There is 100% a difference in temperature in the top and the bottom of the deepfryer. It probably won't be significant but its worth the shot.

Deep fryer heating element still on the bottom. If it's something light like chicken or French fries, that could float, they're no problems. That steak on the other hand, looks heavy and will submerged to the bottom on the heating element. The fryer basket also act as extra heating

Well he's right, you need to rub some rock salt and pepper into the steak before you cook it to maximize it's flavour.
@@Alkaris if you season before you deep fry it the flavour just comes off into the oil and your steak just taste plain again...that's why at least if you put a dry rub on the steak and BBQ it then it will taste better plus you get some smokey flavour from the BBQ

We dropped the steak he sent back in the deep fried for a few minutes. He told our waitress "about time."

My family are from Scotland, they go to the local fish and chip shop every Saturday and get a deep fried, battered steak followed by a deep fried mars bar, washed down with my favourite drink Irn Bru. Try frying it in duck fat, the best steak I ever had was in Toulon where the steak was grilled over a wood fire, but was rested in a bowl of just barely melted duck fat. It was so insanely good. P.S. the potato fries served with it were also fried in duck fat.
