My Boy! used to be the easy go-to for GBA Emulation on Android. I'd argue that it's been dethroned by Pizza Boy, but what are your thoughts?

What about "John GBA Lite" ?
I think it has an Ad Banner on the main screen/during settings, not too obtrusive, which can be blocked with a system/ad blocker. Not sure how it compares overall to PizzaBoy. But I really don't like MyBoy Free for many reasons, the paid version is okay I guess.

Pizza Boy paid is my absolute favotite gba emulator and its all because of its customizability and aesthetic! I'm all about replicating the original hardware so having borders around the screen that make it look like you're playing on a real GBA is so cool! Its also way more user friendly as all your roms have their original boxarts so finding them is so easy!
In my opinion my boy is better than pizza bot but I would love my boy to have box arts
Do you know how to make 2 different ROMs connect? Like, play Emerald with either RS or FRLG.
I customize mine to replicate the look of the console and i absolutely love it, it's a bit hard to do but the result are absolutely worth it. :>
rather crazy to see the installation differences and number of reviews. Just goes to show most people who have been playing gba emulation just downloaded myboy years ago and never swapped, like myself haha. never really minded about other stuff until recently since the games worked fine, everything else was just extra goodies.

Hi Mr. Sujano, I randomly found your channel and I enjoy it. Thanks for all the great emulation info. Have you ever looked into the John brand of emulators on Android? I'm curious your thoughts on them, particularly the Gameboy one since it can play the whole family and not just GBA.
I Haven't Tried Pizzaboy, but I've been using My Boy for 4 years now and it still is working great
I'd give it a try! I switched when I got a new tablet two years ago. I used myboy for so so long but pizzaboy I feel honestly outshines it. The shaders are helpful with some games, the skins while sounding silly really have helped me not miss buttons. Also pizzaboy gets updated all the time which is nice.

@@quchi7232 honestly android tablets are trash compared to iPads but your best bet is always the Galaxy tab series don't focus on anything else.
I uninstalled my boy after it started asking for permission of my accounts
I've donwloaded the free version just to test some games, but I ended buying the paid version just because it's so good AND it doesn't contain any annoying ADs. I love when developers just leave their apps without ADs, it's kinda like an incentive for me to support their amazing work.

VBag on Symbian S60v3 was the first and most memorable GBA emulator for me. It showed me the potential and future of mobile emulation.
I remember installing that on my Nokia N73 hahaha.

I purchased a refurbished Nokia e63 just to play gba on it again and other emulators like picodrive, vsun and vboy lol
New to your channel, appreciate your comprehensive review on these GBA emulators on Android. Looks like Pizza Boy is the way to go.
I use PizzaBoyBasic nowadays to play Super Mario World. On-screen touch buttons in PizzaBoy are so much better compared to other emulators (RetroArch, SNESx9) maybe because of buttons multitouch. So in mario games grabbing shell while walking/jumping is very easy. There is option to press inbetween A/B button or even seperate A+B button so even doing long jump in game is easy.

I've been using myboy for 7 years along with my very old device (Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0) and I'm pretty satisfied with it

I just realized there isn't an mgba standalone Android version (or gpsp for that matter), if there was I'd say to get that, but as a RetroArch core it's harder to recommend to anyone not already into RA or is only interested in emulating gba

@@fantasticfitra I'm sure it has its issues but for my use case of only using it to play mother 3 an OG smt my experience was perfect.
I use none of them atm because I emulate on PC, but my mom who was never into games has recently been consuming lots of trash mobile games on her tablet. So I've been thinking I should put an emulator on her tablet so she can play some actual quality :D I suggested it and she said it seems like fun, so yeah, thanks for the comparison ;) seems like pizza is the way to go as always.
Quite excited to see how she will fare playing something like pokemon for the first time :P I mean, it's easy, but you'll look different at games if you've got experience with them, right.

I like the myboy emulators buy I agree that pizza has replaced them - the UI and QOL improvements tip it over for me - pizza just looks and behaves nicer imo. But myboy is still an excellent emulator.
I've been really thinking through for the past few days whether to play gba emulator on mobile or in my ps vita. The thoughts that I had is that my phone is always with me and I can trade pokemons with just one phone. On the other hand, the vita has better graphics than the mobile emulator, although it's tough to carry with and it's a micro usb charging port while we all use type-c now a days, and cannot trade pokemons. What are your thoughts?
Does it have filters like XBRZ? I'm using a pretty weak Samsung a14 g5 to use Retroarch's GBA core, and the ScaleFX hybrid shader makes Pokemon Unbound look great (Especially combined with the color correction).

Personally, I never had any issues with the free version of MyBoy on my old but lovely Galaxy S4 Mini.
This phone fits perfectly on the phone clip for the 8bitdo SF30/Pro as well, making it a real nice GBA experience when in use 🙂
Pizza Boy is actually even new to me, probably because I mostly use the GPi these days to play my GB/C/A games, my GBA sadly needs some serious cleaning which I can't provide.
I've tried every version of PizzaBoy and My Boy and I gotta say, both were really good, but if I gotta pick one, it'd be My Boy. I've been using it for so long, I even forgot to check its update. Welp, it's probably the best gba emulator for me till now*
The only thing complaint about those emulator is the compatibility with Xbox one controllers. For some reason RT and LT is not recognized by those and some other emulators
Because GBA only had one row of shoulder buttons
This is an android os thing as apps need to enable support for the xbox one controllers triggers manually for an indvidual app, drastic alao has a similar issue with not using its analog triggers.

I still have both yesterday I tried to mirror pizza boy with samsung dex and kept running into a issue where the screen would not show used my boy instead. I do agree with you though my boy was good for its time but trailed off with better support coming from pizza boy.
I'm so annoyed with pizzaboy because the menu and sound UI buttons can't be moved around and I keep exiting the games mid play, and MyBoy's screen gets cut off because it doesn't have high Res, so ATM I'm forced to use RetroArch :/ Lemuroid is good but can't move buttons around, also annoying.
Is there a real advantage for Pizza Boy Pro over Retroarch, other than the steep learning curve?
I've used MyBoy! for several years, but it seems like the last update on 26 May 2023 has caused major issues for many users. It's deleted save files for some and it won't open roms anymore. Only an update can fix it now!

I’ve been using my boy for literal years and I’ve never really wanted anything more.
its been long time now, I mostly emulate with my PC now days, but I do have plan to fix of my old phone and buy Bluetooth Controller to play on the go again, and I do have MyBoy paid Apk version in my hdd(its been share long time ago by community I think at the time its been 2 or 3 year since the last update) so maybe I will still use MyBoy, coz its still work and I don't have any complain anything back then.
GBA actually my first emulation experience using Intel Pentium 4.. look how advance emulation scene compare right now..
Will they ever update the myboy to be more relevant for newer android version.

Mr. Sujano, I bought the PizzaBoy Pro because I've watched this review. But I am bit dissapointed on the performance, whenver I play on landscape mode ang when I touch the screen the GBA display change its size.. Can you please help me if this is a bug or some settings That i messed up.

The only reason I don't play MyBoy is because for some goddamn reason it won't emulate my Megaman Battle Network 6 Cybeast Gregar.

My boy is great back then I remember since I didn't grew up having a GBA cause we're poor. And then when I aquire my 1st phone and I discover emulator I have blast. But pizzaboy is much more better I cant deny that so pizzaboy is a go in gba android emulator

Hey sujano I need advice on my old phone my boy used to be able to read sd card but I can't see it on the device I'm using now. Pizza boy does read it though so what happened? Both devices are redmi phones. I don't use the old phone that's my wife's now so I don't know if my boy changed or it's the device.
Pizza Boy is the emulator I use, perfect emulator definitely worth the 4.99 for both GBA and GBC.
I like pizza boy more because of the skins it makes me feel like holding a real Gameboy

I like MyBoy because it has link cable support.
I tried both the apps but MyBoy offers Link Trades even in Free Version but Pizza Boy requires a paid version. So you can't trade Pokemon seamlessly in Pizza Boy.
Pretty sure this is false. You need someone to be the server and the server needs a paid myboy app

If you want to play Game Boy Color games or lower it is compatible to My Boy emulator...Pizza Boy is only compatible on Gameboy Advance rom...you dont need to compare this two. they are different in many way... btw i use My Boy emulator..

My Boy used to be my emulator of choice, but since retroarch I never use stand alone 8-16 bit emulator anymore because a lot of feature Retroarch given (like that excellent Crt Geom shader that emulate CRT TV appearance for max nostalgia)

The best are John ness and snes9x ex+. But the snes one has been very laggy lately even on a snapdragon 821 first pixel. John is better in smoothness with no lag audio or not but the on screen controls to me are better on snes9x

Cause I heard that one is less demanding but I even seen more recent reviews of people with high end devices still experiencing lag with the app lately. My old android pixel Xl 2016 runs John ness snes completely smooth and it has a fps counter to show it staying around 59-60fps
My family and I, in our 30's still battle Pokemons from ruby, sapphire, emerald, fire red and leaf green lol I just wish the ds emulator has Bluetooth connection to battle wirelessly

MyBoy(Paid Version) is my way to Play GBA Games on Android, Works Fine 👍🏻.
Used Myboy nearly a decade ago at this point, it was a good emulatior for Pokemon rom hacks like Liquid Crystal.
Nowadays I just use the M-,GBA core in Retroarch. Mainly because I like the built in GBA color correction.

I was so disappointed with My Boy *paid*. I found after player for nearly 30 hours a save file just simply vanished. I ended up going with the .emu emulators. They are far more reliable.
