    I once got a 88 Buick with a dead fuel pump 30 miles out of a dirt road "short cut" in the boonies of Eastern MT by cracking the fuel line at the filter under the driver's seat, letting it dribble into a beer bottle I found along the road and cramming a random vacuum line down inside. Crossing the Montana badlands at WOT 1/2 mile at a time. The people with me thought I was a miracle worker. Tricks like you show here can save a fellas bacon.

    oh fill the fuel bowl BEFORE pumping the accelerator! what a concept, unlike when you busted me pumping the throttle with a dry bowl, "force of habit" haha I see you did NOT use the Danny Brown method of pouring a quart of gas down the carb AND all over the carb AND all over the intake AND all over the floor and then sparking it off with the battery sitting right next to it. Where is your sense of adventure Jeff!! haha. oh, and it makes WAY too much sense to have a fire extinguisher nearby! haha

    Observation: I have noticed that a chevy 20 pick up seems to be more heavy duty than the chevy 20 van. The van only has 6 bolt wheels while the pickup has 8 bolt wheels. Don't know why I always feel that they should be the same. Also I have seen a semifloating rear axle on vans and the full floating axle on vans.

  • @highwatercircutrider

    That fuel pump is only $29.00 two bolts and two hose clamps, easy job, considering the old pump probable has a tired or torn diaphram.

  • @heliarche
    @heliarche Před 11 lety

    Thanks for showing that trick on the fuel pump.Fill it with carb cleaner, rattle it around, and blow it out backwards.Use low air pressure though?Once she's cleaned up, that's going to make a nice ride for somebody.What are your thoughts on ethanol ruining pump diaphragms?I just rebuilt the one for my Scout, went together nicely, but I'm getting gas in the oil.I screwed up or something wiped my pump out again...

      For those of us suffering from the oppression of the EPA out here in California let me say I enjoyed your videos and have recently picked up a 1977 Dodge tradesman 200 that was ordered locally with 1/2 ton suspension and brakes but a 440 RB engine that has MSD ignition system from the factory.
      So to answer the question of cut off year for smog in CALIFORNIA Is anything built in 1976 and newer has to be smogged. Boats and motorcycles are exempt and they have laws forbidding 2 stroke jet ski's from being used on fresh water lakes. Diesel truck which used to be exempt are now required to pass a visual and pass a test that measures sulphur particultates by the millionth. Hope that helps. Keep the faith VAN ON !!
