I couldn't agree more! Those "progress trackers" are not tracking progress at all - they are tracking effort. And effort only results in progress when it is well directed. How do you know whether your effort is well directed? Remember why you embarked on this adventure. Was it to appreciate the literature and the culture? To get a better job? To have a deeper connection with speakers of that language? Have you made any step, however small, closer to that goal? Can you read that book, sing that song, earn that money, write that e-mail, laugh at that joke, have that conversation? Do you feel more confident doing these things? Celebrate that, instead of ticking a box.

I love my language trackers but I don't think I have ever thought they helped me in my process but helps me keep myself aware of how i'm spending my time. I have anxiety and often spend time in my head doing nothing. my trackers help me keep track of that. plus like most of us who use trackers we spend way more time actually studying than we do tracking. i agree its not for everyone but i'm not sure you understand why some of us track.

"I'm not sure you understand why some of us track" - probably, but I don't "prohibit" it or something. The aim of the video is to remind you that you CAN learn a language WITHOUT language trackers.
Trackers won't help against "often spending time in my head doing nothing"... And plus, it's OKAY to do nothing sometimes, there's no need to track it. If you're learning a language for work/business,etc., then fine, you understand you have to be pretty much organised, but if you're doing it as your hobby... Is there any need to be so hard on yourself with keeping track of how much time you learn / don't learn? Do it for pleasure 🙌🏻

@LanguageEasy I can only speak from personal experience. Language learning is a passion of mine. I dont try to judge myself but to gauge whether I'm meeting my goals. But I do this with all my goals not just language learning. And unfortunately when you have anxiety you can spend A LOT of time not doing anything, so it's good to pay attention to those times because it usually means my anxiety is high. My only point was I don't honestly think anyone believes they need to track to learn a language. It's just a personal choice and something they probably do anyway

Hi. I once started keeping a language tracker . I was enough for 4 days or so. I forgot to cross out the cells and realized that it is not necessary at all. I rely on my own feelings, where I need to push and what I want to learn.

I love this channel even though I often used google translate and chat GPT for translation of languages around the world while I am online gaming globally. Thanks Language Easy💟

So you're against motivational tools and organization?
I don't think anyone is under the impression you "need" these things. They just help keep you on track.
Tracking progress has been extremely helpful for keeping up my motivation. Not because I think it's an accurate way to determine my level, but because it shows how much effort I've put in already. Same with posting goals, it just helps keep you accountable.
As for daily plans, that's just to help people remember to do things and to make a habit. You say "trust your brain" but many people (such as myself) are very scatterbrained and need to schedule things to help us keep track.
If you can remember what you need to do everyday and actually do it, that's amazing and I'm jealous! But unfortunately, not everyone is like that.
I still appreciated the video! Gave me things to think about

By "motivational tools" you mean language trackers? That's actually hard for me to think of how they can motivate... But what tool I'm not against at all is reading and discovering more about culture and history of my target language, thinking what learning it might bring to my life - that's a way better motivational tool (in my view!)
And, as I've mentioned several times, the only thing "I'm against" is that exaggeration which is shown a lot now. I'm here to remind other learners that it is OKAY and possible to learn languages WITHOUT tracking, as an example, your progress 🙌🏻 Just think WHY you're doing it, be interested in the language itself, and you won't need to set up any goals - they'll be in front of you. I never said I'm against organisation - I'm against exaggeration :)
If you're that kind of person who doesn't think TOO much about planning and lets yourself "go with a flow" sometimes, without pressuring yourself, then I'm happy such things help you in your study process :) Thank you for sharing your thoughts here!

@@LanguageEasyYou're right, sorry I was a bit hyperbolic. I was just summarizing my point before my wall of text.
It sounded like you were dead set against these things being used at all, but that could just be how I took it.
I'm not sure how Language Tracking could NOT be seen as motivational. Motivation is the main reason people use it. You see how much time and effort you put in. It's a more tangible way to look at your journey. Otherwise it can just seem like you just threw all that time into a void and have nothing to show for it. Plus it's easy to forget how long you've been doing something and give up because you feel like you're making no progress anyway.
For me and many others, language tracking reminds me of how much this means to me and also that I MUST be making progress if I put that much time into it. Plus it just gives good brain chemicals to see the bar go up.
It's also good for pinpointing what areas you've been neglecting without realizing it.
I agree that it's not an accurate measure of language level though.
All this being said...I also don't waste time drawing it in a journal. I just have apps that have timers that I turn on when I start and turn off when I'm done.

It's just that I'm more into seeing "real" (?) progress - for example, looking at how much I write in my t.l., checking up my actual abilities of expressing myself in a language, also how much I read in it, etc.
When I see I'm happy with my results, it gives me much more joy than just looking at trackers full of green ticks... Anyways, it's a question of preferences, I guess.
It's good it doesn't make you anxious or something, because there are a lot of people struggling with it just because they fail their "goals" or their trackers don't really show true results.
