- 6 Track riding tips with John McGuinness MBE | Bike Social track day - Donington Park.
Last week, we attended a Bennetts Bike Social Track day at the amazing and international race circuit, Donington Park.
We were blessed with incredible weather, a fantastic vibe and some of the best track riding I’ve done.
As part of the Bennetts day, John McGuinness, 23 time Isle of Man TT winner and MBE was on track, riding alongside everyone who attended - wow! John actually offered to ride out together, following for part of the session and then to show the right way round for the remainder and give some tips at the end. To say it was an incredible experience is an understatement, following a living racing legend around one of your favourite tracks was a “pinch yourself” moment!
We spoke both off and on camera and I’ve summarised below the main points that John gave me. Obviously, these are non-exhaustive tips and were based on my riding in that session, but they are applicable to all riders who either would like/ or do ride on track and are based on 30 years of racing experience and countless track days in all conditions, on a variety of machines, circuits and a few crashes along the way. As part of the day, Geoff rented a Yamaha R6, while we are having some issues (to put it mildly) with his GSXR1000r. This was an excellent service that was provided during the day from Yamaha Track experience www.yamaha-track-experience.c.... In this video, we also discuss initial thoughts on the Yamaha R6 race and why it might just be a fantastic option for track day riders, combining great yet non intimidating power, with rock solid handling and stability to make a machine that riders can really build their confidence and track riding ability!

I was there on a gsxr 750 too! (On Avons) I saw you but didn’t know about the gsxr project until now. Will come and say hello next time!
Nice one James, yes do so! Possibly last day for us this year on track, but hope to be doing plenty next year. Yes, loving the GSXR 750 now, the upgrades Ive done have made a massive difference, the game changer being suspension. All the best, Aaron KNOX

Any tips from the great TT legend are always welcomed. I watched him at BH in the Ducati cup series and he was nothing short of awesome. Bet you were star struck riding with John.

Will you guys be uploading that “better tires” in another video?
Yes will be releasing vid on Pirelli rosso corsa 2 v soon (the ones used in this video) and then moving across to dunlop gp d212 which should give much better track performance. Thanks, Aaron Knox
@@KnoxArmourI don’t know why you say Rosso Corsa 2 tyres are no good for track. I run them on a S1000RR in fast group on a GP track here in Australia and they are awesome. Set them to 30/26psi cold and even without warmers they can handle almost everything you throw at them.
@@MrDeepseadweller can't be riding fast enough 😂... No seriously, I've had 90mph power slides on my 750 on these on track. They're a great road tyre, but no good for fast track work. Need something more track oriented... unless they make a different compound for you guys in Australia. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
@@KnoxArmour Fair enough. I doubt the tyres are any different here in Oz but I guess we have different expectations.
People need to stop talking about these track days, they're the best kept secret. I've done Brands, Donny and Oulton this year, hoping for the full set next year....
