How many amps is the alternator? I think there are two types
150 and 170 which is correct

I did this replacement on my 2015 Silverado this morning in the parking lot of the parts store. I also replaced the serpentine belt while I was at it for good measure. Tip: if you have trouble getting the new belt on to the alternator, remove it off of the tensioner roller, place the belt on to the alternator first, then the belt will slide right on to the tensioner roller. With the tension relaxed, of course.

This video was awesome. I replaced the alternator on my 2015 Suburban and the simple way of showing how to do it in this video made it so simple and saved me hundreds of dollars. Thank you!

Great vid! Thanks! Tapping the bushings out was the worst part for me. I very carefully used a Vice grip to close them a bit, then a couple light taps did the trick. Much easier and less stressful not worrying about breaking off those ears.

Excellent video, especially giving the wrench sizes and torque numbers! Also, the detailed comments on how to release the alternator charging connector and the crankcase vent hoses were helpful - no plastic was broken.
The reman'd alternator was too tight to drop in. The bronze bushings in the front are split, and can be moved forward. There wasn't enough room to use a (plastic) hammer to move them forward.
I clamped vise grips *tightly* on outside of the right bushing, then slightly pulled as I turned the bushing back and forth. The left bushing was more stubborn and the vise grips kept slipping off. But a pry bar with a bit of jigging easily pushed the bushing out a bit.
The pry bar jigging: Cut a small piece of wood a bit less than distance between the back of the bushing and the face where the back of the alternator mates. I used a short piece of angle iron to bridge between the back mounting screw holes, which serves as the anchor for the pry bar.
Moving the bushing: Place the cut piece of wood against the back of the left bushing, then place the pry bar tip against the back of the wood. The pry bar handle will be to your right and fulcrum of the pry bar will be against the angle iron. Push the pry bar handle toward the engine and the bushing will easily (at least for me) move forward.
With the bushings moved forward, the alternator dropped in with no restriction.Tightening the mounting bolts will draw the bushings back in to their desired positions.

Did repair on 2014 Silverado 1500 2wd LT, only difference was the two tubes with the grey lock on the air compartment box, there was only one of them on the left side. Thanks!! 👍

While some models are different in the position of the air vent, and exact location of the alternator, the principles you describe to pay attention as to how to do it, what comes first and what next, etc., are very informative. I was able to change the alternator on 2014 GMC Yukon. Saved money. Thank you.

    Great video, thanks!
Wrench sizes were spot-on, everything was where you said it'd be... really smooth & easy process!
One thing I'd like to add, as I just did this, is those bushings have a cut/groove in them & if you have a small pair of vice-grips to clamp on the outside of them, they're MUCH EASIER to tap / back out & give you the clearance you need to put the new alternator in. I messed around for ~ 10 min trying to tap those out a bit, with no luck, before I finally saw that groove & immediately thought "vice-grips!"...
    TWO THUMBS UP!
    =)

heads up anytime you disconnect the battery... could trip emission codes that may require driving hundreds to reset. my suggestion make sure emissions are completed prior to battery disconnect (or aren't due for a couple months or more).
