They should put engine In there think about it if there was an engine in that car it will be 10 times stronger because it's not empty in there there's more weight and in a crash the engine acts as a layer of a wall making it harder to crush from the front to the drivers seat.

XC60 2018 has a safety cage made in different types of steel. The most important area of the cage, that protects the intrusion of the crash into the passengers and driver, is made of BORON STEEL - a ultra high extreme solid steel - very very resistant that can even support crashes at more than 50 MPH.
XC90 did that test at 50 MPH and it passed Ok. If XC90 uses the same platform SPA, and XC60 had overall better results in crash tests, means this XC60 2018 is able to support incredible crashes speeds.
For sure this XC60 supports a 100km/h crash. Even if driver gets injured but doesn't die, it's an extraordinary amazing result and proves how cars and specially Volvo evolved in this matter.
Of course the energy of such a crash is very complicated to humans because of the deaceleration and the g forces involved. It might get your inside organs bleed.
But this is a fuckin' beast a fuckin' tank made with a high percentage of BORON STEEL. Almost 50% of its total weight.
XC60 HAS A 191 CM OF WIDTH, 469 OF LENGTH and 166 cm OF HEIGHT.
ALMOST TWO TONES 1900-2050kg most of engines and trims, and the plug in hybrid T8 because of the batteries, has a weight of 2300kg.
It has 2865 cm of wheelbase. A BEAST CALLED VOLVO XC60.

I had a master brake cylinder replaced on a year old XC60, but first it took me many weeks convincing two dealers and a field engineer that something is going on with the brakes.
On the positive side, I had a side crash in my older true Swedish 2005 Volvo XC70 (slid off an icy road in hilly forest at 40-60 MPH), B-pillar moved to the cabin for 6 inches, I could see where the deformation waves came through the car, but no humans were hurt. In fact, I was able to start the engine, hammer out the crimped rear wheel well, so the wheel can rotate and drive 300 miles to home. The car was sitting for 3 slush months in New England winter in front of garage while I was transplanting engine, gearbox, etc and my nice well-cared interior into a donor car that I bought cheap, and the crashed body didn't even show a sign of rust! This car saved my life, I saved the car, everything what I could transplant.
This XC60 2018 is also Swedish made. True one. My neighbour has one. It has a plate inside rear right door where it says Made in Sweden Torslanda. XC60 is made in Europe. In the future i don't know... but for now they are Truly Swedish cars made in Sweden.

To earn the 2017 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award, a vehicle must have good ratings in all five IIHS crashworthiness tests - small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints - an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and an acceptable or good headlight rating.
Like the previous generation, the 2018 XC60 aced the crashworthiness tests. Its standard front crash prevention system improved from an advanced to a high superior rating. The 2017 XC60 was also available with superior-rated front crash prevention.
In IIHS track tests at 12 mph and 25 mph, the 2018 model avoided collisions. It also has a forward collision warning component that meets National Highway Traffic Safety Administration criteria.
Driving around in a Fiat station wagon with my infant while waiting for my Volvo is like carrying your heart around in a flimsy plastic bag while waiting for your polstered strongbox. The Fiat is alright to drive and all, but it just doesn't cut it. Besides, it's awful for Norwegian winters. Damn transmission overheats just driving up a snowy steep road.

Very impressive. The body is very sturdy and rigid. Absorbs almost all impacts. Would be perfect if it had seatbelt/overhead airbags though.

I have XC60 for long distance and a 1996 BMW M3 E36 and a 1998 BMW/Alpina B10 4.6 E39 and a 2000 BMW Z3M roadster for fun driving and a 2000 Mercedes-Benz CLK 230 Kompressor which costed £500 as a workhorse sort of car Volvos can have speed. Mine is a T8 and as standard has 401 bhp and over 600nm of torque. But I went to the Volvo dealer and asked for the Polstar Engine optimisation package which twaks the software and adds Polstar mode which gives 415 bhp. More powerful than 330e with 290 bhp. Volvo has sporty heritage with cars like the Volvo 850R

Well , Volvos maybe be suitable for some people , they don't suit me. Also FYI, The S60 Polestar is costlier , more complex , and noticibly slower than a cheaper BMW M340i. Also , I do like old volvos like the 850R , but I don't prefer the new ones

cars can only get so safe you guys. if a car is moving 30 mph, your body is also moving 30 mph, and so are all your internal organs. if you crash head on, the vehicle goes from 30 mph or whatever speed to 0 mph in the blink of an eye. your organs also come to a very sudden stop, and like concussions, they hit the inside of your body. modern cars have crumple zones which is awesome, because it prevents the crash from reaching the cabin and it slows down the impact slightly. airbags are also a great invention because it slows your head down slower instead of your head slamming against the dashboard and your brain smacking the inside of your skull. however, your internal organs still aren't spared. seat belts do not protect internal organs, they only bring your body to a stop when the vehicle crashes and keep you from being ejected. a very sudden stop. serious internal organ damage occurs when the car comes to a fast stop and organ damage is difficult to prevent.
Justanotherguy volvos will swerve themselves, as well as slow down if they can't swerve. And it's the safest because the crumple zone takes the longest to get through, meaning minimal injuries in an accident like the one you're describing.
I know a few people -including myself- that got out a crashed Volvo totally uninjured.
And in a few cases -including our own-, the car got repaired to drive for few additional decades.
