confirmation bias at this point (spiderperson shares this event with other spiderperson, when event happens, universe stays intact), but how did it start out?

Like how the lobby of the Spider Society is set up, but especially the scene with Miles and Gwen sitting upside down on that building. It's a moment they can share only because they're both Spider-people.
    It's also adds another layer to Gwen's "get over here" moment with her dad. Not only is it a show of affection, by pulling him over with the webs she's loving him in a way that *only Spider-Woman can do.* The first thing she does after he accepts her entirely is to love him with her entire self.

He was protesting doing human experiments trying to replicate the original golden age Spider-Man and those types of powers, and they got a convict to undergo the testing, despite not being ready for human trials. After it went very, very wrong, Miguel tries to quit Alchemax, but his boss drugged his wine with a drug that permanently bonds to a person's DNA, and since the company he's trying to quit is the only supplier of said drug, he has to stay with them, or go through horrific withdrawal and die. So he chooses the third option of replacing a tiny bit of his DNA with spider DNA, in hopes of getting rid of the drug before it permanently bonds to his DNA. A jealous Co-worker sabotages him, and makes him 50% spider instead.

    A small detail that I love is that Prowler-Miles' accent is hispanic: we don't get our accents from our parents, but from our peers. The fact that P-Miles speaks with a hispanic accent, rather than the same one Spidey-Miles uses, means that his social circle is most likely confined to Rio. This further implies that he's not all that close with Uncle Aaron, who seems to take care of the Morales family, but, based off of Rio's interaction with him, seems to still command some fearful respect (as opposed to unconditional support / true family vibes). So, on Earth-42, P-Miles is this loner kid, who lost his father, hangs out primarily with his mother, and maybe does the occasional odd-job with/for his uncle. And now enter S-Miles, maybe a lil awkward, but defo extroverted enough to befriend P-Miles, after he breaks down his walls of distrust.

The second scene would just undercut the ending - the solid ten minutes at the end dedicated to amping up a high-energy, edge-of-the-seat cliffhanger would just be undermined by ending it on a slower, more ominous sequence. That extra gravity isn't really necessary and would act as pebbles in the shoe of the already exceptionally tight pacing.

    The speech from Miles' Mom was in the trailer and I go to the movies all the time but even watching the trailer, I would break down into tears, because not only is Miles rare among Spider-folk for having both of his parents alive and well and supportive, it really hits home for me. My parents loved me for 18 years... and then they didn't. They left me alone, in the cold and dark, to die.
    No one looks out for me but me, and he has such a blessing with his parents and the story is also about how such blessings can be taken away. These movies take the superficial nature of most superhero flicks and burn it to ash... and a colorful pheonix rises, reminding us of what heroes truly mean to us...

    I’m pretty sure Gwen’s monologue is meant to be interpreted as being spoken at the end of the movie, when she’s pitching her plan to the Spider-Recruits (Spider-Ham, Peni Parker, Spider-Byte etc). That’s why she keeps talking at the end of the movie, and ends it with “You want in?” If you look at the opening monologue like this, it reframes the beginning and makes a lotta more sense.

    I am surprised you didn't point out that Pavitr's girlfriend and police captain both got saved because he essentially had "two cakes" as in another spider-man to help him.
    I kind of like the theory that what destroyed Miguel's universe wasn't breaking cannon events, but an incursion as described in the MCU as multiple copies of the same person existing in the same universe for too long (perhaps that universes' original Miguel was secretly alive the whole time). It would mean that Miguel is tragically doubling down on his mistake by gathering so many Peter Parkers into one place rather than fixing his mistake like he thinks he is. And the Spider-Hub, which he created to be the tool to fix the multiverse, is instead a ticking time bomb.

      Personally I was at first justifying it as-dead!Miggy's Gabriella was supposed to be motivated to become Spider-Woman by that incident, then later got involved in Avengers-level time travel shenanigans to change the past; Miguel takes his own place, that Gabriella never becomes Spider-Woman 21something, the past isn't saved, that future gets undone.
      More recently I figure-in the ItSV post-credits scene, about a year ago, Miguel's original goober is noted as the FIRST autonomous multiversal travel. So possibly it's a hardware issue he's unaware of; whatever radiation/field/energy it uses to prevent glitching is downright hazardous in a foreign universe. So Nueva York is fine, because the Watches themselves are all 'native' to that universe, but too many Spider-Men showing up in foreign universes at the same time? And you know that the Spiders considered their juniors not losing their Gwen Stacys or Uncle Bens or Captains was an 'all hands on deck' situation, while Anomalies look to only get followed by one or two Spiders at a time. So every time a hundred Spiders descended to save a Ben, Gwen, or Captain that universe developed a big ol' quantum black hole, Miguel noted that these events in some form were happening everywhere, and assumed that meant they were structural somehow. So he said stop interfering, took the quantum holes not appearing as 'evidence', did a lot of investigation for other events that 'always' happened and added them to the list, and then forbade everyone from preventing those incidents.
      Basically, the problem is that Miguel is ascribing far more value to a common pattern than he should when it should have occured to him that the wristwatches capable of blowing pinholes in reality and holding off a universe's "immune response" to outsiders might have side effects. Well, in the comics he is a geneticist, not a physicist...
      Or I could just favor that theory because it means a thousand genius Parkers can descend on Miguel's work to fix the problem, and we get a happy ending without having to figure out what actually is causing universes to collapse. Because even if Canon is wrong, and I really doubt Beyond is going to end with Miles letting his dad die and accepting fate or watching his universe fall apart, that doesn't change that SOMETHING collapsed at least one universe.

    This movie does a great job of showing solidarity within communities & learning what a real ally looks like. Hobie & Spider-Byte only had short interactions with Miles yet choose to help him when the literal spider world is against him. Peter & Gwen know Miles yet were convinced to abandon AND attack him. For me it speaks to how even if people say they are allies at times it is conditional. Even though Gwen questioned Miguel she wasn't willing to fully stand up for Miles until she was isolated as well. While Peter's guilt becomes too much & he seeks to redeem himself. I believe this movie is just as much about Gwen as it is about Miles. It is important to note that while part of Gwen's journey is her "coming out" & accepting herself it is also about her learning about what a true ally & friend looks like at the most critical of times.

Rio and Aaron know he's not their Miles, commenting on his hair being different, but even Aaron allows Miles to give him a hug, unknowingly reminding Miles of who he lost and why he needs to keep fighting.
    Sure, Aaron doesn't know what he has given this alternate Miles and he will be leading him back to Prowler Miles to enact their nefarious amd nebulous shenanigans onto him, but I still find beauty in that little moment where Miles can just melt back into a hug with Aaron, however short lived that comfort may be.

      Since they had announced it years ago, and I was keeping up, I knew that it would end on a cliffhanger. But I was so scared it would end up feeling half-baked, like it ended abruptly. But nope. The ending kept building up and up, and stopped at the PERFECT moment. This movie was PERFECT.

    Not that ya miss much Mr. Lee (and you'll enjoy this as a Dad), but it was a pretty powerful moment when the Captain finds Gwen in the rubble for the fact that she got to see what her Dad looked like when he didn't recognize her; even as a superhero that can throw a friggin' shipping container in frustration, seeing her Dad treat her like not only a stranger but as a threat wasn't only disarming for her but scary, seeing her Dad, a full-grown man, in full swing mode pressured even Spider-Woman into putting her hands up. You can even see her body language switch to completely submissive when she realizes she needs to show him her face to have even the smallest amount of control in the situation.

    Probably my favorite part of the movie is Rio's speech to Miles before letting him go chase Gwen. Everything she says basically lays out the plot for the rest of the film: "Don't let the people in those big fancy places tell you you don't belong there" referring to the Spider Society, and she even ends it with "Just don't get lost", which is exactly what he does.

      That kind of sidesteps the question of whether it's better to take Miguel's known, imperfect solution or Miles's option to risk everything for a perfect solution. If it turns out Miles was never really being asked that question in the first place, I guess he technically gets a happy ending, but a really unsatisfying one. It also doesn't answer the question for any of the other Spider-Folks. Might as well have him wake up and find the whole thing was just a dream.

    • @kaisoep
      @kaisoep Před 6 měsíci +2

      @@totokekedile well then I hope they clear that up bc it seems like a bit of a plothole to me :-) like if miles was never supposed to be spiderman, why would he have the same canon as the real spiders? And also, wouldn't that make everything that happened after he was bit also an anomaly? His uncle dying, Spot being created etc. Also why is Miles saving the captain in Mumbattan the thing that makes that universe collapse? If the spider hadn't bitten Miles, Spot wouldn't have existed and then the captain would never have been in danger. So that moment couldn't have been the canon, because it was brought on by an anomaly. Meaning that the captain was supposed to die another moment, so Miles saving him shouldn't have disturbed the canon.

    I tried to keep away from as many spoilers as possible, which yeah didn't fully happen, until I watched the movie today, but goodness was I still blown away despite knowing more than I wanted to. Seeing such a confusion jumble of universes be strung together in what really is a movie with a pretty simple plot is so awesome. And that's one thing I really love too, the actual events that take place are pretty simple for the most part, but there's _tons_ of exposition behind it, and yet that doesn't drag the movie back. The exposition is mixed into every sequence, like you said the movie does an amazing job at doing multiple things at once. The simple plot is key to that, because when you're dealing with an entire multiverse, you have to keep things limited so the viewer isn't overwhelmed, while still exploring the gosh dang multiverse. This movie walks that line perfectly and goodness I absolutely adore it for that, making every single detail interesting, and I love how they doubled down on the differences in artstyle for every universe. Visually there wasn't a single point in this movie I wasn't blown away by.

For me she was the stand in character and the best one of the film, she isnt always the hero, for a while she plays an antagonistic role and thats fantastic

Peter B saying "you're the reason I had her, I thought there was a chance she could turn out as great of a person as you" and generally praising Miles a lot, then Miles turning around and asking "then why didn't you come visit me" really hit me hard when I watched it. It felt like a great look into how the mentor/newbie spidey dynamic is beginning to dissolve once Miles learns that his mentor basically betrayed him as much as Gwen and the other spider people did, if not more because of the implicit trust formed in the first movie.

What a fool I was...
