Yes he was also he was a real hard ass at times how ever he pushed us to become better players and succeed in life he was a role model for me and father figure
The movie had his banners read '71' and '72' but he played in 75-77. I played against him in March of 1977, I guarded him and fouled out by the middle of the 2nd qtr. He was quick and had serious handles.
THIS MOVIE MADE ME CRY AND THE REAL MAN CARTER IS BLOODY INSPIRATIONAL!!!! Also SAMUEL JACKSON played his character so well. I actually cried when he came back to the gym (where’s he’s about to pack up his things) only to see his students studying with their tutors 😭😭❤️❤️😩😩😩😩
This movie touched me as a trouble talented child growing up in a rough environment! My coach showed us this movie after we made the tryouts! We went to win conference lost in the sectional championship! We changed the community !! We gave hope to generations after us! Thanks for your story Ken Carter!!! 10 yrs later!
He still shoots the hoops at Baylor / lives right down the street. He's quite something...still looks 40 stays in great shape...sure is fun to talk to...great video man !

It is not the end result, but the journey. I loved it when he called his players down about humiliating the other team. To bad more coaches don't teach that. Win and lose with class.
Darn, he did have 7 sisters! Wow, how awesome, God bless them all. I thought it was part of the joke that he's had a sister for every play they were learning in the movie

i was a student @ richmond high back in the 80s an i was also worked there i remember chris dixon and all the other team mates and i remember coach didnt let them play cuz of sum grade issues
I love this movie but as a Richmond native the movie tried to make it seem like Richmond was just one big hood when its not. There’s central, narf (north), deep central (deep c), and the southside which is divided af majority of dudes from north were going to Richmond high
Grew up around the area and went to summer school at Richmond High. You could tell he made an impact over there by the way people talked about him. Actually, he was kind of a hero in Richmond period.
This Film's so Inspiring. My favorite film as 'Basket Ball' not only being my favourite sport but also a very good message. Get educated no matter how Famous, Popular, or, Glam you are. Manner, Discipline, And, Education is what's needed.
That would be something I'll admit would be an extremely good idea, the question is tho is who is gonna play Sam's character, that being of course Coach Carter
A society without real men, gray haired, season, wise hardworking men that can be role models for the youngster is bound to fail. It is hard to be something you have never seen
Do you ever wonder who Ty Crane??......The real Ty Crane that was shown in the movie, was no other than the Center of the Charlotte Bobcats......Tyson Chandler
I was a varsity athlete myself (football), we never had to dress up on game day, and to this day I've never understood why some coaches make players do that.
I think...for boys growing up in the hood..in a bad neighbourhood..wearing a jacket and tie on game day..changes the way they think of themselves..it may work positively for them.. maybe with another bunch..it may not be necessary.
Amazing how old posts are for this video. It's almost back from the days of teachers, coaches and parents that cared. Before "timeouts" were a thing and the planet never needed dr phil, steve wilkos, the police, lawyers or jerry springer to deal with fucked up kids. There are still a lot of GREAT teachers and coaches, but the parents are fucking that up, too. I am almost 50 and I still call my friends parents Mr or Mrs and have teenage daughters who do great academically, but I take as much pride in people that tell me how well mannered and polite they are.
He was the father figure that many of these kids never had.
Yes he was also he was a real hard ass at times how ever he pushed us to become better players and succeed in life he was a role model for me and father figure
Man, the three players who walked out because they didn't agree with the contract made the worst decision of their lives

Wasn't that sad!
I was break by the part they're helping Mr. Cruz with his debt. One player struggles we all struggle.
mine was when timo cruz pounding on his door with blood stains on shirt saying he will do anything to get back on the team.

Too bad the movie wasn't actually made at Richmond CA High... I don't think they even helped the school ou.
