    06:52 - Epilogue
Anybody can make a house. Especially if this house is made using mud. Biju Bhaskar who founded Thanal has been propagating this message for over a decade. His students include architects and people without formal training in architecture. Biju teaches his students about different techniques for how these mud structures are made. So we sat down with the man himself, Biju Bhaskar to understand this popular quote: "Anybody can make a mud house"
Biju Bhaskar and Thannal’s mission is to make mud buildings everybody’s business. To make traditional techniques available and accessible for all. To provide the knowledge, resources and confidence to people who want to move back into breathable homes. And they are trying to do it without forcing people to spend tons of money. There are numerous such examples of quality affordable mud houses that Thanal help build.

This is what I call sustainable development. You don't have to bleed your pockets to find a new material and green-wash it. This is it...this is it.👍

best way is the old way. buy property then build one room for shelter, get married then another room when you need it. if you have kids then build another room. etc

I guess only North K'taka differs immensely from its own Southern K'taka & the rest of South Ind. We usually go with stone houses & limestone and then rely on Shabhad kallu or perci for our roofing (lay them on top on one another to form a flattened triangular arch). interestingly there's a town in Italy that has similar building materials but they construct their houses in cylindrical shapes & their roofs take into a cone form.

    Good.
But it's not much popular because difficult to get a person to organise it as most people doesn't entertain mud houses.
I tried my way but nobody support me. I tried to get a contractor for it but doesn't find such firms and which I found are costlier than concrete house.
So if you really want to make it popular start a contract firm or entertain those who are ready for that.
As an expat I failed to grab a mud house and finished concrete house.
I request you to start or support contractor

They may look cool and eco friendly but do you really think this is sustainable in the urban environment...

Very useful information & beautiful sight... My grandparents old house was like this. Many South Indian houses are still like this as I hv seen & stay here & ppl prefer to keep so due to the house's natural cooling method. In North also they have... What a beautiful stay experience it is... Concrete buildings are not eco friendly so it's better to enrich & support mud house which has many more things than concrete houses, to Offer...!!! 🟢💚💚💚

Sir, kindly note that this is their only means of sustaining themselves through the humungous amount of efforts they are putting in to creating awareness about natural building. They do not take on full time projects but only this and great amount of testing ans trials before sharing their learnings. People take loans to build cement homes that serve them 50 off years, or a distance education in an unknown college in the US just for the tag, but Thannals course is a lifetime investment which will make any common person build by themselves and make you a better person in the process.
We must honour such institutions and not hold on to the 'money' part. 🙏
