On the outside the Pro-4X come with special wheels, 1in lift, and skid plates. On the inside for the first time you will find power door locks and windows, plus push button start! How are you Joe? Finally a Nissan that I can watch that doesn't have a CVT.
I am doing Well! How are you?
@@RaitisRides Just staying safe from the fires going on here in LA.

@@RaitisRides ;D
It's not the only one. Nissan CVTs are used on front wheel drive (FWD) and (FWD/AWD) platforms only. They cannot handle high torque requirements and heavy towing applications...
The exterior doesn’t look too bad. The interior is sad. Nice job with the review as always Joe 👍
Hey Louis!
The exterior is pretty much the same since 2005.
Nothing wrong with he interior of this truck. I wish you could get crank windows. I plan tc buy a 2020 or 2021 before the redesign. Waiting to see if there will be an issues with the new power train.
New custom seat covers can fix that old ugly interior.
I have this truck. Its freaking epic. It's like a dang mountain goat. I got it for 2k off last year. It's rated for 23 on the highway, I got 23.8 from Amarillo to San Angelo. During Snovid-21, I never lost traction once. There are only two things I would change. 1) The center console sucks. 2) No remote start. Other than that. I moved to it from a 2k5 Chevy 2500. I've had jeeps, I helped get someone from our local Jeep club get unstuck (he was on CNN as well). Don't want 500 things telling you how to drive? Tiny truck don't give a damn. Don't want 27 different driving modes? Tiny truck don't give a damn. It has 4H, 4L a rear locker, and a gas pedal. During Snovid, I helped a Ranger fx4 uncrap itself because "Snowmode" didn't really help a hole lot. I literally pulled it up a 23 degree hill like there wasn't anything behind me. I will say, if you rely on technology to get you from point a to point b. This isn't the truck for you, but if you want a barebones truck that is almost as much of a truck as a hilux... This is your truck..
Frontiers are great. I think these are the best vehicles Nissan still produces.
I have an '18 Frontier 4x4 and I love the simplicity and the reliability.
What’s your highway fuel mileage? I drive more than 20 miles to work.
@@travelinman482
I don't get good gas mileage.
Probably around 18 MPG
Thanks for showing this one Joe. Had my 06 Frontier (Crew 4x4 6MT) for 14 years now; best automotive purchase I've ever made. Looking forward to the 2021 redesign though, hopefully you can get your hands on one soon...
Gosh, this thing being around forever is right! You ain't kiddin', but glad to hear about a revamp soon.
Nissan trucks are really underrated. I am excited to see the new design. I think it will look more like it's big brother the Titan. I love my Titan Pro4x, I had it fully loaded and did the 3 inch suspension lift, rock sliders, and fender flares. Does everything you could possibly ask a truck to do.
Another great video that's great Rati!
Thanks man for letting me share it with you!
I love this truck with all of my heart! I am almost sad to see the new model replace it!
The D40 Frontier will still be sold in Africa and the Middle East. The new model will be new to the US but it's already in its 7th year of production.
I was waiting for the on throttle over the train tracks lol, good review Joe.
Raitis rides ... the only reviews I can trust!
I just got a 2020 Frontier 4X4 . I got the King cab , don’t need a crew cab anymore as my children are grown. This is my first 4X4 and so far I’m liking it. I didn’t get the Pro model but mine does have the tie down tracks in the bed , oh the bed is a 6 foot bed . Thanks for your review on the Frontier 4X4 . Merry Christmas to you and your family. J
I've got the same truck just one year older with the venerable VQ40. Love my Arctic Blue Metallic!!
Nice to see the engine and transmission upgrade. Really interested to see what they do with the redesign.
Rati is the type of guy to make reviews on cars
You are really awesome for saying that!
There are two glove boxes. The second one is right on top of the one you opened. I still own a 2006 SV 4X4 with 180K miles on it and have been very happy with it. I’m 6’1” 200lbs and didn’t fit into a Tacoma . I looked at the Canyon/Colorado but they were gutless and seeing the issues the GM twins had over the years, I’m glad I chose the Nissan.
I have a 2013 Frontier SL 4x4. I love it. I'm looking forward to seeing the 2021 Frontier.
I love that cassette deck!!
Thank you for another excellent review!
You are so very welcome!
Nice review! the houses across from where you off roading probably wondering what's going on.
My man here is the reason I purchased a '19 Midnight Frontier. I love my truck. It is what it is a "Truck". The jury for me is still out on the new power train. Mine has the tried and true tested 5 SPD auto and 4.0 V6. I get a lot of looks at the Car wash and at stop lights. Thanks my buddy for your videos👍
Yea right ur not getting any looks from that truck
My 20 Midnight will outrun your 19.
I love this truck! I looked EVERYWHERE for one before finally giving up.
Nice new location, love it!
Love the old school feel. I have a 2016 with 30k miles. I love the simplicity and dependability. Little concerned about the DI engine. Longevity and cost of major maintenance are concerns.
i also have 2016 with 31K miles... love my truck
I enjoy reviews like this, the Armada, 4Runner, Tundra, etc. these are my favorite type of vehicles to drive. I love your reviews. Zonk in my favorite word in regards to vehicle negatives 😆
Thanks for taking the time to say that and your awesome support!
@@RaitisRides No problem Joe 👍🏽

I can’t wait for the 2021 Frontier that’s going to be revealed later this year!
SOUNDS LIKE A SKYLINE TO ME!
Joe, that old 4.0L used to scream, but this one... I laughed a little. She’s a screamer!!!
Everyone forgets about the extra glove box on top of the bottom one.A little extra space I keep my gun in.
Thanks for the review Joe! The exterior is great, interior is still very outdated. Still gives the 90’s feel to it. Looking for the redesign.
When I saw 2020, I thought, “you gotta be joking right?”
right?? it looks so old and outdated I actually thought it was a 2010 model at best

Is this the first year of the 3.8 liter? Is the driveshaft aluminum? Good review Joe, as expected.
One of my favoutite trucks!
Although it's 2020 model, it looks like it's 2008 model or earlier!!
I loved my Nissan Frontier! Only traded it cause I made the mistake of buying the 2 door! Their beast midsize trucks!
Great video
This truck really goes together with this guy they make the perfect match
1:00 Loving the variety of locations. Sure, the Frontier is old AF, but it's still a good truck. I wish they had kept the Xterra.
I still love my 2013 frontier SV
Wow, Nissan is my 100% favorite brand, and the frontier is totally my favorite small truck. I could probably tow my own custom, drawn, and paint designed jetski with it.
But if there was a tow hook, then yes I would still do it.
damn, he actually reviewed one, dude is pure class
This truck is on my radar, just wondering if I should wait and see what 2021 brings. Based on my online shopping you get more for the $$$ going Nissan.
As old is it is it still looks great...!
When you’re bored and there is literally nothing else to do....”well, I guess no one else has reviewed this Nissan Frontier.” (Crickets) lol!
1995 called, they want their interior back! The all new Frontier is coming so soon, might as well wait IMO.
I traded my 19.for a 20 Midnight edition and the new engine and transmission are awesome.
@@gregoryhodge9452 is it faster?

I was about to pull the trigger on a used 18 desert runner...
think I'm gonna wait a bit and wait for a 21 desert runner next year.
I love the way this truck drives. Crossing my fingers the direct injection engine doesn't give me problems in the long run.
I think you will be back!
Couple of things watching this 3 yrs later. The Pro 4X of this vintage DOES have a front tow hook. Its on the Passenger side tucked under a little bit. There is a cut out on the Drivers Side if you want to install another one. 2nd. He mentioned a small glove box? But he didn't show that there is actually 2 glove boxes not just the one. Right above the one he opened there is a latch for an additional glove box. 3rd, yes the infotainment is old on this truck, but it does have some cool features. It tells you if your speeding and that can be adjusted, tells you if a turn is coming to warn you to slow down to reduce the rollover chance and the Rockford System is actually pretty decent. Great Truck and VERY undrrated.
Waiting for your 2022 review this summer. Is Nissan the only mid-size truck that you can get a long bed with Crew-Cab?
There’s something I like about the old school style in this truck. If you need a truck for truck things and not as a daily commuter to work and back, this might be a decent option. I bet you could drive it of the lot for about 35k with taxes and fees. Pretty good option for those who care about their finances more than they care about gimmicky screens or a soft dash.
Awesome video. Really want to buy a midsize but I'm waiting for the new Frontier to come out. Tacoma, is too tight in the rear and seat height is too high; Ranger is too expensive; Colorado & Canyon is my next option but only if it had push start i would definitely buy it without question; almost bought the Frontier because how cheap it is and it is still a good truck, but was told the new frontier will be debuting in about a couple months.
Somebody probably already said this, but the rails in the back are a base for a whole system called Utilitrack.
you know i like it, the guy doesn't need a rope ladder to get into it, its powertrain seems nice, and it looks practical, i think the push button start is kinda lazy.
the tiedowns are a nice touch too, if they made a regular cab 4x4 4cylinder 5 speed and was able to sell it to me for like 24k i'd buy one
I think the Frontier has two glove boxes. And I love the manual hand break. That’s classic old school.
Love Joe's reviews had a13 frontier traded for subie outback which is a repair hog trading back for 2019 pfx
2020? Looks like 1999

Really surprising that 20 doesn’t have a tow hook. On my 19 I have just one but even then that can make a big difference

I thought the locking diff only worked in 4L at 4mph and under?
I have a 2019 Pro 4 X and that's what the owners manual says. Is that new in 2020 for it to work in 4H?
Thanks
The new frontier (Navara) in Asia/Australia, it will blow your mind, great truck, only downside no manual option like the old Nissan. Here in north America 99% of vehicles are automatic, but still choose manual always, more connect with the vehicle. The new frontier will be a great option in 2022!
This truck’s looked the same since I was a kid, they should keep it going for as long as they can. It’s starting to get funny 😄😆
Great job nissan did on this one.kept the outside almost the same changed the drive train with more power and better fuel economy.which was much needed...
Your units of measurement are so 🤔 interesting
I plan on getting this but then again the redesign is in 2021.
Not a bad review, but to correct you a bit. There is a front tow hook / recovery hook on the passenger side, and the front end has changed since the first 2005 models, the earlier 2000’s models had two piece chrome bumpers. And the later models had a full one piece color’d bumper and they added some minor wind deflectors etc that don’t actually do anything.
WTH!? My man is under the highway!!! 👏🏻😂
I really love my 2016 frontier. Great truck.

That is the current Navara, not the Frontier, they are different Nissan trucks.

Joe I was confused for a second there, I can't believe Nissan is still selling this model in the US but atleast the engine and transmission package is modern with the skid plates to complete it all🙏
Nice video
how you get under the interstate??? i like it, the location.
not bad for a little 4x4.
the tow hooks are just below the front air dam about even with inside edge of the tire. I have them on my 05 nismo edition. They are also visible on this 2020. He just missed them.
My 2018 frontier really looks like it was made in Tennessee. Some interior pieces are missing. And when you shut the blower motor off and turn the truck off, you can hear the blend doors move by themselves
You can fit in that pocket hustler + playboy magazine too.
The 2012 pathfinder was good because it was the last body on frame.
I’m new I’m subscribing 👌
I just bought a 2020 SV Midnight today. I opted against the Pro4X because reasons, but I'm hoping I can mod it to get the same off road capabilities of this Pro4X. What do you think? Possible? Thanks man. Great content.
Congrats James! You sure can modify it!
Did you have any luck finding aftermarket lockers? I bought a 2021 CV and haven’t seen lockers for 2020 and 2021 CV models.
Nice off road ride. Didn’t know Nissan make good trucks.
I’m telling ya Nissan really ironed it out with this one but they’ve squeezed every last drop out of it this would be a great buy for someone that wants off-roading on a budget and is easy to clean and maintain
Hey Joe, when reviewing trucks (or large SUV's) please mention at what RPM the torque is rated for. That's actually really important when it comes to heavy hauling. The old 4.0 made the same torque 400rpm lower and had a smoother torque curve throughout, this engine you really need to rev it up to like 2000 rpm to get decent torque. Sure the 4.0 didn't rev as high, but it would have done the job better. The only reason this will perform better in real world is because of the 9 speed. If they had the same trans the 4.0 would out perform this when doing any actual work.
I agree with you, the fact that both engines make the same amount of torque is a testament to how powerful and how bad ass of an engine that old 4.0 VQ V6 engine was….i used to have new one back in 2005 when I was 19 years old….as matter of fact it was the first model year for this generation of frontier, a black 2005 Nissan Frontier SE 4x4 crew cab V6/Auto and it was a beast of a truck that i off-roaded a lot for the 5 years that I had it and 100k miles that I put into it before I traded it in which I then regretted that I did….big time regret…..I miss my baby…..😢 now I’m gonna give myself a timeout and face the corner and contemplate my past life decisions…😢😢😢
You forgot to show the extra glovebox mate! Took me two years to find hahah right above the traditional glovebox
Thanks for that info Jackson. You are so right!
Several years went by before I found out my 09 had OD.
1 TOW HOOK FRONT LOWER RIGHT!!!

Does the 2020 pro4x have the hidden glove box above the regular glove box? Regular glove box opens down, then there’s a latch that opens the top glove box up. Perfect for your .45 and a spare box of ammo.
Yes it dioes.
Joe did you notice interior rattling on the paved road?
I have a 2003 Nissan frontier xe v6 I'm thinking of upgrading to this but I dont think the trade in value ain't much
Even though this truck is so old it doesn't really seem outdated compared to the competition. Fords infotainment setup/dash design looks like its from 2008 and you can't get leds on either gm midsized. That shows how this segment really is far behind
I want LEDs inside glass lens headlights on that thing but same shape headlights too.
Can you test a base Ford Ranger Crew cab...would like your thoughts.
Nissan announced yesterday that the new Navara is being announced next week. They commented and said it’s also the new frontier.
Diff Lock is flashing on the cluster...won't engage only in 4LOW and you have to be going under 5MPH.
