  • The Nissan Frontier has been basically the same truck for years until NOW. Under the hood is an all NEW 3.8L V6 that produces 310HP & mated to a NEW 9-speed automatic transmission. On the outside the Pro-4X come with special wheels, 1in lift, and skid plates. On the inside for the first time you will find power door locks and windows, plus push button start! Is the 2020 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X a BETTER truck with a NEW engine?

I have this truck. Its freaking epic. It's like a dang mountain goat. I got it for 2k off last year. It's rated for 23 on the highway, I got 23.8 from Amarillo to San Angelo. During Snovid-21, I never lost traction once. There are only two things I would change. 1) The center console sucks. 2) No remote start. Other than that. I moved to it from a 2k5 Chevy 2500. I've had jeeps, I helped get someone from our local Jeep club get unstuck (he was on CNN as well). Don't want 500 things telling you how to drive? Tiny truck don't give a damn. Don't want 27 different driving modes? Tiny truck don't give a damn. It has 4H, 4L a rear locker, and a gas pedal. During Snovid, I helped a Ranger fx4 uncrap itself because "Snowmode" didn't really help a hole lot. I literally pulled it up a 23 degree hill like there wasn't anything behind me. I will say, if you rely on technology to get you from point a to point b. This isn't the truck for you, but if you want a barebones truck that is almost as much of a truck as a hilux... This is your truck..

Couple of things watching this 3 yrs later. The Pro 4X of this vintage DOES have a front tow hook. Its on the Passenger side tucked under a little bit. There is a cut out on the Drivers Side if you want to install another one. 2nd. He mentioned a small glove box? But he didn't show that there is actually 2 glove boxes not just the one. Right above the one he opened there is a latch for an additional glove box. 3rd, yes the infotainment is old on this truck, but it does have some cool features. It tells you if your speeding and that can be adjusted, tells you if a turn is coming to warn you to slow down to reduce the rollover chance and the Rockford System is actually pretty decent. Great Truck and VERY undrrated.

There is a front tow hook / recovery hook on the passenger side, and the front end has changed since the first 2005 models, the earlier 2000’s models had two piece chrome bumpers. And the later models had a full one piece color’d bumper and they added some minor wind deflectors etc that don’t actually do anything.

the tow hooks are just below the front air dam about even with inside edge of the tire. I have them on my 05 nismo edition. They are also visible on this 2020. He just missed them.

My 2018 frontier really looks like it was made in Tennessee. Some interior pieces are missing. And when you shut the blower motor off and turn the truck off, you can hear the blend doors move by themselves

I just bought a 2020 SV Midnight today. I opted against the Pro4X because reasons, but I'm hoping I can mod it to get the same off road capabilities of this Pro4X. What do you think? Possible? Thanks man. Great content.

Hey Joe, when reviewing trucks (or large SUV's) please mention at what RPM the torque is rated for. That's actually really important when it comes to heavy hauling. The old 4.0 made the same torque 400rpm lower and had a smoother torque curve throughout, this engine you really need to rev it up to like 2000 rpm to get decent torque. Sure the 4.0 didn't rev as high, but it would have done the job better. The only reason this will perform better in real world is because of the 9 speed. If they had the same trans the 4.0 would out perform this when doing any actual work.

I agree with you, the fact that both engines make the same amount of torque is a testament to how powerful and how bad ass of an engine that old 4.0 VQ V6 engine was….i used to have new one back in 2005 when I was 19 years old….as matter of fact it was the first model year for this generation of frontier, a black 2005 Nissan Frontier SE 4x4 crew cab V6/Auto and it was a beast of a truck that i off-roaded a lot for the 5 years that I had it and 100k miles that I put into it before I traded it in which I then regretted that I did….big time regret…..I miss my baby…..😢 now I’m gonna give myself a timeout and face the corner and contemplate my past life decisions…😢😢😢

Does the 2020 pro4x have the hidden glove box above the regular glove box? Regular glove box opens down, then there’s a latch that opens the top glove box up. Perfect for your .45 and a spare box of ammo.

Even though this truck is so old it doesn't really seem outdated compared to the competition. Fords infotainment setup/dash design looks like its from 2008 and you can't get leds on either gm midsized. That shows how this segment really is far behind
