  • Hello everyone! Now that we've got a hold of the second demo of Touhou 17.5, I couldn't just stay put and I decided to put together a video to explain my thoughts on the game! Small changes can go a long way for sure...
    Special Thanks to Quarium for the new Iku portraits: / quariumarts
    Hope you will enjoy the video as much as I did while making it! #touhou #東方 #touhou175
    See you next time everybody!

    Fun fact about this video, it is the one that took the least time to do overall. Taking 6 days from scriptwriting to publishing.
    It was a small challenge I wanted to impose on myself but I tried to make it look like the other videos you may find on the channel, so hope you'll enjoy it!

      For me, it's probably the best theme out of the entire game for the time being.

    I'm happy with how they changed things, it felt much smoother to control. Some fine tuning is still needed though. Since you can move while charging Reimu's bomb you can easily win with her by just spamming. The variation between playstyles is very interesting and I'm looking forward to the other characters
    There's been speculation that everyone might be playable since evidence of a playable Yamame has been found in the files. I don't want to expect too much and be disappointed so for now I'm just looking forward to seeing how that might all play out. Another thing I'm curious about is what sort of stages might we get. With how Yuugi's stage is set up it seems there might be a stage portion before her fight and since it's programmed for you to bounce back up quite high after falling off the map it's clear that the game is set up for platforming-like sections, whether that be a stage portion or unique boss fight

    • @Surnist
      @Surnist  Před 3 lety +1

      Well...that's pretty much the issue I have with Reimu, she's a bit too easy to control but seeing that her difficulty is 1/5 in-game, that might have been intended. As long as she's not able to regenerate her health like she used to (even though it automatically does it in easy mode), that's at least going to bring a bit of challenge.I
      I would absolutely not mind for the bosses to be playable though, that'd be great! But it's true that people first heard of the game being a platformer. I guess Twilight Frontier wanted to make a good impression by showing the bosses first, or maybe they are hiding something else under their sleeve.
      In any case, that really makes me look out for the release!

    As someone who tried speedrunning the first demo, I quite enjoyed the water health mechanic
    Reason being is that your bomb usages is actually tied to your health
    The original mechanics worked like this: If you had more than 2 slots, you can sacrifice 1 slot (or 1 hit point) to use a bomb. It's a risk and reward system, as you can risk using the bomb to defeat the boss faster at the cost of losing 1 hp. But tbh, the risk is a bit too much since most people would prefer saving that slot for when they get hit instead of wasting it trying to hit the boss
    Can't wait for the full game to release so I can try out my first ever speedrun :)
    (ps: where can I get the demo, I wanna try this out for myself)

    • @Surnist
      @Surnist  Před 3 lety

      True, the water mechanic worked, but only if you played with the bombs which wasn't necessary. Since you could already do a massive amount of damage with the normal attacks, there was no fear of losing since you could also replenish your health very easily.
      Sure, it was nice for speedrunning, but in general it was just...pretty boring. I feel like they've found a pretty good compromise while adding some difficulty.

    • @technicolormischief-maker5683
      @technicolormischief-maker5683 Před 3 lety +1

      Honestly, I am a little sad to see that aspect get thrown out completely, if I’m to interpret the review properly. What I would’ve done is kept the life regen in, but make it cost much more water than the attacks in order to keep risk/reward intact (as opposed to a 1:1 tradeoff like the first demo). Would be cool to see people make their choices between offensive and defensive play!
      One thing I’m really hoping to see in the full game is a sort of “longplay” mode that matches the structure of the shooters- rather than getting set back to the start of a match on death, implement a continue system and have your resources carry over between levels. That plus a scoring system would really solidify it as a platforming alternative to the main games- I’m picturing a system that rewards both styles of play and asks for a balance between the two. Quick yet safe takedowns of bosses add multipliers to the final score, with any leftover resources being converted into flat point bonuses to be affected by those multipliers. There’s so much potential!

    • @Surnist
      @Surnist  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah, but in exchange, you could simply play without the bombs and still do an astronomical amount of damage without the fear of ever running out of health. I also believe the first demo didn't have the water aesthetic.

  • @Vexal50
    @Vexal50 Před 3 lety +1

    Only thing I'm not a fan of with the new demo is the changes to the grazing gauge. While I do think the recovery shouldn't be instant, I feel its way too slow, to the point I don't even get how you're supposed to do the last phase for Yuugi due to how graze heavy that portion is

    • @Surnist
      @Surnist  Před 3 lety

      It's true that I've been avoiding the issues for this review, one of the main issues for me would be the lack of invulnerability frames for the enemies. But it's true that running out of graze can also be a major issue.
      I guess we'll see what Twilight Frontier will do about this, after all people must give them feedback in one way or another.

  • @Aomgar
    @Aomgar Před 3 lety

    I feel like maybe they can bring back healing but only at full water and with a specific button (Y/Triangle) to heal so there is a strategy of either attacking to finish the HP bar but have a chance of failing and dying or Heal but have to spend more time in finishing the boss.

    • @Aomgar
      @Aomgar Před 3 lety

      Also they didnt patch the Kogasa glitch so Reimu speedrun is REALLY EASY now

    • @Surnist
      @Surnist  Před 3 lety

      The healing is not completely gone though, I've failed to see it in time but passive healing is there when playing in Easy mode.
      As for the Kogasa glitch, I wasn't even aware that there was one, so I guess Twillight Frontier didn't notice it themselves.

  • @AOGood

    Honestly, I didn't really like Marisa's gameplay.
    I always kept getting blind spots on my shots, meaning the only way I had to damage people was with the dash, which meant I was consuming the bullet erase bar and taking lots of damage myself
    ESPECIALLY during the Yamame fight since she kept jumping around everywhere
    But I played the demo ages ago, so my opinion probably changed

    • @Surnist
      @Surnist  Před 3 lety +1

      Reimu's combos stay very simple, however what I pointed out here is that because of the fact you could heal before, it made it not only simple, but also impossible to fail.
      Also, this video wasn't meant to show the best source of damage or something along those lines, but to show that the game isn't as simple as it used to.
