  • Juilliard trained opera singer reaction to Jose Jose performing El Triste en vivo live in 1970.
José Rómulo Sosa Ortiz (17 February 1948 - 28 September 2019), known by his stage name José José, was a Mexican musician, singer and occasional actor. Born into a family of musicians, José began his musical career in his early teens playing guitar and singing in serenade. He later joined a jazz and bossa nova trio where he sang and played bass and double bass. José José found success as a solo artist in the early 1970s. Demonstrating his tenor vocal ability with a stunning performance of the song "El Triste" at a Latin music festival held in Mexico City in 1970, he climbed the Latin charts during that decade. Having achieved recognition as a balladeer, his singing garnered universal critical acclaim.

Fact: Roberto Cantoral, who is the composer of this song, wrote it when he was traveling to his mother's funeral, so the song has more feeling because it does not express the pain of the loss of a love that could have been temporary, but rather an eternal and wonderful one like the kind that only your mother can give you.
That's why the song expresses so much pain Because he lost part of his heart, that it goes away together with his mother.

One of the things about Spanish phonetics that makes it so romantic is the fact that there is only one pronunciation of each vowel, more "open" as you mentioned.. Each sentence is linked as well, so it's like one long word without a stop. It translates so well to singing. I majored in Spanish in college, focusing more on Iberian or Peninsular Spanish, but Mexican Spanish has such a smooth, almost "kiss like" fluidity. This made me smile :) well watching you sing along made me smile.

@@maggiereneemusic Marco Antonio Muñiz was regarded as one of the best (If not the best) singers and performers in Mexico at that time along with Agustín Lara, in fact Marco Antonio Muñiz was nicknamed "El lujo de México" (The luxury of Mexico) because of how well dressed, sharp and impeccable of a performer he was both in his vocal delivery and in his physical appearance and at that time he had been at the top of his career, in fact some people started to believe he had let himself go a bit at that particular point in time by getting a little sloppy in certain aspects of his life, putting on some weight and it was all product of how overconfident he was of himself and how everyone was always speaking wonders of him somehow, (like many artists who are at the top tend to care less for their image over time).
You have to remember Marco Antonio Muñiz was at the top at this time in his career and was regarded as one of the top artists of Latin America as well and for him this was shocking, there out of the blue comes a young man, handsome, confident, sharp, dressed in the style of the time, who has an overwhelming and powerful vocal ability and whose technical skills are ahead of many of the veteran singers of the time, obviously he was amazed and stunned by it all.
I like to see it myself in my head like the moment when Jimi Hendrix "killed God" playing and singing for the first time in England in front of an audience I'm which Eric Clapton, the "God of guitar" at that time, was and no matter how good was Clapton at playing guitar or playing guitar while singing, Hendrix was ten times better, more inventive, revolutionary and more theatrical and engaging than him…
I bet Marco Antonio Muñiz wanted the earth to swallow him at that moment and he thought he was done, maybe also containing a lot of jealousy but like the story of many good, mature and respectful artists they both became very good friends and to this day Muñiz reminds him with love and respect.

Hey Maggie, the guy who had the look of his face, his name is Marco Antonio Muñoz, he’s called El Lujo de México, The Luxury of Mexico, at the time he was, and still is, one of México’s greatest voices. He was in disbelief when he listened Jose Jose singing. If you haven’t done so, please look him up, I think you’ll have a very pleasant surprise as well. Actually, many people in the audience, at least the first two rows, were filled by singers who already had a career and were well known, as Angélica María, Alberto Vázquez.

He actually placed third, the results were fixed, clearly. No one really remembers who the first two places were, at least not as much as people remember Jose Jose. Hey Maggie, Its interesting that you would pick Jose jose to react to. I sang as a guest artist at a concert of his in 1979. I think it was in Mexico City but my Memory is a little foggy. Couple things I do remember are his singing is very "conversational". I had just finished up a two year stint of do William Tell on tour so I was pretty "cooked" mentally As I recall I sang a couple of the William Tell Arias, and we sang one duet. He was very easy to blend with as you might imagine with the tambour of his voice. I wish I could remember more of the details about his approach to singing, it was just a long time ago.

@@cperez1000 Sorry no videos of me, I had throat cancer in 1988 as have been unable to sing since then. There were some times I sang on TV shows, but that was so long ago now I'm sure the videos are long disposed of. I´m not mexican but was one of those who mentioned José José long notes when commenting in one of Dimash´s videos. One of my favourites
He was not the winner that year because received more votes a female singer who sang somethig about a "in vogue" subject but José José become a star after that rendition

For someone that is not fluent in Spanish, and that says she has forgotten a lot of the classes, you have a VERY good pronunciation and the roll of the r's ♪♫ BEAUUUUUTIFULLY ♫♪
    Edit:
Everything you're saying about José José, I feel about Andrea Bocelli, he can be singing the (in my ears and eyes) the hardest tones, and barely opening his mouth or look like he is trying hard.
And now, even though I always watch your videos to almost the end, have finally seen the emoji of the day lol 💔
