Canon Masterclass
Great stuff Rubidium. I share a lot of the same feelings on the c70. Always enjoyed watching your c200 content, and I’ve been enjoying your c70 content as well. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome. I've had mine for around the same time period and totally agree. Something that would be great to see is a video about using false color and zebras when shooting CLog 2. Its very confusing figuring out how to nail exposure with these tools in CLog2 compared to Rec709 and has led me to some disastrous footage and very confusing tests. Keep up the great videos!
Made a video talking about how I expose CLOG2, it was pretty tricky learning how to expose at first but I’m happy with my results now
Nice review. Only thing I would say is the R5 image is much much worse than the c70. The dynamic Range and colour rendition feels is incomparable. I bought one and then sent it back for a c70.
I’ll wait for the C90
Love your channel! Just picked up a used c200b
Nice!! For the right price its still a killer image.
Beautiful Presentation! Can't wait to see more videos from it!🔥
Thanks for that - your use case helped us decide to add the C70 to our C200s and EOS R.
Haven't found much info on using it with the Ninja V though.
Watching 9 months later and RAW is coming…! Thoughts now?
I love so much about the C70. The form factor is weird, but I like that it's still smaller than the C300. It means I can bring a cinema camera around without feeling like I'm bringing a cinema rig around because that's just what it is when you bring a C300 anywhere. I do agree that it needs RAW, but they didn't want to cannibalize their own market. Why would you get a C300 MkIII if the C70 did everything it does minus basically bigger body, better screen, SDI and full XLR? And for a lot of people those don't matter with the rise of run-and-gun filmmaking.
Great review! How do you load your own LUTs? I can't seem to find any info online nor a tutorial on how to do so. It'd be so great to shoot and view my go-to LUT directly on camera. Cheers :)
Great idea for a tutorial!
@@Crimsonengine when will your tutorial on "How To Load LUTs to your Canon EOS C70" be available? I need it!!
wait for the R5c!
Just purchased mine today... excited to mess around with it.. i'm wondering how the cheap 16mm f/2.8 will be on it
without seeing the C70 I shared all your concerns - thanks for the review
Really considering upgrading to this from my trusty GH5 I've had for way too long. Great review!!
I just have, Armin. I'd highly recommend doing so too if you're hitting the outer edges of what the GH5 is capable of. 4K 120p; 16 stops of dynamic range (if you actually need this, for example), built in NDs... everything about this camera is perfect... the screen could be a little more robust, but otherwise, for me, personally, it's the perfect camera.
Me too - we should form a club! I loved the image I got from my GH5, but I think the autofocus on the C70, the NDs, the video centric menus made it a really worthwhile upgrade. It just seems easier to get a great image with the C70.
@@scottgmaclean Exactly, also like the ability to just run and gun without a ton of rigging. Looks really nice for documentary work which is what I do mostly
Great video. I noticed that you don't use an microphone. Where do you rig a shotgun mic if you're using the handle with monitor?
Nice camera and thanks for the review, but I just checked the price on Canon BP60 batteries and a charger. They must be kidding?
Hi there, Rubidium. Your equipment list states that you’re using 512 GB CFast (Prograde) on your C70… is it actually 512 SD (prograde?)
Rubidium, any chance of doing a comparison of the C70 and the Panasonic S1H?
May I ask where did you get the top handle? It looks really beautiful and blended nicely on c70. Thanks.
Small rig!
@@Crimsonengine thank you I’ll look into it. :)
@@Crimsonengine How do I color grade clog 2 to make my videos look like yours? Mine is extremely flat, unsharp, even with luts.
Why does everyone say an extra stop of light when they mean an extra step of light?
Stopping down light means less light.
It depends on how its used. Besides, you wouldn't want to make things more complicated, would you?
I’m a dedicated Canon user as well and when the C70 first came out, I was very keen on getting one. But as more reviews came through, the less attractive the camera became... I have even wondered if the R5 didn’t have overheating issues, would there still be a large enough market for this camera? Also, the offering from SONY’s side, the FX6 and even the FX3, almost seems to crush the competition, with the only downside having slightly less dynamic range. Every other bit of the image quality looks on par and of course the Sony’s are natively full frame, which is a big plus. Something much better for video on the RF mount must be due to come out soon, as the C70 just seems to be disappointing after a long run, and like you said, doesn’t hold up to its value when comparing to the likes of the R5.
I purchased the C70 after owning 2 R5’s, but I wonder if I would still purchase it after seeing what the R5C will be. Hmm... fingers crossed for built in ND’s.
I just wish the autofocus was the same as the R5’s. It’s good with a good amount of light, but no where near what the R5 can do.
Hey! I was just curious how you feel about the C70 4 months later? Do you still prefer the R5? How do they compare in image quality? I appreciate it 😊 thanks!
@@JordynDunseathI sold mine and glad I did honestly. It’s a beast of a camera, but no raw is an issue since it’s a cinema camera imo. Autofocus lacked a lot compared to the R5 and the C70 wasn’t the greatest with slow motion. Built in ND’s, audio features, 180 shutter angle, and DGO is where I will miss the C70. More things will be missed, but those are the main ones.
The R5 overall looked the best to me and was more reliable with the autofocus. I also seemed to always like the R5 look more so, or less it was a high dynamic range backlit scene.
I would not buy the C70 again, or less it got RAW. Even then I would want a full frame option. Just going to wait for the next level of RF Cinema Cams.
Hi, did you use the C70 to make this video?
Which nato rail/screw did you use for the top handle?
Yes! I would love to know what NATO rail he's using here!
Hi Rubidium. Is there a way to download files from C70 to computer via usb without pulling the card? With my old Canons like the 80D you could use the EOS utility. Anything like that here? It's a time saver in a studio situation, but maybe not an option in the cinema line? Cheers.
Great informative video! I’m looking to getting the C70 or the C300 mkiii. I like the compact build of the C70, but the screen issues has me leaning towards the C300 for a proven build and the raw capabilities. But we shall see ☺️ Thanks again for the informative video 💯
I'd say they're 2 different tools. C70 is very much a run-and-gun cinema camera that can do everything else great. C300 is a full cinema camera that can do run-and-gun ok. So if you see yourself wanting the versatility that comes with the C70 size then go C70. If you need the full sized XLR, SDI, full rig mounting options, bigger body, RAW, and don't see yourself doing run-and-gun without a steadicam rig or bigger gimbal like a Movi Pro or Ronin 2 then C300 is the camera. I'll say this after owning the C70 for a few weeks, it feels like it's not meant to be rigged out completely every day like what Rubidium was saying. It truly feels like this is a camera for people who go out and shoot rather than prep a full location space for a shoot. Not saying that it can't be used as an A cam because the image is beautiful, but if you're doing a lot of full-day shoots with prep and gear in an enclosed on-location set then the C300 makes sense since you'll have time and space to rig it.
@@CinemaSteve thanks for your expertise! You make some great points regarding the purpose between both cameras! Helps me narrow down my need moving forward ☺️
Keep C200 or change it to C70. Not an easy choice.
No option for viewfinder...
The C70 is the same weight as the C200. Placebo.
why to get this when you can get Panasonic S1....5,9k 10 bit.....cinema 4k ....anamorphic ..... same shape but smaller....Prores Raw to ninja v ...Autofocus suck most of the time. >But I did not hear a lot good about AF on c70 either. Almost 3x for price of C70.
Well, the AF of the C line is not as good as the one you can find on the R5 or a7siii but it's still very good and reliable, way better than the one on the Pana (barely usable) but apart from that: better IQ, better colours, way better dynamic range, 4k 60 without crop, 4k 120, great audio preamp with 4 channels recorded simultaneously, 10 stop of ND filters, timecode, the same sensor of 12.000 camera. I my opinion there are plenty of reasons.
@@andreaadriani5658 you sure better Dynamic range? Yes 4k 60 is cropped(i can live with that)....i shoot slowmo very rarely ....colour is also subjective....I shoot 95% in V log so I color grade how I like.... you would not guess what is what if it is two diferent composition.... probably when you put them next to each other than yes.... to me still not worth money extra....yes S1 has just two xlrs onlyoptional.....this is just my opinion, obviously you have yours and that is ok.
@@ondrejjanoska660 absolutely, it wasn’t meant to be a criticism :) The S1 is a fantastic camera in my opinion, even better considering the price. What I was trying to say is that adding all this technology to a camera (mostly NDs, preamp and the sensor of the c300 mkiii) is raising the costs considerably justifying the price and for people who need all this stuff this camera is actually a good deal. I agree though that not adding the raw capabilities (at least externally) to a 5000 camera is the classical Canon dumb decision. For the DR the c70 is a monster though.
The AF on the C70 when compared to an R5 isn't great. The AF on the C70 is amazing when compared to an S1/S1H 😂 I've used all 3 cameras and the S1 is light years behind the Canons for AF.
I'm picking up the C70 as my first camera to start a CZcams channel. I'll also check out your course.
Buy an m50 and invest in skills instead.
6k for a startup youtube channel is a bit much. M50, and some good lighting and audio equipment would be a better investment. Just a thought. Good luck..
I have one observation be aware of you arms too much movement in your presentation. You probably need to clasp your hands down below the camera… and move your arms less it’s distracting… I promise I’m not being horrid just wanted to make the point..
1. No raw simply a deal breaker. 2. Why are you restarting your c200 to go from 60p 4k raw to 120p HD slo mo - - very fast once you program it in?
How do you program it in? Is there a way to quick toggle?
@@photographyRI yes. You can program many of the buttons. It takes two button presses I think.
I've used both cameras, and I'll be honest, I didn't find myself missing the RAW from the C200 while grading the C70 footage. In CLOG 3, it almost felt like I was grading RAW (key word: almost).
