      His intelligence level translates to his fight IQ, which is 90% ( imo ) of all successful fighters. Combined with his natural athleticism and work ethic, this made him virtually unbeatable.
      Except for his underestimating of Matt Sera, and the juiced up Jhonny Hendricks, he was virtually undefeated. I'm pretty sure his striking would give him the edge in a VERY hard fought decision win over Khabib.

Khabib did not same, but you have certain fighters who go on until they are beaten to a pulp and their brain doesn't even function well enough anymore to string a decent conversation together. What the interviewers need to understand is that his lifestyle/legacy is not going to change dramatically even after defeating Conor and/or Khabib. There's only so much a practical person would want to consume personally and once past a certain point of wealth, there's only unnecessary risk to be had in training and fighting, particularly when you consider his current wealth could easily help him generate more wealth. GSP has even said he hates fighting, one more huge reason not to. He's paid a huge price. Let the man evolve and transcend himself on his own terms. As it stands, 10-20 years from now, we'd still watch a GSP interview. He will (probably) never fight again, and that's a good thing.

      @solitudeguard1932 Před 2 lety +9

      No I think if he beats Khabib he firmly establishes himself as the MMA GOAT, no question about it. Especially if he uses his well rounded style.
      Khabib is arguably the grappling GOAT in MMA, but if he beats GSP, he establishes his style as the most supreme style in MMA, because it'll just prove that reaching the highest level of grappling is always better than being a well rounded fighter.
      In essence, the fight between these two would help us answer core questions about the entire sport and not just show us who was better among these two guys.

    • @Frip36
      @Frip36 Před rokem

      Wrong. Defeating Conor and/or Khabib...especially Khabib would settle the great question DEFINITIVELY. It would be a MAJOR boost to GSP's legacy. But if he lost, it would be major blackmark as well. Meaning GSP would no longer be consdidered the GOAT. And what's this "I don't want to train." HE ALREADY TRAINS EVERY DAY! What else does he have to do? Then he goes into the "key is happiness" mumbo jumbo dodge. He is simply afraid of losing. That's fine. His choice. His life. Let me just put it this way. GSP has faced specialists and top-tier guys in UFC while they were at the top of their game. He beat Hughes, Serra, BJ, Thiago, Nick, Bisping, and so many other guys. All these guys were in their prime for the most part, and he won. I don't care what people say; he even beat a roided Hendricks. The fact Hendricks fell off after USADA tells you something. A non-roided Hendricks loses to GSP easily. Overall, GSP is a scientist when it comes to fighting, as he dissects his opponent's weakness and explores it. GSP, in his prime, easily beats Connor, and it would be a harder fight with Khabib, but this wouldn't be the first wrestler he fought. Also, Connor doesn't hit as hard as roided Hendricks. Let's be honest. Hendricks pre-USADA was rearranging people's faces and hitting like a truck. So, I think GSP would win both fights.

    Love the questions and the answers and the back and forth. Realized as I was listening that PBD is ultimately a materialist in his concerns -- that is not a criticism. But he localizes the hunt and the hunt for things in largely worldly terms. GSP is more expansive and metaphysical in his current hunt and therefore more difficult to pin down in the conversation. I suspect, given more reflection, that GSP probably doesn't want to hunt anything else anymore in worldly terms. Whatever there is to hunt he hunted early on better than any of us and knows it's limits once you get it. PBD still has a way to go in that realization and journey, but seems like a sincere and self-reflecting person enough that he will get there, too. A Beautiful exchange. Really enjoyed this. Kudos to you all for investing in the ideas and engaging each other this sincerely and vulnerably.

The main hunt should be for true and full happiness and that includes great health which is actually much more important than money and business success (which are great, i'm not disputing that) but PBD does not seem to have that more expansive view of success and happiness that you alluded to. I think it would have been great if GSP had mentioned and explained how good health is actually an equally or more worthy hunt compared with that of a business or enterprise hunt. Two things though that would be in GSP’s favor is the fact that GSP is known to counter and out wrestle wrestlers and he has more experience at 170. If that’s the case you should factor in height since it’s more of an important factor in fighting than weight. If Jon Jones was 6’1 with a normal reach he would be an average fighter. the man has the longest reach in the ufc and is the height of heavyweights fighting old worn out middleweights since most of the fighters he faced have gone down to or up from middleweight. His talent is in his physical attributes not mental capacity and that’s where GSP shines and he would give Jone a hard fight if he was in his prime. Jones will lose in heavyweight badly especially since he can’t even finish Reyes. Jiri also is the new guy in town that will make sure Jones will never go back down to Light heavy Weight.
