    Thanks again, Dan! Quick question- the "focus ring control" is grayed out on my GH5M2 even though I've mounted my 42.5mm Lumix G f1.7 lens to the body. Do you have any clues as to why the "focus ring control" menu item is grayed out, and how to solve this?

    • @mattalber
      @mattalber Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Dan- so I just discovered the answer from Panasonic. Apparently only 12 out of 48 Panasonic MFT lenses have the capability to make use of this new "focus ring control" feature and mine is not one of them. Watching your video and learning about the "focus ring control" feature was one of the deciding factors in purchasing the camera. Just wanted to let you know so that maybe you could let your viewers know that this feature, while amazing, only works with 25% of their own "focus by wire" lenses.

      As long as you can live without continuous autofocus and you aren't trying to shoot in crazy low light, the GH5II is perfect for that bhpho.to/3NNOK8u. If you do need reliable autofocus, I'd look at the Sony FX30 bhpho.to/41Es3tr which has amazing autofocus and slightly better low light performance.

    Quick question Dan. I just shot an interview with myself on AF but I reviewed the footage and my background was in focus but I was blurry. Was this because I leaned forward to push record and by the time I backed up, the focus was off? How can I avoid this because I obviously have to shoot it over again. Thanks so much in advance for your help!

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  Před rokem +1

      So yeah, the AF on this camera was not very reliable. Most cameras should require focus. I find that once you move back in to position, move around, wave your arms, try to let the AF system know that you are the subject that should be focused on. Or for interviews, you might need to manually focus

  • @Gerald_G
    @Gerald_G Před 3 lety +2

    I feel like the ONE thing Panasonic MUST get right to go to the next level is it’s auto-focus: most of the features of the GH5 gave them a superior product, but who cares if the image quality is unreliable for those who don’t use manual focus? Competitors have caught & left them behind. If the “GH6” doesn’t move to phase detect, it may as well not exist.
