- Watch the nuclear powered attack submarine HMS Triumph outbound from Devonport Naval base in Plymouth. HMS Triumph (S93) is the last of the Trafalgar-class nuclear hunter-killer submarines in service with the Royal Navy and is due to retire soon.
The boat has since returned during routine manoeuvres.

I find it amazing how HMS Triumph took 4 years to build and yet the Astute class takes 10-11 years to build and were told that the Cold War is back on! Well we are doomed 6-7 SSN’s is just not enough!
The Astute are next level, imagine Triumph as a 3rd / 4th gen sub against the Astute which is 5th / 6th gen. When you look at the timelines for each of them they vary greatly from 8 years to 11 years, this could also be down to problems at build, supply chain, anything really. The initial build was also a major issue as the last subs built by VSEL in Barrow were the Vanguard so they had lost all of the skills needed with a much reduced workforce, if you believe wiki they went from 13000 staff down to 3000 during the interim period of the subs.
Upgrade took nearly six years when she was upgraded
Yep. We should build a final three "Astute+" units AFTER "Agincourt" as transitions to the projected next gen. UK/Australian AUKUS SSNs. and up our SSN fleet to 10 units for the remainder of the Astutes' lifespans AND over their successors' tenure as well.
@@neilsbs8273 Yep, almost down to 3,000 full time employees and with predictable consequences for the essential skills base and the Astutes build prog with the first three boats coming in at nudging 60% over-budget, years late and needing an immense amount of de-bugging post-commissioning. Something better avoided again, wrt AUKUS when it AND much needed increase of the SSN fleet to 10 units could be put in train in tandem via +3 "Astute+" units being built after "Agincourt".
Your point is well made, although Triumph took 6 1/2 years to build, not 4 (Dreadnought took 4 :) ). That said, 6 1/2 years for Triumph included going on sea trials, returning, and being commissioned into the Navy. After 11 years, the Astutes are still to go on sea trials and be accepted. T boats were easily the best cold war SSN, and for me Triumph was the best of the T boats
Went to sea in 1985,May,HMS Invincible with RAF GR3's on detachment.HMS Trafalgar was with us for a few days.Oh boy the things that sub did.Privilige to witness, total respect to those who serve underwater. And to the Officers and crew of Invincible who made us most welcome, great memory.🤙
Nice video … Thank You
Thank you for posting this excellent video. I do really enjoy seeing subs, and you provided great close ups.
Thank you for your support! Subs are awesome.
Do you ever go up to Scotland and film the subs there? (Apologies, if you already posted such clips and I missed them).
Not yet, but maybe one day in the future! They don't post a schedule for Clyde like they do Devonport and Portsmouth.
Got it - and thanks again!
😁
Last of the Trafalgar Class
Looks more like a day trip around the harbour
Im sorry Cobra... couldn't make it..see you at 4 thou
It makes a change seeing a Royal Naval vessel not being actually towed back to dry dock..
🥱
Ok Captain clueless.
Don’t be stupid
Weather worn but still deadly!
How do you know when the ships are leaving to go see them? or do people send you clips?
The Royal Navy post a schedule of warships moving at Portsmouth and Plymouth. :)
Devonport naval base publish ship movements in the evening paper in Plymouth
A menacing vessel
Pardon my ignorance, but where is this sub coming out from?
Plymouth
Destination Black Sea?
whats the Orange bouy behind it ?
That would have the connection for the towed array sonar, which will be 'clipped on' by a speciast vessel once she gets into open water outside of the breakwater.
@@Nigelr1966 RCS endstop
Stop patrol boats from crossing to close astern - there's another 25 foot of boat under water aft of the rudder.
@@Nigelr1966 Am I missing something? All I can see are channel markers.
Someone’s lobster pot 😂😂😂
Is that a window on the front of its sail?
Don't believe any British sub have windows, some other countries have a window (because where they go, it's too cold to stand outside for too long). Most subs don't due to the weakness it introduces (and lack of stealth skin)
I think you missed a trick for submarine nets....regards the jagged edge.
To those who know this might sound like a stupid question but why do some crew stand on the casing?
Tradition plus being available to assist if problems occur docking or undocking
It’s called “proceedure alpha”. It goes back to the days of sailing vessels, when entering harbour the crew would line the decks so the harbour master could see none of the guns were being manned
@@donlaight5943 Thank you so much.
This is me
Devils point a great spot to film from.
I thought Royal Navy Submariner’s had switched to wearing black caps , I can see several wearing white caps in that video?
She's the last of the old Trafalgar Class SSNs, I think; "HMS Triumph"?? Fine Hunter Killers and still better than most other navies' current latest models today!... er? ... and it's in the vid's title so I look like a total idiot! 😜🤪😝
Though in fact I worked on two subs (the T2400 SSK, HMS Upholder and the 1st of class SSBN, HMS Vanguard) being built at the same time at the same yard.

Bit of an exaggeration, I don't think she looks bad at all, especially considering her age.
Bet the Ruskkies wish they had a fleet of 'em.
@@stevehelliwell9101 I'd put money on it giving anything the Russians have a run for their money.
You wouldnt want to be a Russian sub with her on your tail, you wouldnt know she was there unless you wanted her to.
