GSP is a true stoic, he’s the GOAT in my eyes and is truly someone everyone could look up to
I love how GSP explained the fighters of the past vs fighters of today debate. So many people don’t understand the science of fighting/sports and how we learn from those that came before in order to get better. Some people, including professional analysts, think athletes today are just magically better which makes no sense. Props to gsp for understanding it’s about studying, learning and improving upon.
But the irony is, till this day you can analyze his fight iq, wrestling, striking, clinch work, & his Olympic style training & he’s still ahead of modern day welterweight. Just look at Usman who’s just as of the last 2-3 years has gotten decent boxing abilities..
while GSP like fight philosopher he is sought out the best trainer’s and sparring partners to build his fight iq.

There’s another thing. Sport popularity also increased, meaning the pool of people interested in taking up MMA is larger. Because there are more athletes available, you are likely to see more really good athletes (and really bad) and the best of best will be even better.

@@chaborz4851 actually. Id put him in top10 easily , but i would not put him in top 5 bc sadly the division was weak while he was fighting. Look at the division for the real top 5(gracie is not on most peoples top 5 bc UFC 1.0 was a freaking circus) in no particular order:
Anderson Silva(who could have had 2 belts n 2 divisions middleweight and light heavy didnt do light heavy bc he didnt want to fight his friend lyoto);
Jon Jones who destroyed the light heavyweight division with HOFers in there;
Mighty Mouse most consecutive title defenses in UFC at 11 AND most successful title defenses in the UFC. That division was also stacked with extremely technical fighters;
GSP has a resume that speaks for itself. And the round robin his division underwent in the battles between himself, matt serra and matt hughes were something truly to behold;
No all time great mma fighter list is complete without Fedor. The man was tested in Pride. Most people dont remember the spectacle that Pride truly was and how many UFC HOFers came from being poached from the Japanese fight company.
Along with khabib to round out the top 10, id include amanda nunes, fabricio werdum, randy couture, frankie edgar. And i could easily be convinced to switch one of them out with shogun rua, cro cop, rampage jackson, DC.
@@jdelgado243 To add to your point about the lightweight division being weak, let's take a look at Charles Oliveira. He is beating Khabib's opponents in lesser time. He just proved to the world that their goat is weak. Khabib is talented, but he never tested himself with complete MMA fighters. In my opinion, he shouldn't be in the top 10. Maybe a honours list or something.

GSP hit the nail on the head thats why I always found whos the greatest fighter, boxer, basketball player, baseball player, etc. stupid. You cant compare people from different eras. Not to mention the rule changes like in and change in style of play in certain sports like basketball and football make arguments pointless trying to compare players from different eras. The weight training, the nutrition is EXTREMELY different in certain eras, the rule changes and style of play is extremely different in certain eras. Even different positions in the same sport you cant compare. You cant compare players/athletes from completely different eras

I agree with Georges here, and he said it so eloquently. I think a better measure of greatness is how well you dominated your era. I think in that respect, GSP will always be at the very top, even as fighters become better.

Out of all UFC fighters GSP was respectfull of every fight he had even when Diaz went nuts with the trash talk have you ever had a gun pointed at your Head And as always GSP would not get into it and say I'll do my talking in ring the thing is he respected the UFC and all the different types of fighting and his opponents but I never seen a fighter that was almost impossible to take to ground most tried but he was so good at staying on his feet wasn't a super good finisher but layed some good beatings on guys and he did have a problem with bleeding easy and looking way worse then he was but he had the strongest legs out of any fighter he was amazing and experienced at so many types of fighting

GSP is the GOAT. Many people will nowadays say Jones, but I say GSP. Main arguments: GSP's competition's record was way better than Jones's, he had beaten more champs than Jon, Jon has 1 more title win and that 0, but GSP beat both Matts brutally to avenge them losses so that is not a big argument in my eyes. It's 2:2 right now with this arguments and what completely decides it is GSP did it clean, plus his double champ status is much better, since Bisping >>> Gane.
for one if a fighter gets caught on juice i consider every win gets an asterick just like baseball same with concesco maguire all thier HR get astericks. Juice gives fighter so much more stamina and strength its a cheat other jones notorious eye pokes.

GSP is right. Fighters of today benefit from the skills and knowledge of watching Fighters from the past. So it doesn't make sense to ompare Fighters across generation. From that perspective, I feel that fighters fought multiple generations out to be the greatest. GSP, Jon Jones are the obvious choices. Fedor, Jose Aldo transcended the sport for a few years and fought well into 2 generation of Fighters. Anderson Silva and Mighty Mouse as well had long runs however the depth of competition was subjective.

One thing he missed out on comparing athletes of different eras is as the sport progresses, more people take part and the overall gene pool gets better. Bringing Royce at his peak into today's arena when there are literally millions more people involved and expecting him or anyone else to up their game to current levels makes no logical sense.

I think you need to go back and check how long Silva fought in the UFC and how old he was when he started losing. This guy was forced into retirement by Dana. He fought til his 40's then went on to win boxing matches after retiring from the UFC. Longest reigning champion who defended his title more than 12 times with a variety of creative finishes.. This is a true fighter who never played it safe or was he concerned about his record nor his "legacy" like some other fighters..

Its shouldn’t be called greatest of all time, it should be the greatest of a specific era or the greatest to this day because we know when the sport started but it hasnt end. In 10 years some freak of nature may come and do unique things that we never saw before. For me it’s illogical to say of all time when it is still lasts.
