      I'm curious what thoughts you might have on why your theater rooms went unused? I'm either moving to a new home or a boat in the next year, and if I stay on land a theater room was one of my "nice to haves" for a new home.

    • @KristiWright
      @KristiWright Pƙed rokem +1

      @@fantabuloussnuffaluffagus Typically, dedicated theater rooms are in less than welcoming environments (windowless rooms or basements) and/or simply located in areas where the family doesn't typically congregates. To me that is going to be at the top of the list as to why DHTs often go unused.

    • @fantabuloussnuffaluffagus
      @fantabuloussnuffaluffagus Pƙed rokem

      @@KristiWright Thanks Kristi. I suppose that's the answer I expected, but I also thought that getting together to watch the latest on Netflix or whatever would engender enough sense of occasion to make using a DHT worth the trouble.
      Isn't a windowless basement room ideal for a home theater?
      Time to reconsider I suppose.

    • @KristiWright
      @KristiWright Pƙed rokem +1

      @@fantabuloussnuffaluffagus If you want to use a projector, then yes, a windowless or light controlled room is best however, I think the reality is that those are still often less inviting or in more remote locations of the home which result in a lack of use.

    Please hold onto that refreshing individualism, professionalism and excitement in your videos. Following many HIFI and Home Audio channels, you two stand out for not taking this hobby too serious and not being elitist. This channel has always been my go to source for informative, high quality and fun reviews. I love your conversations at the end and the Polk R700 review showed that you are passionate, down to earth and really care. You deserve the best for 2023.

    You're not alone Andrew, almost every dedicated theater I've ever seen built has quickly become a kids play area or a forgotten remnant of a nice dream. Out of sight really is out of mind. I've helped more than a few people design their dream homes and I always advise against dedicated in home recreation spaces. As in almost every case they get relegated to storage or junk rooms and it's expensive square footage to waste. Incorporating a home theater into the main living area really is the best idea for most people. Other recreational pursuits are best done in a separate building outside the home where your time can be focused on your passion and not splitting time between switching over laundry loads or helping with homework. If someone tells me they don't really have the time to go to a dedicated out building then I ask what makes them think they will have the time if such a space exists inside their home. If you won't walk across your driveway to get to your so called passion then you won't walk upstairs to a bonus room to do it either.
    I'll even give an example from a home I helped a co-worker design about eight years ago. They took a stock plan and asked for help modifying it. The upstairs basically had two large attic areas that could either be finished or not. The couple thought (my co-workers husband, honestly) it would be wonderful to have a dedicated home theater. This room would be on the far back side of the home, upstairs and away from the kitchen and family area. I advised to use a different plan altogether but if not then build the theater in the main living area instead and we would modify the plan to suit. Nope, they wouldn't do it. Okay, $85,000 later for the finishing of attic space, equipment, theater chairs etc, etc... and they watched approximately ten movies over the course of six months by their own estimate and hadn't used the space for anything other than hosting their kids birthday parties in the last seven years. Now they use the new scaled down theater in the living room which cost an additional $70,000 (summer of 2021 expensive construction) including $20,000 just for all the revision work and remodeling needed to install the equipment the way it should have been done in the first place. The total cost if done at the time of construction would have been around $45,000. Before that the once proud (hard headed) theater king used a sound bar in the living room for six years. So, add it all up and these folks spent $155,000 total on home theater setups that should have cost them just $45,000 because they discovered dedicated rooms are inconvenient, isolating and have to be cleaned, maintained and paid for in the monthly mortgage but with very little use for the effort.

      I think I have to mention that all movies today, from streaming to theatrical, are 7.1.4 at the minimum. This is the starting point these days. Also this 7.1.4 is the standard for Atmos Music.
      My favorite videos (sorry can't remember if it's one or two), are those about the construction of the space and acoustics. I think that it's a good idea to add more videos and suggestions like these in your future content. Also, if I an allowed to ask, I am very interested to see your house guys. Make a video about that, if course only what you want to share. I am full in about interior design to.
      Thank you for the time to share this year with us. Have a great new one.

    So here is what I learned since subscribing to your channel as a member this year. I came to your channel because I wanted to get into home theatre. I was already steeped in the dark hole of audio spending thousands upon thousands on everything including outrageously expensive cables, interconnects and power blocks not to mention lots on turntables, speakers and tube gear. I lost the enjoyment of listening to music and became addicted to listening to equipment never satisfied. Out of frustration I locked all my equipment in the basement, with my 5,000 plus LPs, and 3,000 CDs twenty years ago.. I only listened to music live in small jazz venues which I have done since I was 15 years of age and am now 73. I still go with my wife of 40 years to a live jazz club every Saturday night because of the love of music. I can without question say that if you want to be in love with your spouse for 40 years find something you both love and share and keep doing it like you did when you first met and were dating. Since I joined your channel I purchased the Onkyo RZ 50, the Polk R 700s, the Polk R400 Center channel speaker, the SVS 3000 micro, the Bluesound Node, some Decware cables and a miniDSP SHD so I have both the ability to tune my room using Dirac and EQ the result as the SHD give you both options. I've used all your links so I hope you were compensated for that. What I learned is I'm not attracted to the blockbuster type movies that allow me to hear full surround sound with Dolby Atmos. I still prefer foreign films with subtitles where surround sound does not really matter although I do listen in Dolby surround. What you have both done for me however is renewed my enjoyment of listening to music in my home. I have unpacked the LPs and CDs, unpacked my Merrill turntable with the ETII arm and will be getting the Ortofon Black you recommend. So even though Home theatre turned out not be all that important to me, you have rekindled my love of of sitting down to a great album and listening to the music and not the equipment and for that I love you both. Happy New Year, be well! and I hope you had a chance to download the image I made you for your Instagram channel.

But now I want to copy your atmos and surround setup for that same flexibility. With big and bright tv too. Projectors can eat it. Your design details and purpose for home spaces are so helpful. I have a huge home renovation starting in 2 weeks (which I'm equal parts excited and terrified for), so your home theatre renovation videos have been hugely influential in planning my dream basement home theatre. Paradigm Monitor SE 5.1 speakers, with 4 Paradigm in-ceiling speakers to timbre match, Onkyo RZ50 driving the 5.1.4 speakers, but also consideration for room correction (Dirac), acoustic treatments, and furniture stylings, which has helped greatly with buy-in with my wife. She chose the furniture, I grabbed the gear, and together we get our dream basement setup. Thanks to you both, Andrew and Kristi! All the best in 2023.

    Finally did it. The Cornwalls were out of our budget unfortunately so we went with 3 Heresy IVs in black ash. While the stereo imaging made for a perfect center channel (just like you said of the cornwall's), it only worked great sitting in one spot with the speakers point straight at me. The Heresy IV as a center is amazing. Perfect clarity across the entire very large room. Final stages of a living room/kitchen remodel and the TV and sound engulf both the kitchen and living areas. We often sit at the bar area in the kitchen and with this setup, audio video are perfect everywhere. I HIGHLY recommend the Heresy IV as a center channel. Now, can you get one wrapped to match your amazing Cornwalls! FYI, now my surrounds and ATMOS speakers kinda suck but are OK with some tweaking....... Older version of the same Klipsch in ceilings y'all put in... You earned what ever sponsorship Klipsh gives you (if any) on these videos, thank you!

      @R I'm sorry to hear you were not happy with the R700s. May I ask what speakers you tend to gravitate towards and which tweeters have you preferred? Also, what is your room like in terms of size? I admit I'm surprised at your experience. I've yet to come across anyone with this particular complaint.

    I really enjoy all the reviews but the one that I listen to the most is the review of the Klipsch RP 8000f. I actually got a pair based on your review. Resently my Klipsch SPL 150 sub stopped working and I had to take it back to the store that I got it from so that they can take a look at it, so now the LFE is being routed to the 8000f and they actually do kick like a Clydesdale horse 🐎, when I listen to that review it helps me learn a little more about that speaker.

    The R700 episode was the first to come to mind from a subject matter point of view, but the two that stood out most was when Kristi talked about her grandmother, as well as the Roe v. Wade decision. It was a wonderful reminder that there is life beyond CZcams videos. Real people make these videos and we all need to be reminded of that every now and then. There’s more to CZcams than just people filming others at their worst or humans getting hurt being stupid and looking for likes. God bless both of you.
