    This channel exists to document unit counters within StarCraft 2. Tya's Unit Tournament features epic battles between units in StarCraft 2, using music from the game's soundtrack. Units are chosen from Protoss, Terran and Zerg forces, or a coop commander such as Raynor, Nova, Artanis, or Kerrigan. Units will independently use their abilities, in a basic way. All units use Legacy of the Void stats, the same units you'd see in SC2 esports controlled by the likes of Serral, Maru, and ByuN. The resource beneath vespene is the unit's cost in the mod I run on the SC2 arcade, Direct Strike. Enjoy!

    Spartan Company failing against a lightly larger amount of Goliaths: "Sounds reasonable. They're not that buffed up, plus being more of an anti-air unit"

      Both Hammer Security and Devil Dogs has less range than they ladder version (in this video), so, the normal Marauders star with advantage between his up version. However, i stil think: "How the hell Hammer Security fail angaist Marauders?????"
      Also, idk if they range was modified in some patch notes of game, or still the standart version in campaign

      Hammer was least buffed out of all merc to be fair

      Normal Marauder was supposed to have 25% less health, but they buffed ladder Marauder health to the same as Hammer Securities after WoL released, which took away their only advantage since campaign Marauders can’t stimpack, which negates H.Sec’s higher per damage attack.

      I mean, they were actually an even tie in effectiveness. The problem was that marauders had a slightly luckier targeting.
      Honestly the Battlecruiser one was bullshit, they gave the jackson NONE of its upgrades.

      in large numbers the size of the unit counts. The ladder version units are smaller and they bunch up more.Having more fire power faster

      Main advantage ladder BC have is being able to shoot while moving, which these matches never take advantage of unfortunately. Tactical jump is the other one, which is a very strong tool...whose power isnt easy to translate to a simple deathmatch

      The actual reason is due to ladder BCs having trash anti-air damage. Ladder BCs only deal 6 damage to air while Jacksons deal 12 to air. When you factor in the base 3 armor for BCs, the BCs deal 3 damage per shot and Jacksons deal 9. So the Jacksons have tripled the anti-air damage output in this matchup.

      @@joshuakim5240 Ladder BC ATA damage has been 5 for like 3-4 years now so with the JR having full armour they're doing 2 damage per shot. Though I haven't played WOL in a while so correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you mixed up the ATS/ATA of the JR. Like the BC, I'm pretty sure the JR has significantly stronger ATS than ATA, so it's their ground attack that's at 12 and ATA that's 8 or 9. Still a pretty significant damage increase, especially with their Yamato doing 300 damage rather than the 240 of current ladder BC's and their increased health.

      The WoL campaign BCs have identical ATS and ATA damage (which seems pointless to label them separate attacks), but you are right that ladder BCs only deal 5 dmg. I also completely forgot about the WoL Yamato damage since it's been so long and yeah, that packs a way bigger punch than ladder to give the Jacksons another advantage.

    I don't remember what the damage table is for the marauder versus the hammer security, but the difference in damage must be something where it doesn't actually change the number of total shots it takes to kill one versus the other

      Hammers need fewer shots, the problem is that translates to more overkill. Making things worse is they can’t stimpack while ladder Marauders can.

      @@GintaPPE1000 You're right that they can't stim in the campaign, however in this video we can see stim is available to them and them using it weirdly. I didn't even know there was a version of Hammer Security that can stim (maybe in Amon's forces in coop?)

    Watching the Jackson's revenge fleet just power through the Yamato cannon barrage like it was nothing, and then be very outnumbered for like a good minute, just to come back from the brink of losing and kill the last battlecruiser as it was preparing to fire was the most badass thing.

    So what happened with the Marauders is that on the ladder they have 125 HP but for some reason in the campaign they have 100. Hammer Security has bonus HP, but it just brings them back to 125.
    Both sides Stim down to 105.
    While Hammer does 24 base damage to the ladder’s 20, once you factor in +1/+1 upgrades the math works out so each side needs five attacks to kill the other. It’s an even fight.

    5/7, for some reason I never felt Hammer Securities was that bad during the campaign lol oh well.

      Not only the mercs, if you play the WoL campaign you'll get to play with all the units as they were on release, since the devs decided to separete the unit data from ladder that way they didn't have to worry about rebalancing the campaign if they decided to rebalance the versus mode.
      You get to see some oddities like the removed special attack ultralisks had agasint buildings and the complelty busted siegetanks that dealt full damage to everything

      At the end it was just down to targeting priority. Hammer Securities targeted full health marauders instead of the low/1hp ones, allowed normal marauders to stay even with damage.

    Hammer securities took me by surprise, NGL, but I instantly knew the Spartan Company was going to lose, you see, they suffer from the same problem Nova's Elite Goliaths, they are fat, meaning that they fit less models on the same battle line compared to regular ones, turning their stat advantage null.

      Prestige 1 Raynor should have had mercs. Instead we got sparse amounts of bio units with double hp that do no damage early game.

      Nova's Elite Special Ops Units are similar but not quite the same as Merc Compound Units. Elite Spec Op units seem more beefy and have better upgrades, IMHO. ... I view Hill as more of a Merc Recruiter who works closely with Raynor and Swan supplying them with slightly better versions of their units than a supplier of Spec Ops units. ... Was thinking a Hill Commander could play like Merc Recruiter. Get his units directly from the Merc Compound Structure. As a Merc Recruiter, he could offer his Merc Units a Recruitment Bonus to rapidly reduce the unit availability (charge counter) time in his Merc Compound; however, the drawback of this effect is that the current price of the Merc Units would temporally increase a bit. (Think it like a reverse MUEL effect.) IMHO, the Recruiter theme would paly off of Hill's "Right Price" quote. ... And, since Hill uses Raynor-Swan type units, his upgrades would be from their relevant unit upgrade pallet. ... What would make Hill unique as a Commander in DIRECT STRIKE is that he would be the only Commander that could field an army entirely of Merc Units.

    Man the Vikings vs Hels Angel's showed that in mass fights, slash damage is everything. Also, the fight between Spartan Company and the Goliaths was surprisingly one-sided. I thought Spartan Company would win o.o

      Not splash damage, micro. The vikings lost because they stacked up. If they had continued moving until they surrounded the Hels Angels they would have won, despite taking more initial damage from when they were moving.

    3/7- Merc BC armor is insane

      On the contrary both BCs have the same armor value but Jacksons revenge damage is higher, although they attack slower.
      At full upgrades Jacksons revenge attacks every 0.225 seconds, so about 9 times in 2 seconds, for 11 damage dealing a total of 5 damage per attack, due to BCs having 6 armor at max upgrades,
      The ladder BC on the other hand attacks every 0.16 seconds, about 13 times in 2 seconds, for 8 damage dealing a total of 2 damage per attack.
      Add the fact that Jacksons revenge has 700 HP compared to the 550 of the regular BC.

      @@timbo3286 Hold up there. Are you talking about LotV BCs when you talk about their attack speed? Because every time someone mentions attack speed in LotV ladder compared to campaign units, they forget to account for the fact that LotV tooltips are made around faster time while campaign tooltips are made around normal time. In other words, in a battle against Jackson’s Revenge, normal BCs actually have a .16 * 1.4 second rate of fire.

    PSA FOR EVERYONE TALKING ABOUT MARAUDERS VS HAMMER SECURITIES
    Marauders and Hammer Securities have the same attack speed, even in LotV. The tooltips are only different because Marauder numbers are calculated under FASTER time while Hammer Security numbers are calculated under NORMAL time. When pitted against each other, you need to realize that they are firing at the same rate of fire! They also both have stim in this video, so there is no point about attack speed difference.
    Of course, this does not change the fact that Hammer Securities are bad mercenaries, as seen in the video.

    the only disadvantage mercenaries units have is the size. And in large numbers counts. Because they can't bunch up like the ladder units having less or same firepower as the ladder units right away. So it must be that. Mercenaries units are good in small numbers not in mass.

    Did Hammer Securities actually have Stim? I always thought campaign Marauders were stim less.

    I just love Jackson's revenge's attack animation, and I think the battlecruiser's blink actually pulled them back? Because they have to fly back in and not attack.

    Also I realizes BCs jumping away from the fight doesn't really help them like with stalkers, they don't regenerate health, it just weakens the battle line.

      A 1HP battlecruiser deals just as much as a 550HP one though. That's mainly how the Stalkers win, especially in short fights. It's also why you see some Stalker formations lose almost nothing at the start, and then suddenly collapse.

      @@Darkside007yeah but stalkers have the reasoning that injured ones will regen some shield after blinking to the back. There’s a small net gen for the stalkers group that isn’t the case for bcs, the sum hit points will be the same, plus bcs can attack while moving, it’s even losing firepower when they are not in the front.

    I think WoL maduraders were weaker and had no stim. LotV mauraders are super buffed, basically Hammer securities with faster attack rate, stim and range

    The Siege Breakers and Hel's Angels are easily the best mercs in WoL. The Siege Breakers are just...wow! In siege mode they wreck just about anything they have vision of and in tank mode, well you saw what just happened. With Hel's Angels their AoE attack advantage gives them that solid advantage. The Dusk Wings (banshees) also aren't bad with their AoE upgrade. If I had to rank the mercs from best to worst it would be:
    1. Siege Breakers
    2. Hel's Angels
    3. Dusk Wings
    4. War Pigs (marines): Their survivability alone make them worth it.
    5. Spartan Company: Mostly for their anti-air which we didn't get to see here.
    6. Jackson's Revenge: The biggest advantage here is the ability to have a BC in battle with no starport and fusion core.The unit itself is... okay, and you only get one per mission. It sure does look cool, though.
    7. Hammer Securities: I'm not sure what happened here. Did the AI derp out because units with added damage and health should win. I also wonder if they had the WoL armory upgrades.
    8. Devil Dogs: It should be fairly obvious that firebats are pretty useless in SC2; I don't even think they were all that great in SC1. Upgraded or not I generally don't bother.

    Kind of suck there weren't any Protoss mercenaries in LOTV.
    Then again LOTV had a lot of missed opportunities.
