For 900$ I was kinda expecting you to be able to actually use GC discs.
Cramming any disc drive in a handheld like this is pretty unrealistic nomatter the price, but I get it. For $900 it should at least have a memory card slot, a video output slot and some way to hook up extra gc controllers. But then again, I guess if you have $900 to blow on a handheld *not* fully functional wii, you probably have plenty of softmodded wii's and/or gc's hooked up already.
That doesn’t make any sense
@@Andree1x It does make sense. The video creator decided to spend money on it. For him it was worth the investment. I personally wouldn't have bought this unless it was around $300. Any more and that's a hard pass.
@@NoMoreLines remember when cds would skip in CD players when walking?
@@anonymousanonymous4690 the psp fixed that with a disc insert. This could have done the same
Considering it's basically a trimmed Wii motherboard that price is a lot more than I would expect (considering how cheap you can get them). I would have expected around $450ish. The print job on the case looks really good though compared to a lot of the other ones.
Was a bid tho so people probably drove it up
@@dannyboy643ify bro it’s 2,000 bucks😫
I agree, It's a really nice portable but wii board trimming is probably one of the best documented and most done portable builds out there. The dreamcast and ps2 he bought while lower quality are probably quite a bir more difficult to do. Still, I'd love to buy something like this for 450 ish. Though I do always wonder why the games are forced widescreen :/.
@@Saul_.Goodman Where did you get two thousand from? It's very clearly shown in almost the first frame of this video that it was 850. Where did you get an additional 1150 from?
@@Saul_.Goodman Scratch that, I see what you mean now. The twats who made it are price gouging hard now.
I love how most of these handheld Wii and GameCube consoles run the Wii and GameCube library of games and as well as the Homebrew software being installed, and as well as the button layout itself, quite interesting
It's because most of them have a trimmed down Wii motherboard which can natively play both Wii and GameCube games. So this can do almost anything a normal Wii can do. This one just happens to look exactly like a gamecube controller
@@jrob0021 I think they also do it because the GameCube motherboard uses more power than the wii motherboard
@@Cyx12 plus gamecubes can't be trimmed down as much as wii motherboards and i don't think they even have homebrew
Nice! Cool to see some Ashida content, thanks for the tear down!
I started working on building one.
Just got the wii trimmed down and most of the custom PCBs soldered and ready for wiring.
I had the case printed to this spec and I'm super excited to see how it turns out!
How it is going bro? :)
I've got one of these too, I love it! I believe that button you are unsure of is for syncing a Wii controller. Also, my right speaker gets staticy as well and I thought it was an issue with the wiring, but maybe it isn't since you are having the same issue.
If you don't have the MX chip, VC games usually won't work correctly, but I believe they are working to fix this in the next version of RVLoader.
So just a discussion on pricing... since I know people will be questioning the cost of it (I paid almost $900 after tax and shipping).
The cost of materials is $236, excluding the 3d printed case, gamecube buttons, and wii motherboard. Not sure how much it costs to order a 3D print, but let's assume we order the 3d print, a gamecube controller, and a wii and the total material cost is up to $300. I have no idea how much time it took the builder to put this together, but including building, troubleshooting, and testing, I'm gonna guess it took at least 20 hours of work. Maybe more, maybe less, but with a build like this, there's a lot of troubleshooting and re-doing things that you do wrong the first time. And that's not including the hours that went into research to become familiar with the custom portable console world. So assuming 20 hours of labor at $25/hr (which is a pretty low hourly rate if you have the skill set to build this), that's another $500. So $300+$500=$800. Just going off of that logic, I don't think paying $900 for this was a stretch. I've mentioned it before, but "professionals" in the portable modding community commission portable consoles for more than $1,000 (a version of the GBoy a few years ago was being commissioned for $1,500).
Is that why they have upped the price to 2k on ebay now? 😂😂😂
@@tumbles8350 completely different seller selling for $2k. It’s been up there for months.
@@jrob0021 I see, not very clear as you hide the sellers name and you listed the link as "Check out THIS portable GameCube for sale on eBay" and link to a specific seller rather than just the search
@@tumbles8350 because it’s also an Ashida portable lol. It’s exactly the same.

🔥🔥🔥🔥! Great review! Had a GameCube & Wii back in the day
This is honestly one of those "above my pay grade" type builds. Would have been smooth if the batteries had their own bays.
STEAMDECK ROOOOOOOOCKS
YOU COULD LITERALLY BUY A STEAM DECK AND A 1TB SD CARD FOR THE PRICE DUDE.... dont be fooled.
@@mathisblair2798 💯
@@mathisblair2798 you are not being fooled, this really cost what it costs, comparing this to the steamdeck is comparing apples to oranges, this is for the few people that really specifically want this thing.
@@diablo.the.cheater For the price of a steamdeck.... I can do all that this device can do. I never said the crestor was blatantly trying to scam anyone. I just can't defend it's price tag from any angle. It may run wonderfully....but for that price tag I'm a half or third of the way to building a legit PC which could probably run all GC games with no issue. No matter how much love and nostalgia is in this. It's not practical from a price point. Apologies for any seeming rudeness. But no amount of nostalgia would being me to this device.
Thank you. That looks awesome. The GameCube is one of my favourite consoles ever
Imagine having the ability to spend almost $900 on random video game stuff...
That's what sponsors are for. He likely wouldn't be able to do these terribly often if it weren't for his sponsors.
It's also a tax right off. Considered business expenses, that helps with the expenses as well.
People underestimate the power of sponsors and ad revenue.
EBay charges tax so he definitly did spend 900
I SUGGEST YOU JUST BUY A STEAM DECK FOR 400$ AND PLAY EVERY GAME CONSOLE AND PC GAME ON THE GO FOR A. SUPER PRICE AND AWESOME HARDWARE
The first game I’d want to play on this is Lego Star Wars I. A close second is Sonic Adventure 2 battle and rounding it out at third would have to be Need For Speed Carbon. The GameCube controller triggers are also probably the most satisfying triggers in gaming history. I want one.
Love these kind of tech videos earned a sub 🖤
That looked very clean! I wouldn't mind getting one, but only if everything worked.
Hey I’m a portablizer myself so here’s some info. This spesific one is called the ashida made by a modder named wesk. The price for parts is about 500$ and can take more than a week to make considering work, eating, sleeping, etc. 800$ for this is a big deal from other prices. I can answer most of y’all’s questions if you want.
Okay, my most burning question is... how are the parts worth $500??
@@TheHanStudios custom pcb's and circuit boards cost the most. you need custom circuit boards from 4layertech, and that's like $200 right there. If you don't have the tools, that'd set you back another $200-300. The Wii costs $50, and there are about a dozen of other miscellaneous things you need from different companies, so you have to factor in the shipping cost aswell. And if you don't have your own 3d printer, a good 3d printed case could cost another $100.
@@TheHanStudios like the other person said. Custom pcbs from 4Layer are about 200, case is 60 minimum, other parts are about 150, you can give or take a little depending on if the person already has some of the things needed.
Looks like a useless piece of crap, waste of money and time to me when you can just emulate dolphin on your phone.
@@rottenapple_ brur shut up its cool
If the console doesn't go to the home menu that means there is no bluetooth module installed. I've built several of these and would love to talk to you about it if you're down, and to help more people understand what goes into making a console like this
So let’s play a game. Take a shot every time he says the word so
Amazing , beautiful design!
Was hoping to see a tiny disc drive on the back lol
Jacob that's pretty awesome great video as always 😎
So far, the gamecube portable looks the best out of the ps2/n64 mods you've shown us.
Holy crap, that is quite the sticker shock. Does look cool though.
I'm working on building one of these right now!
so you bought that. I saw that listing on eBay and wondered who bought it. Nice.
I was fairly impressed by the inside was decently clean
Now because of the button layout, you can expect the full experience playing Gamecube games with this portable handheld. Something like the Anbernic RG351V people should not expect it to run GameCube games properly because it doesn't have the correct button layout.
The Anbernic RG351V would be able to play the full GC library if it had a second joystick, because then it would just be like a G-Boy
You could probably light two tea lights for a sensor bar. Just space them apart like the bar. If you get the Wiimote to connect.
The custom firmware that is in the portable has a feature that lets you emulate a wii remote, including some basic shaking, so you can play games like mario galaxy, but not wii sports resort
That "dragon" logo is for hiidra (hydra). Hiidra is the game loader written by a modder named Aurelio. He is Italian, so the circle is a pizza and the 3 "dragons" are hydra heads.
Dude wtf that gameboy is amazing
What a dream it would be to player Paper Mario TTYD on the go
ngl i love your content and i am proud to be a part of this community and when i first saw your face i thought that was really amazing as nowadays a lot of these types of creators go faceless throughout their career. keep up the great work man can't wait for the next video

Favourite GameCube game was mgs the twin snakes. Only reason I had one
You could use two candles as a sensor bar lol if you can pair the Wiimote anyway that would work
That is so awesome I would be playing a lot of video games like resident evil and a lot of other games
Watching what I assume is the temperature of the device slowing increasing in the top right of the screen is giving me anxiety lol. Is there a chance of it overheating?
The margins on this must be insane. 900 is nutty af
That looks pretty cool 😁
Kind of reminds me of my switch and I think there’s actually a way to use GameCube controllers with it if I’m correct on that shoot thanks for reminding me I’ll have to get one.
STARFOX ADVENTURES

The lunchbox...is no more!!!
Building one myself soon, a great dude named wesk designed it, he just released the ps2 ultra slim as well:-)
Dude. I literally was watching this same bid 2 weeks ago lol. I ended up buying the clear blue one from the same seller.
Nice
The more it improves , the higher the price will go up. But the lack of being able to use retail GC Software like the full blown version of the Wii, is pretty disappointing 😞 for that price. If they add it in the future revisions, it's going to be around $1200.
I remember seeing a guy who made one of these years ago. Took him quite awhile to perfect the process and the custom printing. I missed my calling if guys are willing to pay $900 for this stuff.
No one’s willing to pay that. Only a CZcamsr for the views. Normal human beings would never
@@intothematrix6635 yes, the seller has other accounts to boost the price via fake bids… I know how that works… but like I said In another’s comment, a fool is born every minute

Don't make a GameCube portable, make a Wii Portable. This is a Wii that has been cut down, not a GameCube.
Interesting you have one because they don't sell it on Ali-Express 😲
These are cool but for the price u can get a UMPC like a steam deck, onex, gpd,aya and u can have GameCube plus many others and have a full PC
The advantage of portablizing is that you won't be emulating, but rather running on native hardware, so that means no latency, no frame drops, etc. - you get to play the game exactly as it runs on a Wii because it is a Wii, and there's also a little bit of a shock factor when you tell people that there you are playing a Wii
Those are cool but for the same price you can shhhhhhhh......................... people can buy whatever they want, just because you don't want it doesn't mean others don't want it

There are tons of options to play GC games on the go. These types of fan projects are super cool but if you just wanna play some GC games on the go you don’t need one of these. Just use your phone or get a Steam Deck.
Sweet it was the price!!!! Wow 851 dollars
I wonder why we don't see og Xbox portable yet we already have ayaneo, ps2 portable, Wii portable and GameCube portable
Very cool!
It’s crazy how small Wiis can get.
Yeah. The more you look into it, it’s really the disc drive the takes up a good portion of space in consoles
honesty if I had one I'd prefer if the back opens and you stick the disc in as I prefer the disc system
The problem with this is that the disk drive is huge - much larger than the entire system, unless you were to create your own bootleg small disks like the ones Sony used for the PSP. Also, the case is pretty much crammed full once it's done, and I've even had a little trouble closing some of the ones I've build because it's so tight. Another advantage of USB over traditional discs is that USB is multiple times faster at loading games, and the ones I've built have 512 GB of storage each, which allows me to have basically the entire gamecube and Wii game libraries and still have tons of room left over, which of course can be played at any time. It also allows for you to plug the portable into the back of another Wii and play on the TV, none of which could be done with discs
i need to learn how to make portable consoles
um dos mis bem feitos que ja vi por ai. muito legal.
