Should Nico Hulkenberg get a second chance at F1?

- Up until the K-Mag announcement, there was a lot of talk of Nico Hulkenberg getting the second Haas seat, and this got me thinking: does he deserve a second chance at being a Formula 1 driver?

Mate, you jinxed it once more. Check the Aston Martin F1's latest news.
his mic is terrible lol, hes gotta upgrade.
I guess this aged very well. We will see him this weekend in the aston.
He said that COVID isnt that much of threat anymore... so the video aged well, but that statement didnt.
Aged even better
He Got the Second Chance For the First Race, Lets go Hulk is Back.
I hope k mag does well at haas
I hope Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy come this year.
And I hope Putin become(s) a pacifist.
And I hope Kanye becomes normal
These replies ages well lmao
Thanks for having me :)) ps. idk why my mic sounded so bad 😭😭
Based on how much I like him as a driver I would love to see the Hulk back since his character is a real bonus for the grid. But, imo he has had his time in f1. He was very quick on his day, but far from championship winning caliber. And while definitely not everyone is championship material, the amount of young talent that could be is crazy right now. Therefore I feel like Piastri or Pourchaire (to name two) are more deserving of a seat at the moment as I feel like we have seen enough off what Hulk could do (maybe a bit harsh, but I don't see him progressing as a driver that much😬). Right before Kmag was announced, I had given my opinion on what Haas should do below a community poll here on CZcams. And while I am a firm believer in promoting young talent, I saw Kmag as the best option for Haas. To me it seems he is hungrier for good results and at the moment it feels like he has more potential than Hulkenberg (as I was really impressed at what he did with a Haas sometimes especially in 2018), while having experience enough to understand what F1 is all about. Hulkenberg definitely deserves it over some, but in the grand sceme of things, not more than some others.
I see your point but I thought Hulkenberg had way more potential as a driver than KMag. I really wish he had got the Haas seat instead but Kevin already knows the team so...
I disagree. In 2018 Hulk and Magnussen were both standout performers in the midfield for Renault and Hass respectively. Magnussen however is nearly full 5 years younger so has much more room to grow. Both drivers careers since have gone backwards but Hulk is around the same age as Vettel. He'd realistically only have 2-4 years left wheras K-Mag could realistically do 6-9.
He needs the ruthlessness of his chsmpionship-winning compatriots.
He's back now
fun fact: 99% of us here have the same amount of podiums as Hulkenberg has in F1
Yes I know such an original joke
no , if u take into account his junior career as well .
Hulk is one of the only four driver to win F3/Gp3 and F2/Gp2 consecutively .
The other 3 being Lewis Hamilton , Oscar Piatri and George Russel .
so funny i forgot to laugh
@@medipeace307Also Charles Leclerc
@@medipeace307 racing loves statistics.....:-)
Given his time in F1, age and his results......no
BUT
Im a big Hulkenburg fan and was jumping for joy when he won Le Mans with Porsche so its a YES for ME!!!!
His results were damn good as recently as 2018. He only was meh cuz Renault failed him in 2019. Still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth
Crazy timing
Why should it just be Hulkenberg to get a drive again though? What about Pascal Wehrlein? What about Stoffel Vandoorne? F2 drivers deserve a chance. He spent 10 years in F1, surely there are better drivers who deserve a seat🙄
Vandoorne was put in his grave by Alonso, dont think he's coming back
@@lionshistoryandgeography 2017 was fine, yeah 2018 was bad but alonso is literally a vettel, hamilton caliber driver
Wehrlein definitely deserves a second chance. He left for no reason because of Ericsson the talent-killer
to be honest you really only need a couple season to show your worth. those drivers would all in the same boat as him , Kmag, stroll ,and albon. all good but not great.
@@suuuuuuuu124 More than that. I'm sure that if Hamilton or Vettel were in that McLaren they'd look average compared to Alonso. Not because I think Alonso is a better driver, but because he is one of the absolute best at outperforming bad cars. Don't get me wrong, Hamilton can outperform a bad car like in 2009, but nobody can outperform a bad car as consistantly as Alonso.
He's racing for Aston this weekend - vettel caught COVID.
We should not forget that Mercedes would have signed him if Hamilton had declined the offer. Wonder how his career would have gone down if things went differently...
Rosberg would've wiped the floor with him.
@@jorgemedina5123 dont think so dont forget magnussen has verry good pace out performing most of the cars hes raced
eh he probably would've had podiums and some wins... but doubt he would've been championship material like Hamilton. Not at all. Think Vettel and other drivers would've displaced him in races, something about Hulkenberg in F1 is so meek and not sharp.
@@FreddyMacT he has a podium tho his debut dont understand how you can say hes not championship material when you probably say george is
@@martinberg3970 I am talking about Hulkenberg, not Magnussen. But Mag isn't champion material either.
Well this aged well
2010: Hulk races for Williams
2012: Hulk picked up by Force India after a year on the sidelines… wasn’t this a second chance already?!
Funny you talk about that... He is driving in the first race
I like how the video duration is 9:19
Considering Nico actually won at Le Mans with Porsche's 919 Hybrid LMP car
Exactly what I was thinking; took the thought from me. Everybody thought he really wouldn't be anything because of F1, but then LeMans.
Im not a big fan of kmag but he achived in his debut what nico couldnt achieve in 10 years in the sport
As I watch this, it was announced that Seb has tested positive for COVID, and will be replaced The Hulk
A few days later.
The Hulk replaces Vettel because of CoViD. We can see where he stands in a new car.
well ... this went from hope to reality real quick at least for the first race as a replacement for vettel (who is positive for Cov)
He jinxed, he did it once more.
"Not much risk of covid anymore" *Hulk gets called in the first race*
Let's stop with Hulkenberg please. He's a very good driver but you can't say a driver who had 9 (?) seasons in F1 deserves more chances.
You know who deserves a second chance? Pascal Wehrlein. P10 in a Manor. P8 in a 2017 Sauber. Unfair treatment
Maybe Felipe Nasr too. He was beating Ericsson in the same car in 2015 and 2016 yet was still shafted instead for Wehrlein.
And now he's got two IMSA titles and is currently leading this year too in the GTD category
That's my premise as well. Hulkenberg spent a decade in F1, so talking about a "second chance" is a bit out there. He was consistent but unspectacular... turning 35 this year and with new talent always emerging it's time to let him go.
@@pirozcontractor6006 The funny thing about Nasr is that he unintentionally dug his own grave by scoring points for Sauber in Brasil in 2016. Without these points, Manor would have been in front of Sauber and maybe that would have been enough to keep the team alive. But Manor quit and Wehrlein went on to take Nasr's seat.
vettel just got tested positive for covid 😭 hulkenberg will be back!
Watching this Video after Vettel got Covid and Hulkenback confirmed
Damn.... Yesterday I saw thsi. And Today Hulk is Driving. 😂😂😂
He had his chance and bottled all his chances of getting podiums. People say that Vettel is old and should retire and yet Hulk is literally the same age
Yeah but the Hulks form hasnt dropped off a cliff like vettels has . The guy is a shell of his former self.
You got what you wanted, even if it is just for one race.
Well well well, if it isnt the consequences of John Warren's actions
Hulkenback 3.0
I think you should have mentioned that Nico scored a pole position in 2010
ngl i forgot🥲
@@JohnWarren No worries, happened over 10 years ago, sometimes we forget things 😅😁
nothing much came of that either.....:-)
@@stratman9449 sure, but for transparency‘s sake his accomplishments should be mentioned, otherwise it feels like something’s omitted
@@JohnWarren Nico Hülkenberg should join the Indycar championship. I think winning the Indy 500 would be a pretty big thing then simply finishing 9th or 10th in a race. I think he has the ability to compete for the top 5 spots in the Indycar championship he should make the move while he can because many F2 graduates are now considering to join the series because of little or no seats being available in F1.
This man has thrown away more podiums than balls thrown in an entire game of baseball sure I love him he’s a really fun driver and one of my favourites and sure I would love to have him back but there are just better options
nah not really only a few no more than any one else.
@@steviegbcool There really isn’t anybody out there it’s just people like to throw that phrase around. Like now way telling me that Zhou/Mazepin pre firing is better 😂
Nico, just like JEV, were both heavily shafted by their height and weight. Constantly driving overweight cars. So no - I don't think he will return or get any better results even if he is a superb driver, one of the best from his generation (if not the fastest from that crop). That is a shame. But he would rip some a** in WEC, that is for sure. He is a smart and fast driver - perfect for endurance racing.
Isn’t George Russell very tall as well? He’s doing well against Lewis in Mercedes.
@@Loki-sk7bi Yes but he is very light unlike Nico and JEV. Its how people are built. George (70kg) is 3kg lighter than Lewis (73kg). Nico i believe was about 75-76kg. Doesn't seem much but it is. Especially if your team mate is much lighter and you are only compared to them (Perez was about 63kg while Nico was 75kg). Like when JEV moved to FE where the weight limit was less extreme - he instantly took pole and joked to Marko "look what i can do when my car is not overweight compared to Kvyats". JEV was 70kg while Kvyat 58kg. So kvyat could put the ballast where he wanted and get the balance better while JEV was hospitalized for his starvation diet.
This aged unreal
and here we go, our Hulk got his chance NOW!
This aged like wine 💀
The timing man👌👌
Nico Hulkenberg is my favourite driver so obviously I think that he deserves a seat
He just did. Well… only for one race but still NICO IS BACKKKKK
Well now he has a chance this weekend XD
No, he should go Indycar or other spec-series car. 90% he will get podium(s) in his first year in indycar
Well, this aged well
This video was insanely well timed wow
Watching this a day late and as he just got a replacement for seb. Yes he should be back full time in f1.
The timing of this upload is insane
As much as I like the idea of Hulkenberg to return to F1, honestly he already had his time in F1 and he's a midfield driver at best no matter how many people say how great he is.
Plus when you have one of the most all time most humiliating record in F1 history of having the most "Grand Prix Races Without A Podium" that will likely never be beaten anytime soon, you know he doesn't have a chance of coming back.
That aged well
Dude went his entire career without a single podium, and don't give me the car excuse. He had chances with teams that could compete for podiums and failed to take advantage of those chances.
Le Mans is a team effort. Honestly you could be carried by the other 2 drivers.
don't forget the car.....:-)
he got a pole. thats more than Perez...
@@steviegbcool well perez has podiums
@@puuoyevigannogreven8781 after 3 seasons together they had almost identically points tally. podiums dont mean much. Johnny Herbert had 3 more wins to Alesi 1 who would you say was the better driver? luck plays a lot.
@@steviegbcool that just shows that Checo was able to get those freak results without choking unlike Hulkenberg.
I guess today's news about Vettel means...yes.
I saw you were talking that some people think that you are overusing text on screen format. I disagree, I'm pretty fluent in English but it can sometimes be hard to follow (you can easily not pay 100% attention and overhear something and then you have to rewind) what is said especially with special terminology such as one in racing. This isn't such a problem with static images. We from (smaller) foreign countries are pretty used to subtitles and if we overhear a word we can just catch up with text pretty easily. I found that I had to focus fully on your facecam when talking even though lip reading helps a bit... So please, keep the format 👍
Well... This aged well... Sort of.
Aaaand the Hulk is back for this weekend 😂
the timing of this video with the vettel announcement is crazy
Well this aged interestingly
jwf1 are you some sort of time travelling wizard 😭 what are the odds this video comes out less than a day when hulkenberg gets announced
THIS AGED SOOOOOO WELLLLLL
He got a second chance now

Is it possible to learn your power of future sight?
Also K-mag vs The Hulk once again 😂
Perfect timing, hulk is racing for Aston as seb as covid! time to prove his worth
this aged well
stand in for seb
Well you have your wish….. with Vettel contracting Covid, Hulk is standing in for him
As a big hulk fan I’m biased but I think he should have a seat over stroll zhou and latifi but I think young drivers like piastri and pourchaire should get a shot at f1 as well. Even though I love hulk, I still thought that piastri should’ve gotten the haas seat and I think that whoever wins f2 should also get their chance. I think that hulk does deserve his seat but young drivers should still get the chance to prove themselves
500% should have it over Latifi or Stroll
Aged like fine wine
he got it now
This aged superbly
Huuuuulkenberg!
it's actually Hüüüüülkenberg...but as brits you wouldn't know that.....:-)
Man you must be a fortune teller after the recent news.
The timing of this video couldn't be better. Speedy recovery to Seb though
This video aged well enough-ish
That's quite some timing as today Seb tested positive and Hulkenberg gets another chance.
I remember when seb had a slow start last year people were pushing for hulk
Then seb stuck it on the podium and looked at the people like you were saying
He's spent too long in F1 without any impressive results
he is a somewhat consistent and skilled driver but after 10 years, he should have something to show for that
overall, i think there are more deserving drivers out there who haven't gotten a chance to show their talent who should get picked over him (as well as obvi kmag who imo, didn't get enough time in a decent enough car here to show his worth fully)
Hulkenburg never had a decent car. he outperformed sainz when at renault. pretty much matched Perez and riciardo. Kmag done pretty much nothing after his podium in his first race.
@@steviegbcool Brazil 2012 he could have won but binned it
@@steviegbcool Ricciardo? Dog, Daniel beat him by over 100 points in 2020... that's embarrassing levels of disparity.

FWVLIW: I really do think Hulk's career has been one of performance not living up to his obvious talent.
But is that him or his never having had the opportunity to shine? I really think F1 is all about the car and team not the driver. Hulk has never really been in the right place at the right time. eg: JB is a world champion because he got one shot and took it. He came very close to a career much like Hulk's.
So should he have another chance? Absolutely, one opportunity could change everything. But does anyone 'deserve' their place less?
he didn't even get a podium but look at checo, had multiple podiums inspite of being in midfield cars
Total nonsense. Excuse after excuse.
If Hulkenberg was what you say Jenson Button would have 14 wins not 15. Remember Brazil?
But no Hulkenberg choked as ever just when a result was near.
Well this aged amazingly just for one day later lol
The best drivers should be there and he is Top 20 for sure
