  • Product Management is a fast developing niche to build a career in. You should follow tips by UpGrad to become one of the best in the field.
    While the need for Product Managers is increasing tremendously - in startups, tech companies and other large companies like - the supply in India is currently only limited to a few thousand and compares poorly to countries like the US. As per the Google and Accel Partners SAAS Report, there are roughly 36,000 Product Managers in India and the number is expected to increase to about 68,000 Product Managers by 2020. #ProductManagerJobs #ProductManager #ProductManagement
    So, the need is apparent. But the critical question is, How to become a Product Manager? A common misconception is that Product Managers need to only master certain hard skills such as business understanding, tech and data. However, this means the job is half done. To be a successful Product Manager you must have some soft skills too. These include communication, negotiation and leading without authority among many others. But don't worry about backgrounds, as Product Managers have been known to have diverse work and educational experience prior to making the transition into Product Management.
    Ravijot Chugh, Co-Founder and Product Head at UpGrad, explains in this 3rd part of the Careers-In-Shorts Series what these key skills are and how one can ace them to get on the road to being a great Product Manager.

    Great video, great points on product management. I completely agree that a product manager is pretty much the "ringleader" of the product: you basically have to know all parts/features/pros/cons of the product (usually many products), understand how it compares to competition, know what the customer not only wants but will USE (not always the same thing), and then rally all the teams to get it done - without any real authority, so to speak. Having been a developer, designer, team lead and project manager, I can't think of any one role that needs to be more diverse than a product manager. Love the video!

      Hi there, a PM here. It depends on the skill. For example, excel n pivot for analysis. Tableau for data dashboard. Google analytics for app monitoring. Balsamiq or Sketch for prototyping. Draw.io for creating user flow. N some other project management tools like Trello, Evernote, Asana, or Confluence. N some understanding of scrum or kanban, but you can learn it on the job.

    • @sickre
      @sickre Před 6 lety +1

      There is no such thing as racism, only heuristics. When I hear an Indian accent, I assume a fake or cheated degree, corruption, and poor quality. Indians working in the West should anglicise their names and lose their accent as quickly as possible. India and Indians have a poor reputation worldwide.

    • @ImenBen12
      @ImenBen12 Před 6 lety +4

      sickre really? That's what you get from Indians ? They're such hard workers, how could you put all of them in one basket! Because you think your country does not have corruption? Ahhh the ignorance!
      He does not need to anglicise his name to satisfy people like you, get a grip and be more open minded!

    • @winstonreid9077
      @winstonreid9077 Před 6 lety +3

      @sickre Goodness that's impressively ignorant. And stupid. But I won't waste time having a cyber argument about the obvious reality of racism.
      You clearly have spent no time almost anywhere professionally. Half - if not more than half now - of Silicon Valley founders are immigrants, and a significant portion of those are Indians. Not just white Americans.
      Secondly, there's a reason why American firms outsource to Indian tech firms in large swaths. If the quality of work was so poor the cost savings would be outweighed by the marginal loss of customers due to a poor product. The opposite is true. I've learned this myself with startups I've worked on.
      Third, there's a reason why those of Indian decent are of the main groups protesting Ivy schools for discrimination -- it's because they are routinely of the most qualified to get in!!
      Fourth, UpGrad is an Indian tech company operating and focused on the Indian markets. Be grateful you're even able to access their content which obviously caught your eye otherwise you wouldn't be on their page.
      I'm not even Indian yet ignorant comments like yours piss me the hell off. Do your research, jackass.
      And @UpGrad, thanks for providing such a great resource!
