Wonderful revelation and insight 🙏, Lady A ❤️ I used to work at a very famous 5 star hotel , and let me tell you the fancy wallpaper stopped at the staff entrance , five star out on stage , two star in the wings 😂😂 . It really was theatre ! I also thing that sometimes in the bigger commercial hotels you can feel like just a number , especially if everything is electronic , they can definitely feel a bit impersonal and imposing . There are some that buck the trend , and your experiences sounds exemplary ! Personally I prefer smaller independent country guest houses or urban chic town house hotels . Having said that I am very fond of a big London hotel that have a permanent resident cat Queen Lilibet 😻👑, who is allowed to roam her domain as she likes ! 🙏❤️💋

Your section on the instagrammers almost had me in stitches 💕 I am (a young) 45 and I always marvel (mostly to myself) at how I was born in the wrong era... for multiple reasons, but especially because posting my life constantly just doesn't resonate with me. I can get on board with a quick picture or two but seeing people pose excessively and performatively with no sense of shame/self-awareness as to how it comes off to those around them 🙈 Bikini girls on the beach are the worst of this group.
Bikini girls do not get me started 😡 Snap you and me both I will never try to understand or aspire to posting any part of my life than what is necessary or in context 🤦🏾♀️
Thanks for this very detailed review Anesu. Raffles has the burden of striking the balance between history, heritage and accommodating it's in house guests and those visitors who come for high tea and to make use of the facilities on the one hand, and the Instagram/social media /influencer economy on the other. It's a delicate dance and I am afraid the stage is set for a collision because the intrusiveness of influencer culture is very off putting. That said, I am also wondering whether the gaps you mentioned have to do with the recent ownership changes. I am still left with a warm feeling from your review, and appreciate your candor.
It truly is a balancing act and I don't know how they are going to do it but i guess at the end of the day it all boils down to what's important to them. I wonder what vision the new owners have and how they intend to get there, lets watch this space. Thank you for supporting my channel.

The exact thing happened to me when we were in Italy. I kept my maiden name because I’m proud of my Sir name. Nobody addressed me, only my husband. Everyone kept saying Mr. Key how was your sleep, Mr. Key how was your dinner, bla bla bla. I’m the one who paid for everything so the room and all charges were on my credit card but still they only addressed my husband. I would hand them the credit card and they literally would hand it back to my husband. At first it really aggravated me but by the end we were just laughing about it.
Instagrammers are anything but pleasant. The neighborhood where I live has become hip and trendy during the past few years. So, it is rampant with these annoying young instagrammers and CZcamsrs. Don't expect any good manners from any of them. As a property owner, I am totally ignored even when they sit on a bench within my property. Simple greeting from them would make them a bit more welcome.
Rampant is the right word! Awww don’t get me started we live next to an instagram house with a bench outside imagine what it’s like in the middle of the night. We have lost count of the number of times we have woken up to find a production crew at 6am staging a photoshoot! 😡
Are you sure the two ladies you caught on camera are not your fans? They got their handbags choices right though 😋. Anyways yeah a shame that the cons of their services come from simple basic standards that should not need to exist in the first place. Especially a hotel with that history and experiences, they should handle exclusivity better. If even so the instagrammers are guests as well, this is a classic examples of , "money cant buy class". They can be more firm on their hotel regulations and etiquettes. I enjoyed their high tea spread in the Tiffin Room from many years ago. However I would say theres better and hope they have improved now.
