  • Should the customer replaces system when they’re still life left in it? I always present the options of repairing the system, even if the cost may outweigh the reward. But it’s always the customers money and their decision whether to replace or repair system I will always offer the repair, but in certain will recommend replacement when the repair just fiscally does not make sense. In this case, the customers been told to replace it with a high-end carrier infinity system where they were quoted almost $20,000 for the system. I did some repairs to help get the system cooling and return to do this capacitor and kept Bill under 1500 bucks in total until they’re ready to replace.

Nice fix. Parallel capacitors have their values added, like you did there. A pair of series capacitors result in a value according to the formula 1/c1+1/c2=1/cTotal.

They make a universal capacitor, but it is like $90.00. You could use one until the other capacitor comes in. Enjoyed the video.

What model Carrier was that? I personally, in my career have never seen a unit of that generation which size run an 80/7.5 cap. Are you totally sure that exact unit came from the factory with an 80/7.5? That is a hell of a big capacitor and pretty rare combination.
I would check Blueon or model number check. I have found an uncountable number of systems, condensers and/or PSC motors that had the wrong capacitors installed by the repair company before me. Maybe they didn't have the right size on their van and they just said the hell with it. They are always trying to sell a new units, costly repairs and it is basically going to scorch the fan and or the compressor by doing that. You mentioned the company said the system needed to be replaced and I know who you are talking about based on your description. I am just curious, if you recorded the model number off the system? I saw the Titan model number before you removed it you reacted the same way I did. I saw the 8075A and said "Bullshit!"
I am just curious is all. I have sold a boatload of Bryant equipment in my career, mostly Evolution systems but I don't know if I have ever seen a Bryant from that era that had anywhere near an 80/7.5. I don't think I have ever even bought one for stock before either.
Either way, good job saving the customer from having to buy a new system with a good cleaning, filter changed and capacitor replacement. That is how all good business owners and techs should be. I do stock one each of the Turbo 200 and 200X but for other brands.

One of my employees had a cap go out in his Carrier. We aren't A/C guys. He called me and said he was hearing a hum in the condenser. I asked him to take a pic of the cap. He claims it's never been touched from the 2017 install. It was a 70/7.5 but I didn't see any wires for fan. I asked him to get me a pic of the fan motor. Just as I figured it was an ECM motor. I thought it odd the factory would use a dual run cap. This was a 5 ton BTW. I found an A/C supply open on Sat and sent him down there. Parts guy tells him he probably needs a compressor. lol I told him pay no attention and just get a 70mfd hopefully Merican made cap. All they had was Chinese but he is enjoying his A/C again in hot So. Fl. I sent him a link for an Amrad and keep the Chinese kaka as a backup.

@@scotts4125 70’s I have seen in 5-tons and I have seen an 80 in a old Trane unit, but just not an 80 in a Carrier. But all well sell AmRad unless they are sold out. But only American made capacitors and contactors go on my vans, period. I stock a boat load of both.

@@Balticblue93 I had a contactor that was 3 months old stay pulled in. It wasn't the coil as I pulled the tstat and it was still pulled in. It was 17ohms. Contacts weren't burnt and no critters. Once I yanked it out it seemed fine. I replaced it with a Sureswitch. American is the only way to go with caps. I only use Amrads. Didn't realize you could get American made contactors also good to know but I am expecting the Sureswitches to last the life of the unit hopefully.

@@scotts4125 Whoa! Three months! 17 ohms is good too. But Sureswitch units are fantastic. I carry two on each van. They are a great product. But you certainly get American made contactors. But I think the Sureswitch has 5-year warranty too. Not to mention they are sealed from pests. They have a lot of protections and value. Great choice!

@@Balticblue93 that is the right size, I’ve only ever seen 80’s in carrier from my experience. But I called supply house to get the part and verified it and 80. By the time I would have gotten there they’d have been closed so I had to get them something!! But it is a hell of a big capacitor 🤯 that really had me for a loop I was thinking 45 to be honest when I was getting 42.5
