hi jon

Ayyyyy jon
My friend in PCB... just take off the existing cooler (and with this occasion, establish what's under the hood and if it needs proper installation, can't trust anyone these days) and with this momentous occasion pop a pair of calipers on them specs and design (in free sketchup) an adapter board that can suck up the tower cooler of your dreams, then.. just send that file in proper format to Hwatever place of choice online you wish, to cut you an aluminium adapter plate. Like seriously, they'll even tap holes for you. So get yourself a decent pair of calipers, and do yourself a favor while at it. That cooler's not that big considering it's not even half the capacity of the actual ps5... so defo not good enough.
To my knowledge this ps5 mb only has pcie 4x 2.0. Because of this it is not useful for modern systems. I was very dissapointed when I heard that.
Editing ain't bad but it lacks a healthy amount of half-life and counter-strike sounds.

I'm guessing the PCIe slot comes from them repurposing the 8 lanes from the M.2 slots. If you look closely, the x16 slot only has 8 lanes wired. So that explains the lack of M.2.
Yeah that's probably it

12:03 very cool transition
11:44 I burped at the same time and thought it echoed
the reason the board probably doesn't have any M.2 ports is due to PCIe lanes, this CPU doesn't have many lanes as it wasn't meant for desktop use really, so the GPU takes up all the lanes available, the PS5 wouldn't need any dedicated GPU lanes
As if desktop has many lanes to begin with (without going to workstation/server stuff). I am pretty sure they are comparable, but since GPU is dead...-16 lanes we get.
yep even the Ethernet port isn't a PCIe Ethernet Controller, it is a USB3 to Ethernet Adapter built in lol
Not correct... The CPU has plenty of lanes, it's more due to how PS5 handled NVME drives and compressing data. It's sony tech, that AMD didn't design so couldn't sell it on. Without it the SOC can't handle NVME drives since it was built for that. They just repurposed the lanes.
GPU can't be taking up all the lanes, otherwise there wouldn't be any IO at all, let alone a PCIE slot.
@@nated4wgy dont say bs, mf. This is a A77E, this chipset just support a single pcie x4 2.0 signal.

You can reflash the VBios on the Stadia GPU to a normal VBios. I would recommend backing up the VBios first as someone might be interested.
13:39 I guess you've done that already, but its always worth a shot installing Zenpower and rebooting to check if CPU stats are read correctly.

I have kinda that but reversed in the works
You can kinda run Linux on the 360 but it's not very useful, it's a super old kernel and I think no graphics acceleration?? Cause the 360 is based on a custom PowerPC cpu etc so it's not gonna run anything x86 anyway

I'm gonna be honest. I'm in my thirties and I tend to watch a lot of the more "chill" tech channels. Techmoan, vwestlife etc. But I also love your stuff because your personality, humor and genuine passion for your projects just shine through so well. However your editing can be a little overwhelming at times so I really appreciate how this channel seems to take a slower more throughtful approach to things.
I mean, there's still means but it's not a constant assault. Your editor let the video "breathe" and I'm excited for more.
2:16 why a cop out? Think of it as a … beta test. Don’t wanna brick the actual ps5 trying stuff for the first time, right? I know I’d be sad if that happened to me.

4:25 is this Simpsons tapped out background music?
It is. I was just as dumbfounded when i heard it
just had a mini existential crisis thinking about my horde of spare screws disappearing!
7:01 the case is "supposed" to provide all the screws since they could hypothetically be using nonstandard standoffs but in practice they don't always include enough. hard drive screws especially get skimped on these days.
My first pc build the case gave me no screws and the Motherboard gave me two, one small trip to the hardware store and I put 4 different types of screws in there.
now thinking of it I don't think those 2 screws where supposed to hold down the Motherboard but ah who cares
One of your best videos. Please put it on the main channel. Plus, the editor did a great job saving us, from hearing you speak about airflow for three hours.

You should have compared it to the PS5 not the Steam Deck because you're using a borked PS5 APU and with the 6950 XT that you said was overkill it would be cool to see that you made a computer more powerful than PS5.
I clicked here on accident. I'm here to stay.

I imagine the M.2 slots were redacted on the board to make chipset lanes available for the pcie x16 slot.
Also that radeon pro card is GORGEOUS!
Phone died like it lived - 420 blaze it.
Would love to see you recreate a ps5 with this setup. Like find a graphics card that matches the AMD APU in the PS5.
I think the Radeon RX 6700 is about equivalent
Hello Jon.
that RWJ "cool transition" came outta nowhere and I loved it
I miss the old Nintendo music in the backround. Please bring it back, that was the best.
Reason why it doesn't have nvme slots is that those lanes are probably used for the PCIE slot LOL
I appreciate the dedication!
also RIP 24 Ultra, you will be missed.
6:40 I for one have never been in a situation where the screws didn't come with the case (exception of the cooler and m.2 screws). So at least my assumption is that it's up to the case manufacturer.
this was too smooth of a build for this channel, it’s not a bringus video without something jank
He showed janked s 24 at the end of the video
Every self respecting gamer that builds their own computers also has a screw repository, so in the case that neither the case nor other component include the screws we have suitable replacements.
It's not on the Mobo manufacturer to provide the screws because they do not know which case you will be using. The case stand-offs can be either imperial or metric.
Been keeping some spare screws since I started building my own tower (2000 era)
rip bringus s24 ultra
Bro that inferno guitar music playing in the background got me good
The end remark reminded me of one time, when I was at a comment section on a website with tech stuff reviews and such. They tried to convince everyone else, that no one actually needs Noctua fans and that they're overrated. I just wanted to mention that, thanks for the vid!
the =3 transition gave me whiplash
The OG =3 transition took me by surprise!!
12:56 arhm aktshullee the Steam Deck's GPU is at RX 460 level, slightly weaker
hey yes I am the one person still using an RX 480 as my main GPU in linux, to fix gamescope not worky you must set "--backend=sdl" launch parameter for gamescope. This may cause issues with Vulkan layers, idk man I just work here
Bringus REALLY be showing off his limited edition deck
You could probably put a different cooler on there, you'd just have to keep that backplate. If you can't find anything to adapt to it then you might have to drill a few holes in it and use machine screws and nuts to secure the cooler to the backplate. As far as getting a temperature read on the CPU, you could use a Corsair fan controller hub like the Commander Pro, which come with thermistor probes that connect to the hub. I'm sure there are other brands that would do the same thing at a much lower price, I'm just familiar with the Corsair one is all. I used a thermistor that came with my Commander Pro to monitor the VRAM temps on the back of my RTX 3090's PCB since my card only had a built-in temp sensor for the front mounted modules, for whatever reason. I could then read the temps thru Corsair iCUE software and I could read them with HWinfo (or pretty much any other sensor logging app). Good luck Mr. Bringus
Also, use a tempered glass screen protector on your phone next time lol
This is such a cool idea! Turning a broken PS5 into a gaming PC is genius! 🎮✨ I wonder how well it runs games compared to a full tower. Also, props for DIY spirit! Can't wait to see more crazy builds like this. 😄💻

"i'm starting to think the gaping hole is for my hand" nice
The PS5 has 2 NVMe slots, but it has no PCIe slot. Clearly the SoC has just the bare minimum PCIe lanes for the NVMe, so when you add a PCIe slot, there's none left over.
Edit: I expect that PCIe slot is only x8 as well. If they had a full x16 there would be enough lanes for SSD and GPU.
brother your new editor killed it with the RWJ transitions
your editor needs a raise tbh this is the best editing i think ive ever seen
You could probably make a cpu cooler adapter plate in Cad, and send that off to be cnc cut. Then you could use the adapter to mount a different cpu cooler. That would be pretty cool. I'd love to see a video of you testing different coolers on that
7:12 omg the peak

in many cases the cooler is mounted wrong. just turned at 90 degress. not the whole die is under the cooler. the simple reason seams to be a short cable at the fan.
The width is likely for liquid cooling cases. Jon got a GAMER Case™
3:04 wow, didn't knew the PS2 had NVME slots! so ahead of it's time!
I'm kidding, very good video man! Love it already!
The fact that "sometimes 720p isn't enough" is wild

That =3 reference was a deep cut
Thank you YT alg for putting your channel on my main page...! love your style sub +1 :)
And RiP screen ... always be carefull with your phone near your workbench, I've lost a phone or 2 because of "oopsy moments" in the past so now I'm keeping it a few feet further then normal when I'm working on a PC build..
The "missing" NVMe is not a bug, it's a feature. To make room for a GPU they had to sacrifice the M.2 :) but for an HTPC style PC a 2½ inch SSD is plenty enough.
7:05 I don't know what you mean good sir. I'd just pull from my infinite screw repository!
As a very seasoned enthusiast, with Ryzen in particular, I have some ideas of how to un-bottleneck the cpu a bit. The fan change on the cooler might help if it can get high static pressure and more CFM, though I understand Noctua tends to limit fans to below 2000RPM. More importantly, that looks like it has an Intel stock cooler mounted. If thats the higher end version, it has a copper coldplate. You could help it turbo more if you applied liquid metal, like a real PS5. Finally you're gonna want to try using Ryzen master's curve optimizer function to undervolt the CPU. If you can drop it significantly, you'll get another few hundred MHz.
Man that =3 transition took me back. I'm sure Ray William Johnson would approve.
