  • After riding 2000km its time to say some words about these wheels. How they perform, how they brake, how they behave in windy conditions and what is like to brake in wet. Overall what is like to live with these wheels.
    Update April/2021 - as good as new, true wheels, roling well, holding speed well.

    When you ride in wet or humid best is to have disc brakes. I have it on all my bikes. Stopping power is like amazing, yes really. It could save your life

      Well, surely it is not like rim brake or disc brake. But I had a duathlon race with really heavy rain. Something what you never want to experience, and definitely not on a race. One must be really cautious with braking and brake in advance counting with longer braking ways, so could brake any time. But definitely that is a disadvantage of these wheels. If you often ride in the wet, I would also look for something else.

      @@activezone8574 I'm from the Netherlands where it often rains or recently has rained leaving huge amount of pools of water where you sometimes have to go through. Sometimes during rain, sometimes heavy rain. Sometimes turn right after a pool, where a car doesn't see me despite everything. Sometimes a short downhill following a blind alley to which I must yield where there's rarely traffic, but now that I am there... Sometimes weird dogs or even crazier dog owners.
      Being able to reliably brake hard is very useful

    Good review. Are the wheels still good?

      Absolutely. They are now on my new bike (a review still to come) but they are just fantastic. Although this time I would probaly go for a deeper well, maybe 60mm.

    So braking performance in the rain is poor, right? What about in the dry? I’m looking for a pair of new wheelsets, because my old wheels (Reynolds Strike SLG) , the braking surface was melted during a descent.

      Hi Risayogi, in dry no issues with braking. Last summer I was in Austria and got into the mountains with these wheels, well, next time I take an Alu wheel. So, the wheels are great for flat and rolling terrain, but not ideal for descents, in my opinion. I just had to pull the brakes too hard, and my arms got tired. The rims did not melt, but it was not a long descent either.

    Nice video. I have an older pair of F6r's. I bought them 2nd hand for 500 euros and they still look great with the shiny carbon weave. I love them but I'm scared I'll break a spoke so I tend not to use them as much as I'd like. Have you had any issues with a spoke breaking?

      @activezone8574  Před 3 lety

      Hi! I haven't had any issues with my wheels. The spokes are just fine. I am 72kg, plus clothes, but I think the wheels are well built. They should resist the load :) I think by now I must have 5000km in the wheels, or maybe more and planning to put in few times more :))

    I think that F4D are the Disc version. Aren't those the F4R?
    Thanks.

      Absolutely right! 😉 I mistyped it. Thanks for the remark, I will try to correct it where I can.

      @@activezone8574 thank you so much for answering. I have been considering the RYOT44. They offer life time warranty on that model, but I'm on the fence because I can't find reviews and I never have seen the FFWD wheels before in any shop or with the guys that I ride with. They are also a bit more expensive than the zipp 303s, but I like the DT350 on the ffwd.

      RYOT44 seems to be a new release. What I really like beside the aero benefits, the stiffness. Probably the RYOT44 is also a stiff wheel. I didn't know what is a wheel stiffnes like I got these FFWD wheels. Then I swapped them back to my old Zonda wheels to train with them on the roller. What I can say, that I am totally satisfied with my FFWD wheels, the hubs are smooth, I do enjoy riding them :)

      I also decided to get these wheels based on some review from the net, I guess it was Cycling or something similar channel. They also praised the wheels, and they are on a good price. I went for it, and not regret it. They are indeed nice wheels. If you can get them on a good price then its a smart choice.

      @@phoenixaroui8712 well, that's ok. I have got mine for 1024Euro but with DT350 on bike24.com. The 1200Euro for the dt240 version is ok, more or less the same deal I have got.
