What's your favorite Stephen King miniseries?
Great list. Did you see The Outsider?
@@jamesthornton9333 yes, and I think it was good! I didn’t include it on my list because it was renewed for a second season (before being cancelled)
The original The Stand, followed closely by the original Salems Lot.
@@evildeadron great choices!
@@mandysmorgueofhorror I'm usually not a fan of remakes of original King miniseries / movies, but as much as I love The Langoliers (for nostalgia reasons) I think it's probably the one that would benefit the most from a modern day remake.
I know it doesn't count as a miniseries but I loved Kingdom Hospital. So weird and great performances and music. Hope you have fun with it.
I'm glad you put Storm of the Century as number one.I loved Rose Red too.
They’re both so good!
I'm little teapot, short and stout... 😃 I'm so happy with your placement of Storm of the Century, it's my favorite too. Love the casting (Colm Feore is simply epic ), the isolated setting, and just the whole dilemma. What the hell would I do in that situation? It's so so so good!
I have such a nostalgic love for several of these- The Stand (the older one) The Langoliers, It - they all take me back to my younger years when I was a nerdy little horror-girlie in a small town in Sweden, always on the lookout for my next horror fix.
I also really need to re-watch several of these - The Shining especially. I remember liking that one a lot.
Really enjoyed this video, it was such a great watch!
Thank you! Omg I will never hear I’m a little teapot the same way again
I was pleased to see how high up the list you placed the 2004 "Salem's Lot" miniseries. Now, the first from 1978 will always be the gold standard (simply because it has been the fuel of lifelong, psychologically scarring nightmares for me), but I enjoyed the remake. I watched it and appreciated it on its own merits, and apparently you did as well. Well done.
The og will always be my preferred, but yeah the 2004 is so fun!
I saw Rose Red when I was way too young and it was absolutely terrifying, I'm always surprised it doesn't get more love!
I think now that it’s on Hulu more people have access to it and the love will grow!
Just saw that the new Salem's Lot film is going straight to MAX in Q4 2024. Makes me wish it was a series now. I'd love a new direct page-for-page adaptation! But King did say he saw the film and thought it was good, so hopes are still high. The original miniseries is still my favorite.
Thanks, Mandy. Watching Storm of the Century now. As another person said, quite nostalgic. Part of me misses the days of flannel wear.
Horror tales in a wintery setting just hit different for me.
Recently rewatched Storm of the Century with my son and its still to this day one of the best mini series of any genre in my opinion,
Tim Daily's performance was terrific.
Phenomenal upload Mandy.
Rose red and salem's lot are my favorites!
The original Salem's Lot would be a super easy win on my list. I saw it when it originally aired and it's been a favorite of mine ever since.
👹🐵👹
Golden Years? Yeah, even I didn’t make it through that one. As a King 80’s veteran you go girl. Respect. 🎉😂
I’ve just bought a copy of Nightmares & dreamscapes on eBay after watching this video, never seen it and looks good!! 100% agree on Storm Of The Century at no.1, fantastic
Hope you enjoy it!
I gathered around with my siblings as a kid and watched The Stand TV show. I was pretty young but my parents already had let me watch a lot of horror. We were really into it, talking about it and anticipating the next episode. I still need to watch the newer version!
Such a cool memory to have!
The 1994 version of The Stand did not air without commercials. It aired in four 2 hour episodes (approximately 90 minutes of the show with 30 minutes of commercials per episode).
Ah ok thanks for the clarification
Congratulations Mandy! for the such excellent and complete work, about Stephen`s series. And I agree... until present day, I shudder when remember, the vampire boy, flying and calling to his friend through the window. In Salem`s lot. 🧛♂
love the list!
I had no idea the original Salem's Lot was a mini series, that's so cool. Digging your rankings, there's a lot on here I haven't seen but I always enjoy Rose Red and the 2004 Salem's Lot. I watched Storm of The Century for the first time towards the end of last year too.
Would be interested in if you did a ranking of Stephen King's film adaptions too :)
I’d love to do a ranking of all his films! It will take me a while though 😅😂
❤this video. Cat's Eye is one of the first Stephen King movies that I watched !
These mini series are a joy to watch, the early ones are such nostalgia bombs !
Storm of the Century ans Rose Red are my faves, ever seen the prequel The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer ? Is also directed by Craig R. Baxley
I’ve been meaning to check out the prequel, but I fear it won’t have the same feel for me as Rose Red. It’s the characters I love most. I need to revisit Cat’s Eye!
"Crouch End" was my favorite of N&D! King does Lovecraft well!
Oooh I'm so glad you did this!! Not every series was a hit, but it was alway so much fun. I'm glad I was around for it! 😄My favorites were IT (1990), The Langoliers, The Tommyknockers (which ended up being way better than the book, imo), and The Stand (1994).
During this watch/rewatch I was so shocked by how much I loved The Tommyknockers!
@@mandysmorgueofhorror Fun fact, The Stanley Hotel has the original The Shining playing on a loop on a hotel channel. It's a blast to stay there. I was not a fan of The Shining remake when it came out. I'm going to give it another chance, though.
@@opheliasfall that’s so cool!
I actually like all of these as well. To be honest, my ranking would essentially be the same, I think your assessments were fair. Glad to see someone else really enjoys Rose Red and Storm of the Century! I love that the ending to SOTC is definitely not happy but it is definitive. "Born in sin, come right in!"
Great video, yeah every one of these is pretty nostalgic it was a Big Deal when they premiered these on TV. Desperation was my favorite as a kid(just came out at a fun time in childhood) I remember it was on the cover of the First Angora magazine I ever bought.
I don't remember much about King's version of The Kingdom, but Lars Von Trier's series is 100% worth checking out. Very creepy and eventually completely bonkers.
I need to watch both!
When Harold crashes off the road running into vampire face Walkin' Dude was awesome. The actual transformation....more on the level of the It spider form or Langoliers
Mandy! Your hair looks so good in this video! 🤎🧡
Thank you! One of the rare occasions where my blowout turned out how I wanted lol
Only 3? SO many other great ones! My favorite is the 1994 version of The Stand! Rose Red was pretty great too! The Langoliers was a little bit cheesey and over-the-top at times but is still pretty good!
Also, I bought Kingdom hospital on DVD as well I enjoyed all the Stephen king well almost all the Stephen King miniseries
Haha referring to Straker as Stoker, that was an interesting Freudian slip.
@@Turtle152 did I say his name wrong in this? Oh man 😅😂
lisey's story, bag of bones, and desperation are underrated novels. i dug the hell out of all of them.
I never finished Desperation, but I liked what I had read
I liked Golden Years and (God help me) Tommyknockers! Yes they were a tad boring but I was a diehard!
This was grear! Thank you!
I remember watch It (1990) TV miniseries in ABC channel with my cousin's as kid's back then
I just ordered golden years on dvd but never watched it. But all so just ordered Trucks. Look forward to watching GY.
I'm also a sucker for the early 2000's look which I have gotten a lot of that when going through shows over the last few years since I've basically been catching up on shows mainly from the early 2000's
It’s such a comforting aesthetic for me!
The original Stephen King The Stand that aired on ABC in 1994 did air commercials during the run of the mini series
Thanks for clarifying- someone else pointed that out to me. I’m not sure where I got that info lol
I liked the Stand (2020), and it compares fine to the book. I recently read the book. I don’t understand why people hated it so much. It does jump the outbreak which maybe is why they hated it? Idk
I love the Shining miniseries! It’s so much closer to the book.
Salem's Lot and 11/22/63 are probably the most effective and well constructed...however, the ones I return to most are the orig. The Stand, and IT - they are pure comfort to me, and never fail to cheer me up.
I really wanted The Shining to be good, because I think King has legitimate complaints about the film...unfortunately I do think that it was badly botched, and that we haven't had a good representation of King's book as yet. Before the fan boys come at me I like the film, it just isn't King's book, and I'd like to see a well crafted version of that too.
Wow , I didn’t even know some of these mini series existed! I have to say in an earlier video you mentioned Storm of the Century and I did watch it. It was great. I used to think the original It was not scary when I was younger and thought if they made it over it could be scary. Well they did and I loved it but the original mini series is so good too. I think Salem’s Lot is my favorite. I also can’t believe it was made for tv. It’s pretty scary for tv. Love your list but can’t find some of these to watch 😢
Some of them - like The Shining miniseries - I had to buy the dvd on eBay. I know Storm of the Century, Rose Red, and 11.22.63 are on Hulu. I found Desperation, The Stand and The Langoliers on CZcams. I also rented some on Prime and Vudu!
@@mandysmorgueofhorror awww, thank you! That’s super helpful ❤️
storm of the century yeaaahhhh!
Love the year round spooky content that you provide. I grew up with the Stephen King Miniseries shows and always loved waiting for them when they were shown on tv. I see you didnt bring it up and Ive found it hard to find but what did you think of the Kingdom Hospital series? I know it fell in between the tv and miniseries gap but its still one of my favorites that I wish would come to streaming one day. Hope everyone is doing well and stays safe.
“Let’s talk, you and I. Let’s talk about fear.” - Stephen King, “Night Shift” 👻
I mentioned it at the end, but I still haven’t watched Kingdom Hospital. I actually just bought a copy on eBay and I’m waiting for it to arrive. I can’t wait to watch it!
@@mandysmorgueofhorror Thank you for the reply. Sorry about before, I was commenting while watching earlier. I hope you enjoy the series, its a hidden gem for sure. Have fun and cant wait for more content.
Mandy my opinion about the Shining is even though The mini series was exactly like King’s book I still like The movie better because the way Kubrick directed it. They’re both good but I just tell people when it comes to The Shining there’s 2 different versions, there’s Stephen King’s Shining and there’s Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. 📕🎥
I did like the "Salem's Lot" remake! Love Rob Lowe in anything!
Little bit upset that you didn’t mention kingdom hospital but I’ll get over it. I’ll get over it.
I think I did mention it! I didn’t include it in my list because it was a show meant to have multiple seasons. I actually got it on dvd and am watching it now!
@@mandysmorgueofhorror I do apologize I actually should not have typed this down. I heard the last part of your video again I apologize and that’s pretty cool that you got the DVDs.
@@hero92694able no worries! The show is pretty fun
@@mandysmorgueofhorror I like Anubis the little girl calls him antibus I thought that was funny. He says can you do me a solid I do you a solid that’s how it works. I remember that line. I watched it during the late 2000s or maybe it was the middle
I have to watch that version of the shining
Yes 🙌🏻 I love it so much
Fantastic ranking of the King TV series and loved your reasoning . I thought Rose Red was dull , Bag of Bones is a great novel with a surprising character death but a terrible mini series and Storm of the Century would have been number 5 for me ( 1. Salem's Lot , 2. The Stand 3. 11/22/63 4. The Shining ) . Interested in seeing what you think of Kingdom Hospital , I liked the weird intro with the King connection . 🍻 Tom
Honestly, my top 5 was so hard!
@@mandysmorgueofhorror Yeah , I find it changes depending on my mood . For some reason , IT didn't make my top 5 today .
Mick Garris. Every time I hear that name I shudder. What a hack.
It's sad because the novel of "Bag of Bones" is Excellent! It's actually one of my favorites, and I've read All of Stephen King's books. I wish they could've figured out a way for the book to be conveyed on the screen. Also, Pierce Bronson was miscast (though he's a great actor, he just wasn't the right man to play that character).
There’s definitely an interesting story there…it just got lost in the craziness
Kingdom hospital counts right? I adore that series.. As for rose red, I stayed up late on school days to watch it on abc with chicky milk, keep in it classy of course. I've not heard of a few of these and ima give em a go. Much obliged you facinateing human.
According to my criteria (focusing on series meant to be limited), it does not count. It was intended to have multiple seasons. I just ordered my copy on eBay and am waiting for it to arrive. Can’t wait to finally watch it!
@@mandysmorgueofhorror fair enough. I'm interested on your perspective once watched, I'm stoked you own it, I hope you enjoy your time with it.
Anyone else remember Golden Years? I think 1991? Lesser known King miniseries.
I mentioned it in the video!
Where did you watch the 1997 The Shining? I can’t find it anywhere!
I had to buy a copy on eBay!
But I did enjoy storm of the century in fact, I bought it
I’ve seen all of these except your number 1, Storm of the Century. Which I now have to watch immediately! I want to show some love for The Langoliers 😆, that’s one of my favourites. I enjoy most of these and revisit them every so often, I’m a nostalgia whore. Own most of them on Blu-ray or DVD.
Ohh yes, I hope you check it out and love it!
Had a theatrical release
"The Stand" 1994 definitely has flaws but imho the new one is all flaws! Not a big Whoopi fan anyway but 1994 Mother Abigail is the GOAT to me! That being said
I'd still rewatch the new one but only if I had to! I mean I was in love with Molly Ringwald! 😂
The Stand (1994) is my favorite miniseries. The unabridged version of the novel is my favorite book of all time,.
I looked forward to the 2020 remake, only to be majorly disappointed.
I still would love to see a live action version of The Long Walk . Be it a movie, or mini series
Bag of Bones
has plenty of Pierce Brosnan pain face 😬
Rose Red, nod to Shirley Jackson
Your comments about violence I think is shaded by today's oversensitive views, back in the 90s people could police themselves, if you didn't like something you simply didn't watch. I hate today's sanitized shows.... As for series... I hated the new Stand, it was a piece of crap. They underused Skarsgård, his last scene was the best part and shows how good it could of been. Watch the original miniseries, you'll see what you missed in it and also the time line makes sense.
Liseys Story was boring. Tommyknockers and Lagoilers were just fun.
The newer version of Salems Lot was okay. I loved It, it's so good. The newer Shining was very underrated, I loved it. I've watched Storm of the Century multiple times it's very good. I never finished Dome I couldn't get into it. I can't go into all but Rose Red is one of my top series, I warch it probably twice a year. Salem's Lot is my favorite of all... I still hate looking out the window.
You didn't mention SKs version of Kingdom Hospital, probably bc it's not his original work.... But the series is absolutely fantastic.... If you ever find it WATCH IT.
My *1 is the original Salem's Lot. Oddly compared to yours, Storm of the Century is my least favorite.
Ohhh so interesting! Love that.
Marg Helen Burger,?, movie Species
lol did I say her name wrong? It’s hard to pronounce 😅
Wandered if I did
kingdom hospital is superior
I’m excited to check it out!
You don't read much, do you?
I do! I actually just finished reading Whalefall by Brian Krause - so good. You should check it out if you haven’t yet!
