    Asus AC is truly the worst software, period. We still have an original Azoth we love, put Morandi in it over a year ago and one of my son keeps using it over all the customs I have on display that I'm not using. Bottom line is that if I want to put decent caps, GMK Honor Dark would look good, on my $500 keyboard I have to also replace the switches... might as well have ordered a Freya or I could get a maxed out Sonnet. I would buy this for $350 because we like the original so much and because I'm a goob and spend too much money on keyboards... but not $500. Great review as always! Heck I'm a writer and I get infuriated sometimes because its just so damn difficult to find shine-through key caps. Worse still some switches completely blocks the LED from shining through. • @Orion_Alathorn
    @Orion_Alathorn Před 26 dny

    I'd be with you on the hate of north facing leds if it wasn't for the fact that no one anywhere seems to make shine through caps for south facing leds outside of overpriced etsy shops. and I do not mean keycaps with the letters on the side, those are something else imo, but there are no shine throughs where the legends are on the south side of the top of the keycap to take advantage of the leds location. even companies that seem to only make boards with south facing leds only produce keycaps for north facing ones, it's honestly ridiculous, so until there are good shine throughs for south facing leds I'd say you need to tone down the hate a bit for north facing ones lol.
    and yes, I know most people into keyboards are touch typists and thus do not need shine throughs, but for those of us who have hybrid typing styles or just hunt and peck but still want good boards, shine through is nice and handy, plus it looks nice at night.
    edit: Actually, you know, you pointed out in this video that you make keycaps Hippyo so you could actually be the one to plug this odd hole in the market. I know you don't like shine throughs yourself but for the people that do if you made keycaps that are quality shine through with the legends on the lower half of the cap(not the side) I know there are a ton of people who would buy them myself included. I have found forum posts going back almost a decade of people looking for south facing shine throughs but again no one seems to want to make them, so please, be the one to plug that hole in the market

  • @novotd443
    @novotd443 Před měsícem +2

    Bro, who gives a crap about north facing LEDs?
    They are my personal preference tbh. Way better lighting performance. The light is directly below the lettering, thus you don't need a lot of it to get a good performance and visibility. There are keycaps which are made with that in mind, so you use stuff that is compatible and don't moan about stuff that isn't compatible. Like, am I insane or is it not reasonable to expect someone to watch for parts compatibility?

      @novotd443 Před měsícem

      @@johanb.7869 that was my point, there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. They work the best with north facing LEDs, can be of great quality and are imo essential for certain applications. Such as RGB keyboards with visible key legend.
      The whole "south facing" crap is purely snobbery of the highest tier, considering that it's 2024. It's one of those things that are a hold over from old times

  • @xbutmunch4382
    @xbutmunch4382 Před měsícem +2

    I really don't see the big issue on north-facing rgb. Yes it may have some interference, but it is minor and this keyboard is not exclusively made for custom keyboard enthusiasts. It is a gaming keyboard and north facing rgb is better for shine through. South facing can work for shine through, but they have to be incredibly bright or you need the right keycaps.

    I don't quite know why.. guess I was just being brand loyal for having an Asus mobo, GPU, and mouse... But it was because of you I got the original Azoth. And without question it is by far the best major PC brand keyboard I've ever used. I've swapped the switches just like you did.. but I really liked it.
    It was super over priced (I paid $250 cad which was it on sale!), but it featured almost everything I would have done to it. Minus the switches, which after some lube they felt and sounded decent!
    As you mentioned in your review today though, I absolutely hate armoury crate. It's messy and very very laggy at all times. But it also puts everything together for my computer, overclocking, RGB control, and peripheral control to name a few.

    Putting the design on the inside of the keyboard reminds me of what designers do inside of microchips. Sometimes we will draw things in them, things only a designer at the company would even ever get to see, but they’re there. There may or may not be a microscopic little dinosaur in your electronics, and you’ll never ever get to see it unless you were employed by the company and got access to the archives of that design. Even then, you’d need to know where to zoom in and what layers to look at.

      You mean the original Azoth? The Extreme hasn't even been out 4 months....

    • @danzka_
      @danzka_ Před 11 dny

      @@ayckm Nice catch! I was talking about the original Azoth and I'm editing my original comment to fix the mistake. For the other question, we've bought many computer parts from Corsair, Deep Cool, Asus, and Thermaltake for the past few years. Among those companies, Asus is the only one that has offices and a factory in my country and also the only one that didn't honor the warranty even if we bought their product from a reputable distributor (my country's Amazon). Their UX makes it painful to raise an RMA ticket (compared to the other companies' websites), and when we finally managed to contact them, my assistant was treated like she was some kind of beggar.
      Therefore yes, when I pay top dollar for the stuff I buy I expect to be treated fairly for the products we have that are still under warranty, and even if the answer is "no" at least I expect to be treated with respect, because It hurts me that I've been trusting them with my money and my preference for the last 20+ years and and that money was not free. As a lifelong Asus fan, It really breaks my heart that after dozens of awesome products bought from them over the years, the moment something goes wrong they treat me like this. Also, I understand they also had problems recently for treating US customers unfairly with their warranty policies so this is most likely not an "out of the country" issue. People and companies want to feel safe when buying expensive products.
      Thanks for pointing out that this was about the original Azoth.
      Edit: I can see that this is an Asus-sponsored video. Please feel free to delete/hide my comment (after reading it). I just want things to improve and be able to keep buying Asus products safely. Regards.
