    The company Chanel was built by a person who was more about marketing than anything else. She used designs that others created while taking credit for creating them and had little interest in keeping in line with fashion of the time. She became both rich and famous for it, so it's not surprising to me that the company continues pretend that they are something that they aren't. I don't ignore that the company has created some good products, but it still fills the minds of those who don't pay attention with bragadocious half truths about itself, its products and its history.

Finally, qudos to you for highlighting the glaring deficiencies in that interview with incredible grace and panache. Your sense of humour is not lost on me.👌🏾

    To be honest, I stopped buying Chanel a while ago because I thought it was getting too extortionate. I wanted an alternative to Hermes and then I found your channel and through it I discovered Joseph Duclos! Thank you so much! I’m definitely going to by one for my Beauty room! 11:29 They do not tailor the communication style because they don’t communicate. Chanel beauty has blown up and they aren’t communicating launches. Marketing is coming out after launches. We have allowed companies to hide behind “rising prices” of their raw materials. It’s rhetoric not fact. They are raising prices because demand is high from the influencer segment. Or in order words, because they can.

    • @SoAnesu
      @SoAnesu  Před 3 měsíci +3

    Wonderful content as always. Stopped buying anything Chanel in 2019. Have been following the thousands of reports online about the poor quality control and materials and just think the quality that stands out most about Chanel at the moment is, as Leena put it - the audacity.

    Wow, Anesu! I guess you are right in that we viewers love to be mean and critical, because I was silently cheering you on to "have at em", though I definitely don't have a mean heart 😭 I should've known you would tackle this review with logic and balance. You were very gracious, but still hit on their core issues. I don't really have a dog in this race as I won't buy Chanel in the future, but as someone with a strong moral compass and sense of what is fair/just, it just irks me that they believe they can continue to raise prices into oblivion without having to answer for their quality issues... regardless of their strong brand equity. I do think this brand equity has been eroding, but who knows if it will be enough to teach the big guns of Chanel their overdue lessons. The comments that I read were absolutely brutal and mostly fair. I had the exact same thought about her reference to the value of audacity... the irony! How about the audacity (and arrogance) of the management to underestimate the negative tide against Chanel and continue down this path of greed? What also struck me was her commentary on empowering women. While business is business, this ethos rings hollow to me when you consider how many hard-working women can truly afford a Classic Flap handbag in 2024, what level of income is required even to save for one over a reasonable amount of time? The prices are insulting. Nair is just a mouthpiece for the owners, and I suppose doing what most of us would do in her situation... but my goodness, she actually referred to the Chanel goods as being handmade. How did she think people wouldn't catch that? Could've been only referring to couture, but she didn't clarify. Also the tired excuse of inflation... it's just rhetoric and I think most of us know the cost to make any leather handbag (even factoring in inflation) is going to be well well below USD 10K. The interviewer was a serious disappointment. I could go on but should not 😱 Thank you so much for the shout out and making the video 💕 I do think that the comments (even under other CZcams videos pertaining to this interview) will assist you in taking the temperature of the consumers on price increases. It's not looking pretty 🤷🏻‍♀ XO

      Hey Abby!
      My issue with the comments were some were just plain mean and personal absolutely nothing constructive in them. I have an issue with that she is merely the owner’s mouthpiece but some were valid.
      I think it’s important to be balanced not sure I get it right all the time but important nonetheless.
      I like “I don’t really have a dog in this race” be warned it will be used on So Anesu at some point I like it! Agreed we need to speak up more or else they will continue unchecked.
      The empowering women was absolute PR drivel!
      Handmade I think she was referring to couture but it wasn’t clear at all.
      We need to speak up more.
      The comments under super Dacob’s video 🤣 Leena is paid enough for it not to hurt.

      @@SoAnesu Hi Anesu! You have my blessing to use that saying and I will look forward to it 😆It did feel like so much of her commentary was PR talking points, or the spin you would get if you complained to HR at your company, like talking around the elephant in the room. With my statement about her being the owners' mouthpiece, I was trying to cut her some slack. As in, my thoughts/comments are directed at top level management and not just her. But still it could've been handled so differently even with her obviously being an advocate for the company. "Leena is paid enough for it not to hurt" 💕So true. I am a very empathetic person but when you are at a certain level of prestige and getting paid that much 🤷🏻‍♀ Also I do like that you try to be fair/balanced. I think that people are just so fed up with these price increases that they respond out of emotion. BTW, we truly don't need Chanel anymore anyway because there is Joseph Duclos. Compare the arrogance, poor quality, and smoke/mirrors of Chanel to the high quality/craftsmanship, innovation and transparency encouraged by Ramesh Nair (e.g., letting you into their press days) 💜

    • @SoAnesu
      @SoAnesu  Před 3 měsíci

      @abbycatherine8135 the interview could have been handled so differently but Chanel chose to make it all about themselves when they could have changed the quality narrative! Let’s what this space and see if they try and turn things around.

    Their makeup is not as good anymore either. I saw a video of a woman that said she’s bought their foundation for years and only had to replace them like once a year and they expired around one year. Now they only last about six months. The smell is different too. I will never buy anything from them again. Not even pre owned or a lipstick. Quality is down in everything of theirs.

      Consumers want less toxic preservatives, so cosmetics don’t last as long. Improved packaging with closed pumps keeps bacteria out allowing cremes to last longer.

    Thanks for your analysis and opinion of this interview.
    Tbh I don't have the budget for Chanel, and the classic flap isnt ever going to be my style (I prefer the 2.55 reissue, for a number of reasons, but again its fantasy lifestyle). But if I did have the budget and lifestyle, I'm not sure I'd want to part with my money for a Chanel bag - the lowering of quality and the rising of prices smacks of a company who are playing us for fools. This interview seems to reinforce my opinion.

    Thanks to CZcams reviewers of lux brands Chanel and LV have been shown to be underperforming in quality for the price point while milking their heritage. It's a shame, but throught the horrible experiences of others, while I was doing my research, they were kicked off my list for desirable handbags. Unless you go VINTAGE it's just not what it use to be and that's not good enough for my wallet to open.
    This is why your channel is a MUST for those who respect their finances and their ethos to purchase fewer but better quality items.

    Good Morning Anesu, I am glad to hear your opinion on the interview as well. I was one of the first to comment so much that event another CZcamsr read my comment but I just want to add that her being a woman and of color doesn’t tell me much. I have worked in different industries and my worst bosses were does who biological and or physically looked like me. Furthermore, tons of women didn’t vote for H. Clinton so it’s just to point out that those cards are hard to play. I still think that after paying for so much regardless of your generation you want quality…A word she used only once. Italian and French companies are leaving because of high taxation and Chanel is not an exception even if privately own. Money talks either way, them looking for a tax heaven and us looking for products that speak to us. Thanks for this review.

      Good morning.
      It’s not only women who buy their bags.
      In the times we are living brands need to be seen to be fair to both sexes.
      Chanel no doubt have some of the best tax structurers who would have advised the London move a few years ago.

    When you consider the current consumer sentiment on Chanel's handbag quality and price increases, which is all over social media - makes you think they are really out of touch, or are just tone-deaf and think that the ultra luxury clientele will ultimately keep them on their pedestal. It seems like someone at Chanel would've foreseen that this interview would not sit well with the public, result in a backlash.

    Chanel or a person selling biscuits they bake at home, no person or company has to explain their prices. Buying the biscuit or bag is not an entitlement or compulsory in a market economy. If the biscuit or bay is not to one's liking, there are many other choices out there. No seller has to explain the line by line of their product specification sheet. Having worked in product development & production for 30 years, I find the talk of what a product costs by consumers so offensive.

    • @SoAnesu
      @SoAnesu  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Unfortunately in this day and age you do have to explain your prices to an extent. You cannot charge thousands for a bag and not tell the consumer what they are paying for. It’s not your money to make that call. The market is now confidently demanding more information and getting it from many brands and if you don’t participate as a brand you get left behind. Simple.
