Had a problem on a crown Vic where the blend door actuator would just spin randomly when it wanted to. Wasn’t fun having no heat in the middle of winter. Dealer wanted over 900 to pull dashboard and replace actuator. I went under the glovebox and when the actuator finally rotated to the full hot side I locked it in place with needle nose vice grips. Got me through the winter !

Thank you for a great video and I was hoping you could answer a question as I "think" this is my issue. I have a 2012 Ford Mustang Convertable V6 with manual temp control. The issue is getting the heat to come on. When I switch from cold to hot, most times, I get nothing. So what is do is go to the panel and press cold to hot, hot to cold, cold to hot - and do this multiple times until eventually (hopefully) the heat comes on. I believe it is one of these actuators - specifically the one per your video in the very back of the 3 you show on the glove box side. I just want a bit of confirmation this is my issue before I proceed with the repair. Thank you in advance for your help as well as thank you for such great videos. PS: I am not hearing any clicking doing what you suggested. I only know that if I play with the cold/heat setting eventually I can get the heat to come on.

Good tip about ordering a replacement from Ford. The aftermarket actuators are hot trash, especially the Dormans (nog surprise there). I found that out the hard way. As bad as the originals are, the factory ones are still better then aftermarket.

I had the same problem with my 2008 ford Taurus. I told the dealer I needed the blend door actuator and they insisted that there was only one part number listed, I took the one they said was the one and nope it was wrong. Had to remove it and bring it with me to prove there was another one. From the part number on it they were able to order me the right one.

Finally they provide decent access to these for replacement. Last one I had a problem with was my 95 Lincoln Towncar Signature with the digital hvac system. That one defaulted to full hot in the summer, and the re-cal on it was pushing a series of buttons on the control head only got it working once after the initial failure. That job was very expensive.

Maybe manually try and move the blend door so to make sure there is no binding as that could potentially burn up another actuator. It may be a problem like the Impala's but I still always check.

Great video! 2013 Boss 302 Laguna Seca with 1700 miles... I have a knock/tap from the engine during warm up... any ideas/thoughts? I know the coyote engine has has this noise for some time.. any definite fix?

With only 1700 miles, I imagine engine doesn't get lubricated near enough. Nice car though. Its called a Roadrunner engine but in reality, the regular GTs should be called Roadrunners and the Boss 302s should be called coyotes (because in real life, coyotes are faster than roadrunners).

Nice video, would a bad actuator affect the AC and prevent the air to come out cold. I might get a 2010 Mustang and it has the same noise and it doesn't blow cold air, would that be the problem or something else might be the issue.

I have an 07 GT and driver's side started throwing warmer air than passenger side. I have a temp gun and its about 10° warmer. I replaced the actuator behind cluster which was insanely difficult to get to. I dont have any ticking noises. In 05-09 there's no dual climate so im clueless why one side would throw different temps. Any help or suggestions? I would truly appreciate it 🙏

@@dTamerSam Yea it was low on refrigerant. I tried the AC pro n fixed it for 8 months. Now that its blazing hot in Texas and have AC full blast it happened again recently. That makes me believe that its prbly some type of a small AC leak

On the topic of mustangs. My dad had had 3 mustangs. A 2009, 2012, and 2016 all GT's. The 12 and 16 both had the ac compressors go out at 30k ish miles. Is there more to this or is my dad just unlucky?😂 it was still under warranty both times.
He also just purchased a 2018 limited with the 3.5 Ecoboost and the dealership is going to be replacing the vct, it had a diesel like startup sound for the first few seconds and goes away. It is at like 59,100 miles so we are barely in the power train warranty.

Maybe if only driven in the summer, the a/c isnt getting lubricated enough with running the compressor (a/c & defrost in winter?) Ive had no problems and my car is going on 7 years running ('14 made in 2013).
