I was 11 the first time I watched Full Metal Jacket, with my Grandpa next to me and the only conversation we had after was:
"Was it really like that?" "Yeah."

Really? My father was a marine (joined in 1970) and eventually became a fighter pilot (retired as Lt. col in 92’). While he wasn’t grunt infantry, he said a lot of what’s depicted in the film about the corps was BS.

One of the best films ive ever seen, fun fact the outdoor tank scenes were actually filmed in south london.
It was all filmed in London. Kubrick refused to leave.
It was filmed around Chatham Dockyard, it’s an great film though.
fun fact, they didn't need to use any props or change anything, south london really does look like a war scene.
East London. Newham and the Isle of Dogs, both North of the river.

Not many people know this, but he also invented that colorful puzzle cube that has had countless fools trying to solve it for hours, days, years and centuries... he must be some kind of evil genius.

I remember being blown away by this when I first saw it and was really impressed by the ruined cityscape of Hue. It was a headpsin when I found out that was shot at the old Beckton gasworks in East London.

Personally, I think that "Full Metal Jacket" is among many of the best war movies that I ever felt so impressed about because movies like that show the real life of both the U.S. military and the Vietnam war itself and not a typical U.S. propaganda film.

So nice to see Matthew Modine in bit parts still. He was in The Dark Knight Rises and currently, Oppenheimer. He really was a major star in the 80s.

Never heard that before and I've read pretty much every biography of Kubrick. The film is based on a book called The Short Timers.

DAYUM! WB finally does something right! This ad for FMJ in 4K is so well edited. I also like how they didn't use the music that was utilized in film (like Nancy Sinatra's "These boots are made for walking")--they used 60s rock sounding library music. Great job. Now, I have get it again in 4K!

Its looks really great but that's not the trailer Stanley Kubrick made. In his trailer he didn't show any of the boot camp scenes. Mr. Kubrick always made his own trailers and choices for poster art.
