Yeah, incredible story. Came from a karate background, but developed wrestling good enough to outwrestle NCAA champs (he is one of the best ever at the double-leg takedown), and boxing good enough to outbox standup specialists. Most of all, he fought intelligently.
When I first started watching it was all about the iceman Chuck Liddell.... watch him vs Renato Sobral (Babalu) and how he knocked him out and got me hook into ufc

The UFC1 which enlightened the world on the ground game, and that bjj, etc, is more important then striking was what got me into mma, that blew everyone’s mind because that was not common believe before this. But GSP became the ultimate example of the promise birthed at those first UFC championships. He to me is the ultimate mma fighter. Kind of after UFC1 he became a realization of that plus all the great mma movies like Bloodsport, Bruce Lee, Perfectly respectful, humble, and each time he faced an opponent who was suppose to be far better then him say as a wrestler, or a striker he didn’t do what everyone expected and fight his opponents where he was stronger, he beat his opponents more often then not where they were strongest, and you could see he crushed the will of so many opponents because of that. Fighters who bad mouthed him before the fight, after he beat them, they would say things those fighters never said about any other fighter. Nate called him ‘the man’ right after. Koscheck said the same, and was never the same, and BJ Penn threw in the white towel after he was claiming nonstop before the fight that GSP would quite. His career was nearly over as a champion because of how much his will was broken in that fight. GSP was not just defeating fighters in his hey day, he made them eat every word they said bad about him. He was is the greatest in my mind for sure, and the fact that he did it respectfully and humblely puts him in a league of very very few greats of any sport. My only dissappointment was Khabib and him didn’t end with that last fight. It would have been the fight of the century to me...

I am new to MMA n never saw this guy fight . But man he is the most humble dude i have ever seen in my entire life
You have to watch some of his fights arguably the best to ever touch the sport
Yeah, incredible story. Came from a karate background, but developed wrestling good enough to outwrestle NCAA champs (he is one of the best ever at the double-leg takedown), and boxing good enough to outbox standup specialists. Most of all, he fought intelligently.
GSP seems so happy. You love to see it!
GSP is the reason why I got into watching MMA. His sportsmanship, wisdom, and drive to compete is so damn inspiring.
I didn’t like him when he first started. I was a Matt Hughes fan but I grew to like GSP and now I think he’s one of the best to ever fight
When I first started watching it was all about the iceman Chuck Liddell.... watch him vs Renato Sobral (Babalu) and how he knocked him out and got me hook into ufc
I was in Montreal for the first Canadian event EVER, watched this legend redeem himself with his win over Matt Serra. After the event, everyone poured into the streets, complete strangers hugging and high-fiving each other. Was fucking insane!
