  • After researching for this topic, the decisions and reactionary steps of the original Viacom corporation steered the present status of Cartoon Network and Nick. One of those magical moments Viacom created was Nick on CBS, a momentary Saturday morning cartoon block. Welcome to Attack the Block Episode 2.

The whole "Viacom/CBS technically the same company but seperate" shindig reminds me of Shaw Media/Corus Entertainment.
In 1999, Shaw Communications (owned by the Shaw family) spun off its entertainment operations into a new company called "Corus Entertainment". Somewhere in the late 2000s, Shaw acquired Canwest (formerly Canwest Global) and later changed Canwest's name to "Shaw Media".
Before their merger in 2015, Shaw Media and Corus Entertainment were two seperate companies but still owned by the Shaw family. In 2015 (speculated year), Shaw Media and Corus Entertainment merged, with the merger keeping the Corus name.

I'm really enjoying this series so far. The mandatory educational programs thing has always bothered me. It should absolutely not be up to the government to decide how much of the tv kids watch is "educational". It's not like those shows were actually educational anyway, and the whole thing just reeks of doing something for the sake of feeling like you're "helping the children", instead of doing something that will actually make an impact.

No kidding about them not being educational. And it's even more ridiculous today. For a while all I had was an antenna for getting TV in my room, and I would often watch the subchannels as I preferred them to NBC and CBS. MeTV somehow gets to just play a block of Saved By The Bell with the EI logo over it. I can't say it's worse, I'll take it over those crappy kids nature shows, but how the hell is Saved By The Bell educational?

You can't really blame CBS for giving their time slots to Nick. Even when you take Nick out of the equation, the other Saturday morning channels like Fox Kids, ABC, and Kids WB were destroying CBS in the ratings by the mid 90s. I see Nick on CBS as a last ditch effort to boost their ratings. This is a really interesting series btw and I'll definitely be staying tuned for more of it :)

I love this video, it's pretty cool for CBS to have a Nickelodeon block. You know, UPN (another subsidiary of "Viacom") was going to have a Nickelodeon block in 1998 (to replace the rare sought-after "UPN Kids" block), but the discussion didn't come through yet at the time. I think UPN should've have a Nickelodeon block of it's own. It would match Viacom's content in a way.

I mean, despite the FCC making it near impossible to Air non educational shows on stuff like CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, and The CW, along with the fact that Streaming services exist, I'd like to see a new attempt at bringing the Nicktoons back on one of the big major networks, hell, make it a Collaborative effort between WarnerMedia and ViacomCBS, and call it "The CW Nicktoons". What kind of programming (mostly being of Nickelodeon's animated shows) would you guys expect to see on The CW Nicktoons, if it were to become a reality? Keep in mind, you have to choose different shows to fill in a metaphorical speaking 7am to 12pm timeframe.

PBS used to show their kids cartoons and then take a break to put talk shows on the air and after 2 hours air PBS Kids Go and some more of their preschool targeted shows

you know when I heard the news that Spongebob is officially part of CBS now (just look at this for reference: twitter.com/SpongeBob/status/1202639005487173633 )
and that some people don’t have cable providers that have the rights to Viacom, it makes me wish that they bring back Nick on CBS, cause most people who have those certain cable providers can’t also pay for Netflix,
so I figured they bring back it for Weekday Afternoons/Saturday Mornings and play the most popular and recent shows on there like Spongebob Squarepants (of coarse), Rise of TMNT, The Loud House, The Casagrandes, Power Rangers, Henry Danger, Game Shakers, Paw Patrol, Shimmer & Shine, Blue’s Clues & You, Thomas & Friends, and Blaze & the Monster Machines
do you think that would be good?

Nope Since Pluto Tv Added Nick And Nick Jr To Their Channels Line Up So You Have To Have A Smart Tv Or A Roku Atleast In Order To Have Pluto TV

I feel like it was a great idea but the issue about it is that like
    one the Saturday morning news
second do US government being very restrictive on content and most of these politicians are completely out of touch
and the third issue is the scheduling was very limited
    But it’s a great idea

I sorta remember watching Beakman's World on a independent station that had KGPE47's former callsign. KJEO32, if I remember correctly. KJEO then died for a while, but then Ventura Broadcasting broght KJEO back, oddly butchered in a way.

Actually it became nick on cbs in 2002 not 2003
And also it didn’t actually launch with chalkzone and rugrats those shows came in a later lineup
You really should get your facts straight

I wished The CW would've taken over the Nick lineup after its launch, but with better content like SpongeBob, The Fairly Oddparents and such. It would've been a rating's powerhouse.

Alberto Productions I wished the Children's Television Act of 1990 would be repealed so that Saturday Morning programming would make a complete comeback. But unfortunately kids nowadays can watch their favorite shows any time they want. Even if it does get repealed, it's just too little too late. Cable TV and streaming services have won. Saturday Morning programming is not just obsolete, it's dead. 😢😭😭😭

As Of Right Now If You Are One Of Those People Who Don't Pay Cable And Really Want To Watch Nick You Are Better Of Getting Pluto Tv Since They Have Both Nick And Nick JR Right There (Yes They Have Them So No More Cable)

I never got the point of Nick on CBS. If I wanted to watch Nickelodeon cartoons, I could just watch them ON Nickelodeon whenever I want for as long as I want rather than just once a week for a few hours.

    • @APPictures9
      @APPictures9 Před 6 lety +3

But Nickelodeon in the old days was "blocked behind a pay wall." Putting Nickelodeon cartoons on CBS is a great move because CBS can be watched by everyone who has a TV.
