  • Making a knifehandle out of pants and a shirt is easier than you might think. In this video I'm making an EveryDay Carry knife (EDC), with handlescales made out of fabric and epoxy resin pressed together.
    Steel: 1.2003 / 75Cr1 / 1075 + Cr
    Tempered: 200°C (392 °F) for 1h ≈ 59-60 HRC
    Weight: 92 g / 3.24 oz
    Finish: Blade: 400 grit sandpaper
Handlescales: CA Glue 1000 through 5000, then buffing compound
Things I used in this video:
Affiliate Links (it does not cost you anything extra, but I get a small commission, which helps me a lot)
    Epoxy Resin: amzn.to/2Ur3AJE
    CA Glue: amzn.to/3BgHg63
    Buffing Compound/ Metal Polish: amzn.to/3iqJd7B
    Sandpaper: amzn.to/3ewCxU7
    5-Minute Epoxy: amzn.to/2UeewKR

1:11 What Steel am I using?
    2:05 Grinding the rough Shape
    2:24 Drilling Handle Holes
    3:03 Handfiling the Plunge lines
4:02 Bevels, Sanding and Heat Treatment

"Now I finaly shut up and show you the result" - best outro ever lol 😂!.. Great Job Sven! I love the handle shape- looks very comfortable! I've noticed that if you file the plunge line inversely (so the spine is closer to you and the bevel further) the plunge line looks better and the risk of scratch is less. About the micarta: Make a U shape frame from OSB and with 2 OSB boards squeeze it in the vise (or screw)- you get perfect flat surfaces and also the air will have better way to get out while epoxy is curing.

Thanks, D! Those are great ideas. I'll definitely try filing the plunge line inversely. I already made a press, but if that one doesn't work I'll try the U shape 👍

Thanks a lot! I‘ve actually had a lot of luck with my puukko video but it‘s nice to see someone found this one aswell.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, it really helps out a lot!

You should think about building a folding worktop on wheels so you can just move it where you need and slide it against a wall folded up when you're done. It wont be the biggest workbench but it can be extremely useable. I've done that for my room. Tiny room but its the only place I have since I rent with 2 other people in a small house. Without it I would be dead in the water. Woodworking is in my opinion a top 5 skill everyone should learn and use for problem solving

That’s a good idea! I’ll consider that for my own workshop in the future

My wife's the same way about MY space 😡 My man, that came out awesome! From the homemade micarta, to the file line that looks like it just straight out belongs there, ya done good! The sheathe looks great to. All-in-all a perfect EDC for sure 👍🏽

@@NjordArtisan We just need to work on getting you a proper anvil! Sometimes, and I mean sometimes, you can check a local landfill, or scrapyard, or even a junkyard, and you just might get lucky. OR you can just Google it 😅

Sehr schönes Messer, um das Micarta zu pressen könnte man mal so Power Zwingen versuchen (Piher Maxi-F Hochleistungsschraubzwinge) die schaffen ca. 900kg Anpressdruck.
