  • We go behind the scenes with adventure and travel filmmaker Jon Scott on his latest project filming the wild ponies of Dartmoor National Park.
    Jon talks us through why the Panasonic Lumix GH5 is now his go-to camera for filmmaking, he also runs through the benefits of pairing the GH5 with the Atomos Ninja Inferno external recorder - a setup that's perfect for capturing beautiful cinematic images whilst keeping a relatively compact footprint.

      Mr Jonathan, I and we put this video in a sort of major league...we have seen only Neumann films and Yuri Palma delivering something like this with Gh5. Seems an Arri or a Red. Subb

      LAKE COMO thank you, yes the GH5 is a very powerful tool, and the ninja inferno helps you get the absolute best quality possible.

    Simply amazing cinematography! Might be the best looking GH5 footage I've seen! But the question is... there is some GH5 footage out there that doesn't even look like it resolves 1080p... the detail is crushed and looks like a cell-phone, over-sharpened, mess. So do you shoot with the NR and Sharpness setting turned down to get such clean and natural looking detail? It truly looks like a cinema camera the way you shot it! Thanks!

    I just bought this, had a serious case of buyer's remorse after seeing tons of mediocre GH5 videos on CZcams but now after watching this video I feel much better about the decision.

    • @SamChristopher2KX
      @SamChristopher2KX Před 6 lety +1

      I haven't bought a GH5 yet (on the fence) but I too, am only seeing mediocre videos online. What's the deal?! Most videos look like everything is sharp, like a gopro.

    • @Frontigenics
      @Frontigenics Před 6 lety

      "Most videos look like everything is sharp, like a gopro."
      Yep... I've been seeing the same thing as well. Some GH5 videos don't even look like 1080p. But this video... wow. It really looks like Red or Alexa level detail. The crappy over-sharp videos must be cranking up the awful in-camera sharpening and NR settings.

    • @chrismhp
      @chrismhp Před 6 lety +3

      The camera is just one tool; it can only do so much in the wrong or right hands. You could give an Arri Alexa to an inexperienced shooter and they'd make it look like a home video. Anything from the GH4 or A7S are more than enough to create great cinematic images...if you know what you're doing. All the extra bells and whistles of the GH5 and beyond are only there to service shooters who really understand how to pull the most out of those features.
      Lens choice, eye for cinematography (location and lighting), camera movement, and post-processing are all more important than the camera you choose. Those are the things that really decide what your images look like.

      Most gh5 vids i see on yt have orangey skin tones, sephia look or the crazy overused teal and orange look. Not sure if im getting gh5 as an upgrade but i think id be okay with my 8 bit a6500 - 5dm4 combo

    Great work! 2 questions:
    1. What lenses would you recommend for a travel cinematic filmographer that will also be doing vlogs in addition?
    2. How did you get into travel filmmaking? It would be a dream of mine to make a living doing that.

    • @JonathanJScottFilms
      @JonathanJScottFilms Před 7 lety

      Sean Olesiuk thanks, depends what camera you are using but a flexible zoom lens like a 12-35 on micro four thirds sensor or 24-70 or 24-105 on full frame.
      Work hard, keep learning and shoot as much as you can is the best advice I can give.

    Wow ! Great great great video ! The quality is unbelievable… which film making software you using to upload this video on CZcams ? I am a safari guide and I want to invest in a GH5 with the same lense as you (12-60mm) for vlog videos and a Sigma 150-600mm F5-6,3 DG OS HSM for wildlife footage from the vehicule. Do you think that it's a good choice ? Will I still get a very good image quality like on your video with sharp lines ? Thank you very much for your answer and once again well done

      Thanks. A customised version of the Cine-D profile was used for this shoot. Will have to wait for the 400Mbps firmware update to see what its like.

    @Jonathan J Scott Films - I will be purchasing the GH5 very soon, I notice you said that is records 10 bit 4.2.2 into the Atomos, but it shoots this internally? Does the Atomos give it a better image over internal recording?

      Get a Metabones Speed Booster to adapt the lens. It will be killer. I have heard the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 lens is a killer combination with the GH5 and a Speed Booster.
