    I have watched several of your videos in an attempt to bring a 2010 Macbook Pro back to life (with a lightweight Linux distro installed) and have been successful with the help of your careful, thorough, detailed instruction. I made a few mistakes along the way, but rewatching your videos always got me back on track! So thank you!

    Thank you so much my friend.I upgraded HDD to SSD and i cleaned MacBookPro.I changed the thermal paste.You are very good for this operation

    Hey ! Awesome video ! All steps are very clear ! Nothing is left unexplained, I was scared to open my GF's MacBook Pro but I just finished everything and it reboot without any issues !!! The thermal paste was rock solid in there ! I had some good one from my build a few month ago. We can feel the heat being pushed out again, I guess the CPU was throtteling permanently for years. Now it feels like a good overclock :D thanks.

    Thank you for this very good video. My MID 2010 MacBook Pro got very often very hot the last time and then the CPU speed was reduced extremely so that it often was not usable for several seconds (up to sometimes about 30secs).
    Now after I cleaned not only the fan and the upper side but did this operation with changing the thermal paste and cleaning everything under the board it is like having a new MacBook Pro ;-)
    The CPU temperature still gets high up to 95°C when e.g. watching fullscreen highres youtube videos (Firefox and Flashplayer ;-( ) but the CPU can be cooled better and hold to this level without reducing CPU speed. For my Core 2 Duo max. CPU Temp. is 105°C. So everything is fine.
    The Mac has first priority to be quiet I think. I checked the temperatur and fan speed behavior of the Mac with "Macs Fan Control" App before and after the opration. You can clearly see, that MacOS tries to keep the MacBook maximum quiet. This is ok als long as the ability of the heatsink to transport the heat is like it should be. Then the fan speed logic works fine. My 6 year old thermal paste was dry and now with new thermal paste und everything cleaned the fan speed logic corresponds again to the ability to transport the heat out of the MacBook Pro. Now, when the CPU Temp. goes against 95°C the fan speed gets high but only for short time and the CPU speed is not reduced.
    So I can work with my beloved MacBook Pro MID 2010 for another 6 years and don't need to get one of the overpriced 2016 MacBooks with TouchBar, way to big TouchPad and very loud Keyboard. ;-)

    why do you need to remove the speaker and microphone? They seem to be separate from and to the side of the heatsink.

    • @GRIBSOFT
      @GRIBSOFT  Před 6 lety +4

      You are correct, you do not have to remove the speaker and mic. This was a video series and the removal and installation of the speaker and mic didn't get cut in the production.

      Thank you for confirming. I want to redo my thermal paste and the fewer things I need to mess with mean less potential of me breaking something or incorrectly removing/reinstalling a part.

      Could be a component that is coming apart. If you did all those steps and it still overheats, the best bet is to replace it.

    Am I looking right, or does the 13" MacBook Pro only have one speaker? I knew the speakers on the pre-retina models were bad but I didn't think they were THAT awful.

    • @GRIBSOFT

      It has two, one is under the sperdrive and just has a cable going to the logicboard so it's easy to miss.

    the material of the heatsink is copper and aluminium? because i'm thinking to buy liquid metal by grizzly and i know that could "eat" the aluminium

    will this eliminate over-heating problems?

    • @GRIBSOFT
      @GRIBSOFT  Před 8 lety

      +spacepod100 Good question, it depends... Pulling out the logic board and cleaning all the dust off the "fan" and "heat sink" and replacing the thermal paste on the heat sink might be a good start, this can fix many units but it all depends on your particular problem. Cleaning out dust will cost you some time and $0. I would give it a shot. Does your unit randomly shut off? Give me some details.

      Hi I have some overheating problems myself. I cleaned it & applied a small amount of Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Paste. Also changed the battery and upgraded my ram from 4 to 8 gb. Anyways, my Macbook now runs much hotter than before because of the cpu diode, It starts around 51-55 degrees Celcious and under heavy load it goes around 87-90C. Then the fans start to kick in, around 3000-4000 rpm and the temperature drops down at 86-88C still during heavy load(rendering on premiere pro). Otherwise it would go higher that 90C. On the other hand the Gpu starts 47C and goes up to 74C, which looks much more normal to me. Do you think buying a new heatsink would solve the problem? The one i have now has some minor-very light scratches where the cpu attaches, + a very light fingerprint for some reason. Do you think this is the reason it performs so hot? The bottom case can get very hot. Even from watching 720p-1080p downloaded videos the temp goes up to 70C at some point. I also touched the heatsink while it said it was around 60C and it was way to hot to touch. Some help would be appreciated.

      @GRIBSOFT  Před 8 lety +3

      It's hard too say. The best advice I can give you is to make sure the heatsink is not bent when you take out the board, then clean the entire board with an alcohol dipped toothbrush to make sure there are no dirt or dust on any component, this can influence the temp sensors. Also, make sure not to put too much or too little thermal paste when reassembling everything. Make sure there is no thermal compound around the actual CPU and GPU dies, thermal paste transfers heat and is designed to be only on the die as a median and not on the components around it. Another note, Apple laptops are designed to sit and operate on a clean flat surface, if on your lap or on an uneven surface the fans will kick in. Beyond that, not too much else can be done besides replacing the logic board. Make sure to take a vacuum to the heatsink, as dust builds up in the vent compartment.
      If you are going through the trouble of taking out the board, might as well order another heatsink, they are less the $10.

      I have had units where a heatsink looks fine but in fact was cracked where it could not be seen and was not transferring heat properly.

    My screen flashes and goes completely dark if I put the bottom plate screws in. Has anyone else encountered this? I did this a CPU repaste (got excellent thermals at least), so all went well just can't put the bottom screws in or the screen dies. Thanks

      @@davidmachado9466 hey, in the end I just had to disassemble the whole thing and put it back together, works fine now. I suspect it was the microphone wire had found itself a top one of where the motherboard (logicboard) screws go, just on the edge slightly suspending the board. I think that's why when the base screws were tightened they shorted the display connection (putting pressure on the logic board). A rookie mistake, was my 1st disassembly. Thankfully all been working fine for a week now😁😁. And was running 60 degrees at idle now 40, soooo worth it. Also worth noting I wouldn't of risked doing it if I hadn't just got a new laptop. That's the ultimate goal, the MSI GS65 runs very hot but brrrrrr, risk killing 2k worth of kit makes me sick!! Haha we'll see. Sorry to get off topic, hope this helps 😊

      @@davidmachado9466 no problem man, I'm sure it'll go fine!! If I can do it after a week of watching CZcams videos you'll be fine😉
      P.S you will probably know but another cause I've read for the issue is not sufficiently tightening your help screws, (I'd imagine the same goes for going too loose too😋)... This was not my issue though, only thing I changed was that microphone wire issue. It's hard to get the logicboard in, all ribbon cables out of the way and sort that microphone wire out all at once!😹 Employ someone with miniature hands is my advice!
