Hi! Every year, nerdfighters who can donate more than $500 to the Project for Awesome come together to form a matching fund so that donors during the p4a can see their impact doubled. If you're able to donate to the matching fund, please join us: projectforawesome.com/matching We can take tax-deductible donations by paypal, credit card, foundation grant, check, or more. Thanks. Can't wait for the p4a wonder beginning Feb. 17th at noon eastern. -John
I donate $50 a month over the course a year. Is that $600 better when it’s allocated monthly or would a lump sum in the matching fund have more usefulness?
@@wgeorgecook That's a great question. I imagine consistent income is quite useful, but also the matching fund boosts the momentum of an event which can get more donors on board to reach the higher target. I too currently donate monthly and would love to know how these two options compare. =)
This all coming from the brother who once tried to hit Hank with a hammer, according to their mother.
@@cogspace I think consistent income isn’t massively important for the P4A, because they not have overhead costs (no one that the FTDWS gets paid), and the payments to charities are made once a year. In previous years they cut off the amount ‘in the bank’ right before the P4A starts, and count that amount towards that years P4A, so it is a nice way to start the P4A. But as you said, the matching fund is always a great incentive for people to donate. Regardless, I’m sure the P4A appreciate whatever way you donate.
P4A money DOES NOT go to the Sierra Leone maternal healthcare project (at least not substantially/directly). You didn't specify what you were donating to each month, but if it's directly to the SL project then that would be a significant difference.

I came to the comments to say this exactly

I love that John needed to check Wikipedia to remember the one of Hanks jobs that he's literally part of
Right. I wanted to say the same. 😅
ok the real question is does Hank Green need to check Wikipedia to figure out what he's doing???
@@elaineshiffer6929 I'd say probably xD

Exactly what I was thinking😂😂😂
John hesitating when he declares that he likes Hank at the end of the video reminds me of what is so important about Esther day. I love that this community has supported the expression of familial love in a much more open way than other places on the internet

The irony of this is that you’re so much sweeter answering these questions about Hank than Hank would probably be answering these about himself. 😂❤️
That's a video topic!
Why did you _think_ you shouldn't trust the person to talk about themselves?
@@woodfur00 cuz self reporting is unreliable, better to have an un(lol)biased observer
+
Yes, I came here to say this!
John: "You can only trust information from siblings"
John: immediately goes to Wikipedia during first answer
"Trust, but verify."
Wikipedia has a convenient list, and with such a list John can easily remember if it's true or false. "I don't think Hank ever did that" and "I seem to recall Hank talking about that" has a lot more power when it comes from his brother and business partner.
I appreciate that your adoration for Hank is so strong you can't sustain needling him for too long.
It's the only way I know how to love. -John
@@vlogbrothers Until Esther Day comes around!
I bought my mom 2d glasses for christmas- my parents are tired of hearing “and you’ll never believe who made that” when I talk about literally anything😂 its either hank or john.
Every time I ask “guess who…”, my boys either reply “Hank Green” or “John Green”.
I have to buy another pair. I keep giving them away. 😂😂😂
John's impression of Hank is proof they are definitely brothers.
its so good😅. i can do my younger brother pretty good but people mistake our voices all the time so its not very impressive😂
That recurring “…in a crisp two dimensions” epithet still gets funnier every time. Thanks for continuing to commit to the bit
It's so beautiful
The most important question in all of this is "How does Hank Green find the time to do all of this?" and the answer is like "Oh yeah I forgot to mention, Hank invented a machine that warps time but only localized to himself. This gives him days that are 32 hours long. He can spend 24 hours doing all of these projects and spend the remaining 8 hours on Tik Tok"
i forget when it was but Hank talked about this in a video years ago and it was really important for me realizing how we *don't* all have the same 24 hours in a day. like, Hank Green without a staff of assistants and managers *cannot* build or operate all these companies. having great ideas and lots of energy (what a privilege!) and an understanding of how to use that energy to make those ideas real *and* the resources (money) to do it *is still not enough.*
so an awful lot of factors have to line up just right in order to facilitate this - there are very likely thousands of potential Hanks watching Hank every day, who will never get halfway to where he is. not because of time magic or intelligence or hard work, but just because luck.
i'm forever grateful to Hank for helping me understand that.
LOL
@@MulberryDays do you happen to remember the name of the video? i'd love to watch it!
Good staff, mixed with luck and an extreme workaholic.
Honestly I wouldn’t want to be married to him.
I want to see increasingly outlandish scifi ideas about how Hank is so productive. Mine is that he has actually cloned himself and we are seeing different versions of Hank A la, the Michael Keaton's 90's film multiplicity.
My spouse and nerdfighter of many years turned to me as we were watching this and said `Subbable? That was Hank too?!' I just love that after so many years he can still surprise us 😂 (NB we just celebrated 7 years together and we have a son together and yet I have been a nerdfighter longer than I have known my spouse!)
It's the same when people find out that Jack Conte of Pomplamoose founded Patreon. I remember the Subbable launch video and asking in the comments: "Hmmm, isn't this the same as Patreon?" And John replying: "Patreon?". Yeah merging the two was the smart idea I guess :P
Congratulations on y'all's anniversary!
oddly enough, my partner and I have been together for 7 years and I've also been a nerfighter for longer than that. Congrats and I wish you well
This is the wholesome Vlogbrothers content that encouraged me to undertake the 1700+ video omnibus after discovering them 2 years ago. I'm here for it
Truly an impressive undertaking. -John
I just did that too. I explained what I was doing and no one seemed to understand why it made me so happy to watch 2 grown brothers grow up and learn to be best of friends
1700 videos at 4 minutes (or so) each is 4 days, 17 hours, and 20 minutes.
That's not an accurate measured video total, but still that's a lot of Hank and John.
I am currently doing the same. It's helping me through a truly tough time.
@@DasGanon Then add the P4A hours they host and you're right at 6 days...I also think the Miracle of Swindon Town/Swoodlypoopers, Wimbly Womblies, and the timeless love story of Bald John Green and Other John Green, teammates in life and in love, is also a valiant undertaking. I miss John playing FIFA so much.
My kids have, for much of their lives, asked me how I know so much about so many things. I always just said I loved learning and that was an okay answer. Then one day one of them came to me all excited about some topic they had just learned about that they thought was really cool. I stopped them and said "That. Just do that for 40 years. That's how I came to know so much about so many things". I think they got it at that point. For the record, they're well on their way to being walking encyclopedias and have since learned a ton about so many things I don't know anything about and I can't wait to see what they do with it all.
Can I double-like this? Please? Because this is exactly it.
Awww that's really sweet
the esperanto pfp checks out. i assume the language is included here.
My parents deeply encouraged my love of learning, and it led me to being an engineer working with devices that help people with end stage heart failure live longer. Their never ending encouragement for my love of learning led to where I am today. I bet your kids will do awesome things some day!

I wish I was as tight with my two older brothers as Hank and John are. Like, the way Hank says things like "I came on the pod today mostly because I really wanted to talk to my brother" and John says "I'm your biggest fan since you were born" is so kind and unashamedly proud and such a fantastic example of how siblinghood could look. If I have kids one day I will implement so much of John and Hank into their lives that they'll never be mean to each other!... Unless one of the two leaves a lot of baseball cards around one summer while the other is away and sells them. But that will be the only time!

With John telling the 2D glasses story again, we really are entering the “dad always telling the same stories all the time” phase of vlogbrothers and I’m not complaining
It‘s funny to me that I always forget what day it is until you upload a new video and I‘m like „it‘s tuesday!!“ and it always makes me happy.

when Sarah Ruhl said “he loved her to the point of invention” she didn’t know it yet, but she was talking about Hank and Kathryn and 2d glasses
I’m in a pretty turbulent spot with my brother (redacted I don’t wanna bum ppl out) and it’s really inspiring to see someone love their brother so much. Nerdfighters, your self care reminders for the P4A: Make sure you have plenty of snacks and hydration on hand. Clean your screens before the start of the stream. Take time to plan your P4A video if you're making one. Set your budget now/over the course of the next month so that when the time comes, you can donate responsibly! and if you have any major self care things that you need to do before the start of the p4a, make a list, break them into chunks, and get them done!
See you in the chat! DFTBA!
Aaaaw, inkwell, your comment just reminded me of last year's p4a - which was my first after many years of watching John and Hank because the timing had never worked out before - and how you kept reiterating those self-care reminders in the chat and how lovely and caring and friendly it all was 🥰 I'm very much looking forward to this year's p4a and reading your reminders and knowing there are really caring people out there 💚

@@anniesoernym I am so glad you had a good first experience! I love getting to be a part of P4A weekend for people, and I know that the whole mod team and the whole chat cares so, so much. I'm excited you're joining us again this year! There is such a beauty in seeing our community come together to make awesome happen, and the way we look out for each other is one of the most beautiful parts, imo. See you in the chat and best wishes until then!
I'm not going to lie, y'all's relationship through the years has helped me figure out better ways to cultivate my own sibling relationships. Like you aren't perfect, you're humans, but the way that you interact has helped me learn to be a little bit more tolerant of the parts of my brothers that I just don't understand all the time. I don't have to understand them, just as I'm sure they don't always understand me but we still love each other
I'd forgotten 2d glasses were created bc of Katherine, it makes me think of that one quote "I loved her to the point of invention"
Your imitation (paraphrasing) of Hank around 1:31 is so great to me. Your voice goes up a couple semitones, you talk just a smidge faster and look extra cheerful (although that could of course be from the memory) - which is basically the sum total of the external differences between you and Hank
The ending is so sweet. I was very close to my sister, and I bought a pair of those not-3-d glasses of Hank's because she actually couldn't see 3-D. If you've ever taken off the 3-D glasses during a movie, you know it's not a pleasant experience. The glasses opened up a whole new world for my sister, and it was wonderful to be able to take her to those type of movies again. She's been gone for several years now, and the glasses are something I will always appreciate for bringing back such a simple joy.
This is quality bit commitment
The John green video about Hank green that I didn't know I needed today 😂 DFTBA!
1:50 I feel like this is extremely important for students at basically every level to understand that great people aren't smarter than you, they are just passionate and won't be held back by the thought that "oh I am not a x person, so I can't do that" everyone can learn anything if they put in the work that's the great thing about learning.
“ I don’t write about siblings” Anthropocene Reviewed having that one heartfelt speech… 👀
The world needs more of this. Two men just gloating about each other for no reason other than the fact that they love and think the other one is absolutely awesome. In fact this should become a TikTok challenge and call it the Hank and John challenge. We're men pick a friend or family member and they just make a TikTok just gluten about that person and how much they mean to him. For me, I would have to pick my friend Mario who just passed away this last Friday unexpectedly. He was fucking awesome. One of the sweetest most kindest most gentle and powerful people you would have ever met in your life. With most people you could say either they love them or hate them or they're somewhere in between and I honestly don't know a single person that didn't like him. Every person I ever introduced him to or that I know of that he met absolutely loved him immensely. This world is a much darker place without him. And I wish the entire world would have gotten known him and maybe just maybe we would all been a little bit happier. I know at least for me he made me want to be a better person so I can only imagine if their world had gotten to know him how much of the BS we're going through now would suddenly vanish. RIP Mario, you were one of the most badass motherfuckers I ever knew I am going to miss you immensely. Of my friend I will say this of all the souls I've ever encountered and all of my journeys, his was the most...human.
Hoping that later this week we get Hank to answer questions about John
Oh would you look at that it’s my favorite sub genre of John video, the “this innocuous video is actually just an excuse to talk about how much I admire a specific loved one”
For real though, I do love these videos, and I love that this community also loves being able to share how deeply we care about those around us. Thank you!
1:06 I will forever be grateful for Hank for having invented those! As an epileptic, for the past 12 years I've finally been able enjoy almost every 3D movie with my friends without having to fear a seizure after (or worse, *during* ) the film. This was especially valuable back when theatres here would always just offer a 3D version instead of a 2D one. All the best from Germany! ❤
one thing i’ve noticed as a vlog brothers fan is trying to guess when i see a person if i need to describe john green as hank greens brother or hank green as john greens brother, for example, i described john green as hank greens brother to my sister but i described hank green as john greens brother to my english teacher. interesting stuff
