    No GH6 yet, but I'd say the GH5 II is a very welcome upgrade, at a good price, and it makes the original GH5 more affordable. Winnings all around.

    I found a GH5m2 in mint condition on Ebay three months ago at $950 and couldn't resist buying it. I'm so glad I did, love it

    Yeah, this wasn't as disappointing an announcement as everyone was making it out to be.
    Also, it bodes well for what we can expect for the GH6, I think.
    And yes, M43 is here to stay, like FRFR

    I really like this update. I love how Panasonic continually improves existing cameras over time. DJI also needs a mention in this regard with their upgrades to the Action, while GoPro and Sony reserve improvements for new models and ignore existing users once they have the purchase money in their hand.

    Thanks for this awesome updatevideo!
    Since i´m shooting everything with my GH5 since 2017,
    this really hypes me. I only wished they had put a dual native ISO
    and 10 Bit for the 1080p Slow-Mo in the Mark II.
    But Iove the updates.

    Sold my G9. Sticking with the GH5 for the time.
    There's no immediate need for an upgrade, I can wait it out till the GH6 finally arrives.
    From what I've heard they're targetting $2500.
    Cool as well they'll have a 25-50mm f/1.7 to pair with the 10-25mm f/1.7.

    Brilliant marketing by Panasonic! This release assures that they will keep a lock on this market segment when they come out with the new GH6, which is in a higher market segment of its own.

    Usb charging, streaming without computer and 10bit 4k60 internaly are more than enough reasons for a gh5 2. it is cheaper also than the original gh5 . For me as qn existing gh5 user this is a great update. Of course gh6 will be better but it also costs 1000 more.

    1:39 I have heard many call the S5 the mini S1H. I am a bit of a snob for low light shooting but it seems that the full frame sensor has really limited me in terms of focusing with that razor thin depth of field.
    I know it seems impossible, but if they make the GH6 have similar DR and low light to their S5, I will go completely back to MFT because I really miss the tiny size and butter smooth stabilization.
    Also I hate crops so this S5 is an enigma for me, especially for anamorphic shooting (never experienced it since I don't have much money). Great low light and dynamic range, but slightly worse stabilization and extremely expensive optics.
    I don't know what to do honestly

    Where do you get the idea that it has the S1H color science? I’ve googled and can’t find that comparison or claim anywhere. I’ve read that it’s been updated to Panasonic’s current color standards. Are their current color standards the same as the color science from the S1H?

    • @AnamorphicOnABudget
      @AnamorphicOnABudget  Před 2 lety

      Yes. I got that from talking to Panasonic themselves. All their new cameras use the Varicam color science. :)

  • @professionalpotato4764

    Ironically, I'm more happy about the GH5S ProRes raw update than the GH5ii. I don't have any m43 gear yet, but I think it's one of the cheaper entry "cine" cams.

    As tempting as it is to just buy that camera at launch I'd rather wait for the GH5 to get cheaper on the used market and invest in (anamorphic) glass in the mean time. Although, I am fairly happy with my two Lumix G2 for the time being. They are certainly old, but they are like an old trustworthy friend that just gets the job done. Sadly, editing the footage is... limited with 8-bit AVCHDLite.

    • @SoundSpeeding
      @SoundSpeeding Před 2 lety

      G2? :-o Wow, not tempted by even say a G6? They're cheap as chips, and a huge leap forward.

    • @jdkap201
      @jdkap201 Před 2 lety

      I absolutely love how easy to use and reliable my two G2s are. I mean, they can take a beating and if one of them would get f'ed up I'd just buy another one. You can get them on eBay for like 30 bucks or so. Plus it's not like they are my only cameras. I do own a Canon C100 Mk1 as well. So nope, not tempted :)

    So, same price as Lumix S5. I think GH5 ii is still a good deal for M4/3 users, but as a S1H user, I'm bit confused about their price tags and policy.

    • @dpc4548
      @dpc4548 Před 3 lety +1

      Yea, panny was sooo far ahead of the game. Like canon in the past. Panny is like canon now, trailing behind with the other big two. They all make very good cameras, but they're lacking in so many areas (panny, canon) with crazy price points. Either that or their features (sony) are nothing new in cameras years older and they charge a premium for that.
      If you're shooting seriously or in anamorphic, the pocket 4k is still the king of the consumer market. You can prefer other cameras, but nothing gives as much for as little.

    • @8lec_R
      @8lec_R Před 3 lety

      @@dpc4548 yea, 2 main reasons. Video features are very easy to access as the menus are made for video.
      Also. Raw. I installed magic lantern on my Eos m. I cannot imagine paying so much for camera and not getting to record in raw internally

    The gh5s was a fine camera, but with no sdi like the gh4, no raw recording like cameras half its price and this new one has kept the worst of both worlds. Ibis, no sdi, no raw... It's hardly a bad camera, but there's still little reason to upgrade from the gh4 or overlook better cameras that retail at the same price. Especially for anamorphic.

    • @AnamorphicOnABudget
      @AnamorphicOnABudget  Před 3 lety +1

      This camera has IBIS, what are you talking about? hahaha. Especially for anamorphic, what is the better camera, at this price, or even up to $2500? Besides, you only get SDI and raw recording in cameras much more expensive than this. :P

    • @dpc4548
      @dpc4548 Před 3 lety

      @@AnamorphicOnABudget Yes, it does have IBIS, I said that. SDI comes with the GH4, raw recording comes from cameras starting at $800. The Blackmagic line, for example. Again, the newer GH cameras are far from bad cameras, they're just not for serious broadcast or cinematic work.
