OK- This is fantastic. Absolutely impressed. Beautiful job by all. Thank you for keeping this piece that is close to our hearts alive with such style!!
Jordan Rudess/Dream Theater
Thanks so much, Jordan!
Thank you, Jordan! We're overjoyed you guys like it so much!
(Tom Kilworth, the conductor/orchestrator)
We'd better see clips of this in the pre-show or intermission of upcoming concerts :P
ZOMG ! It's the wizard ! Man I wish I could write like you guys !
I am a huge DT fan and I have never heard such a perfect cover of one of DT's tracks like this before. Extremely well done!!!!!!
THE MOMENT U UNDERSTAND BEING LABRIE ISNT EASY
krisjek nugraha Totally agree
His live performances are not perfect, but DAMN does he ever get the album recordings perfect.
You could say that about anyone in DT though.
My comment? Not really, recently his live performances are off key and barely enunciated - see czcams.com/video/1aYPyx5FgGs/video.html
He got 'Trapped inside this Octavarium' pretty much on point tho.
I'm actually offended that CZcams decided to interrupt this impeccable performance twice with ads
imagine not using an adblocker
Its their ads youtube didnt put this i dont see the copyright in the description
@@sriyansh1729 sick profile picture dude
CZcams vanced 😂😅
literally 4 for me it's insane
I'm glad the singer actually yelled the climax instead of just 180noscopeprettysinging like every single damn cover of anything on youtube.
Classic gaming reference. Love it.
180 no scope hahaha im dead
Drums not being loud enough aside, I really like this.
Acoustic guitars as well
Exactly! Good job
Turn the whole thing up. Then the drums should be loud enough.
Alex Holt But then, everything else would hurt my ears. :P
Ahh I see your problem... :D
One of the most astonishing videos on CZcams!
A big thank you to each and every one of you!
Astonishing? Surely you are an Dream Theater fan, like me =D
+Jéssica Duarte I thought nobody got it... Hehe
Just DT fans get it, I guess =] \m/
Me too Luk4s. Seen this show alive was one of the best things in my life.
16:17 You can just tell that the guitarist and keyboardist practised this solo together for HOURS, starting slow on the metronome and gradually getting it up to tempo. And even still, it takes all of their focus and concentration to get it right. This whole cover is brilliant, but that's my favourite part.
solo is easy ngl
@@slapp3r439 fax man, I can play that shit with my hands tied behind my back
This isn't live, each track was recorded seperately. They could even tweak the midi track for the keyboard to match the guitar.
dude the vocalist is really fucking close. Amazing cover. Fucking unreal.
22:47 Here comes your moment! 3. 2. 1....
In fairness, he also played marimba, xylophone, tubular bells, snare drum and tam-tam on the day :)
and they would have to start all over
It's fun because your comment ends by 3 2 1 and you have 1 2 3 likes.
Dang I missed it. 129 now :-P
😄😄😄😄😄😄
The electric guitar dude was having the time of his life.
It really saddens me to see that these absolutely mindblowing musicians (most of all the singer) are not being played nonstop on the radio, don't play in huge arenas and aren't recognised at all by the masses. Despacito has nearly 7 billion views while this masterpiece doesn't even have a million. It really makes me sad that so much wonderful art is overlooked by most people. These guys deserve so much more attention
Not everybody is looking for something so complex and interesting. Most people these days are looking for something easy, simple, and that requires no effort to enjoy. It just leaves things like Octavarium for the rest of us to truely enjoy :)
Its not our fault simple minds cant understand the music we listen to
No one has attention to listen to 23 minutes of music anymore
Because music has become more associated with the pop figure rather than its technicalities. Fame trumps everything
Auf jeden Fall 👍😀
No one talking about the fact that they actually put in the hidden vocal tracks from different songs on the album during Intervals??? Love the attention to detail in this!
yeahhh
they literally had a dude in the back just waiting to smash those cymbals at the very end
hahahaha! True!
I think he did the glockenspiels in section 2. It was still pretty funny though.
What if they went through the whole song perfectly then he forgot his cue
@@checkcheck411 and they need to do it all over again 🤣
22:50 😂
Dude, I mean, CZcams is full of covers, but THIS is the most amazing piece of art i've ever heard.
OH MY GOSH, THAT MODULAR SYNTH SOLO IN THE BEGINNING!!!! YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely! His entry and exit is Ear Candy 🍭!!!
19:00. Man, that kid does LaBrie justice!
This is mindblowing. Sometimes I wonder how great musicians from XVII / XVIII centuries would react to this modern orchestral music.
@Nono I thought the same, how they would react to the modern musical resources, no matter what name you give to it.
When ever a question like this comes up, I always reference Paul O'Neill from TSO.
"Mozart was the world's first rock star and Beethoven was the world's first heavy metal star. There's not a chance that if they were alive today that they wouldn't be using electric guitars and synthesizers."
I've always thought the final 4 notes on the French Horns really took an already awesome ending to the next level.
Same, man. Gives me chills every time, without fail.
Those 4 notes are 4 of the best notes ever played in music
Dan Hall YES. SAME THOUGHT
Leterren I’m pretty sure I’ve heard those 4 notes before, any idea where?
Dan Hall some dude, it's like I had been into a glorious trip through the music. Perfect ending
..... speechless.....
Or maybe I am trapped inside this octavarium.
I can't hear the original one without thinking of the boy with rosy cheeks.
I love this one as much as the original one.
Next, SIX DEGREES OF INNER TURBULENCE please
speaking my language, bro
Yes. Just yes.
I will pay for that
Well... I guess it´s not that simple.. but I´m up to pay for it too, or support in any way you want/need to do this... Let´s make a petition! kk
JRob38 oh god yes
Fucking flawless. DT needs to see this
Jordan loves this. 1st comment.
"Illumination theory" next time 😎👌
I think that this is the only "modern piece of music" (well, it turns 16 this year..) with Shine on you crazy diamond vibes.
It what?? Fuck, man… 16 years!
This is by far the best cover of the Octavarium ever made!
The Drums don´t sound as clear as they should be
"Oh, look at me, I'm a commenter on CZcams, so I have to say something negative about the video, no matter how awesome it is. What's the easiest thing to nitpick?"
Seriously, this was incredible. Ignore people who have nothing nice to say. It was awesome. :D
I agree and could not have said it better, Joshua. A lot of people put in quite an effort into this performance, and it's fantastic.
While i think that objective, RESPECTFUL criticism is something everyone can benefit from, i would agree with the fact that some people just like to throw with shit.
Oh, for sure. If you have a legitimate bit of honestly constructive criticism, that's one thing. That's how we get better. But attacking someone or some group with something you'd never dare say to their face is bullshit. And CZcams comments are the best place to find that bullshit. :)
wtf man, the violinists wear MAKE UP!!! This is ridiculous!! xD
+George Petropoulos trust you to find something negative 😂😂😂😂
This is phenomenal. Honestly I have tears in my eyes after watching this. You all have moved my heart and reminded me of what music can do. The purity with all of these younger musicians is what it's all about. Thank you all for playing your part no matter how big or small, since without each and every one of you (including the crash cymbal guy at the end) this masterpiece would not be complete. Cheers!
Hard to get through James' voice tone. this guy nailed perfectly.
My biggest concern is that this video isn't exactly 24:00 long
I have the disc and it last 24:00 but it lasts exactly 23:57 ripped, I'm guessing they cut out the silence. And just another 2 or 3 songs match the time it says on the backcover xD I always found that weird
Eriml RGG I dunno what you ripped with but my disc says 24:00, and my itunes rip says 24:00
+Alkalilee windows media player, it always does that, don't know why
Metronome?
Same here.
I wish I could go back in time to tell my band teacher to teach this to the whole class and play it at one of our school concerts. That would have been awesome!
I have no idea how I am just now finding this, having been a Dream Theater fan for about the last 15 years. But holy shit I am ecstatic. Fucking phenomenal job-- masterful and faithful.
First cover I've seen where the "trapped inside this octavarium" part is actually like the song. I love it
that moment when the flute player has better pocket than the player on the Score DVD..... and the vocal is a much better engineer/tuning/comp job than on The Astonishing.... saying that just heard 6:48 .
Can't imagine the amount of work this took. Hats off to you guys!
Also heard that :(
So beautiful. The power of music it's unmeasurable. I feel I must say a big "thank you" to everyone that participated, in any reason or scale in a project like that. It's not just playing. They must have preparation, on every instrument, build the anticipation, studying the song itself. It's a killer project. Brought tears to my eyes, not even kidding. Congratulations on this superb performance!
Dare I say Astonishing? Wow! Great job ladies and gentlemen! James Martin's vocals were spot on! Wonderful accomplishment on everyone's part!
Most ambitious Dream Theater cover. The Energy dude, shit.
Well fuck, that brought me to tears. Congrats on an amazing cover, I came here from Dream Theater's tweet. Keep going strong!
'Depois ainda me perguntam porque o DREAM THEATER é a melhor banda do mundo!!
A few years have passed since I first watched this video. I didn't know how great it was at that time. What an incredibly incredible art work this is! Oh, man. I cannot express my feeling with the vocabulary in my head.
Andy Pearce, You are a beast at guitar. You had big shoes to fill with this song, and you nailed it.
I would love to see a similar cover for A Change Of Seasons :D
Goddamn, this has to be one of the best and most beautiful videos I've seen in my life. If Jordan Rudess himself is impressed, it's because it is impressing. This is just marvellous
Agree
I keep listening to this awesome cover over and over again
So, basically the mathematical equation is: To equal the sound generated by the 5 musicians in Dream Theater, you need 12 band members combined with 35 orchestra members. 5 = 47. In all seriousness though, this is a great rendition of a masterpiece.
The vocalist is incredible, the whole perfomance is awesome! I'm breathless.
Now imagine 5 blokes pulling this off that’s dream theater
I'm still in tears long after the video finished. What a masterpiece of a cover 😭😭😭
OH MY GOD .... simply AMAZING ..!!!!!! and a very young band is able to play one of the most difficult song about DT .... Very Good!!!!!
impressive!!!
I cried for 24 minutes
It's only 23:58 oong
Have to cry because it ended too XD
C'mon, it's not that bad
What
Yeah, I know that feeling. Absolutely amazing!
19:30 : tears flows.... what an emotional tones... 😭 great job guys.... 🤘😍👏👍👍
Wow, amazing! Your keyboard player really nailed those solos which are so tricky and bizarre at points.
I really appreciate that one guy using a 7 string guitar for this song since it added more thickness to some parts of the song
I usually don't like covers of songs like this, why listen to a cover when you can listen the original?....but in this case WOW, is amazing. I can't say anything more than thank you for this piece of art!
Lord Alfajor Aguante el alfajor!! 👏
Personally I think it depends. If you are playing a song by an artist you like, for your and your fans' enjoyment it can be quite boring. On the contrary, in this case I think it's different: this is a beautiful cover. The song is not being played in the same way as the original, it's being beautifully interpreted. :)
@@lucaschacon8362 dou clave de ruta aguante el alfajorsofich
I like to listen to covers for two reasons:
1. To realice how incredible the OG band is.
2. To realice that there are incredible people out there too.
People mostly make covers to showcase there skill level or just wanting to play to a song they like and show the internet
What an epic performance. Lizzie Ng's Flute solo was flawless. Martin's vocals put him up there with the best there is. Performed with all the sweeping majesty that this particular piece of music evokes. Just epically stellar. Thank you all, for making my evening... In an ugly world, I've found another beautiful spot, to free my mind.
You can never call yourself good at anything until you can play Dream Theater with it
All I can say here is, good job
Didn't take more that 10seconds to know this is going to be ear candy :)
this entire song gives me the chills. But everything after 19:00 makes me shiver. It’s so f$&@Ing good
What can you say? I was literally choked up by the emotion you played. Though it took a while for this video to cross my path, I have to say what a pleasure I got out of watching these musicians play an extremely emotional Dream Theater piece and execute it flawlessly. Talk about being impressed. Even the vocals were flawless. My, oh my. As Jordan Rudess stated, absolutely impressed. Yes. A beautiful job.
I’m 50 yrs old 6-4 400 pounds and this gave me chills and I teared up. Just stunned
You managed to take an already great song to its best level... no matter how many times I hear it, I get goosebumps as if it were the first time. Congratulations to those involved!!
I've got no words for this. The orchestra, the guitarist, the keyboarder... I don't even know who was the best since they all perfomed so great
Well said.
Not gonna lie,
watched the whole video with eyes full of tears.😭😭 This is so amazing.
It seems I respond to this every 2 years, haha But still... every single time I watch this I am absolutely blown away by this performance. I feel heartbroken every time the song ends, haha
This is a masterpiece. YOU HEAR ME?? IT’S A BRILLIANT MASTERPIECE
I like your username
@@ConnMolnar Thanks!
It's great to see these young people play this prog masterwork with such passion and truth to the original - it makes me appreciate this album all over again. The new self-titled album doesn't move me like this, it somehow seems very sterile and uninspired in comparison. I will dust off my old Octavarium CD and give it a spin tonight! This orchestra has done a fine job with it.
Almost twenty four minutes on my life more enchanted with this band and musicians. Great job, it is beautiful, very beautiful.
You can't possibly understand how good you are!
This work is simply incredible. Congratulations to everyone for the idea, for the work, for the quality and for the colossal performance. It is a great tribute to this work of art and transports the work to another dimension. all Dream Theater members must be very proud and happy.
wow, I think the vocals would be the hardest to get right but they were spot on, nice job! And as for the rest of the band, you guys did an amazing job as well.
Hitting like button is not enough, I don't know how to express my joy watching this. You guys did so well, timing, orchestration, arrangement, so very close to the original piece.
Absolutely incredible. That must have been so much fun to play together, having every single piece in the room, the amount of energy together must have been mindblowing. Also, fuck yeah with the fucking horns at the end. They kick it until Razor's Edge and at the very end of the song they get to play the most epic four notes ever. You obviously have the respect for this song that is required to have a cover do it justice, and it showed.
15:32 I love the 7/16, 6/16, 7/16, 8/16 changes. Idk why, but they are just satisfying
One of the best covers ever made if not the best cover, and this is one of the hardest songs out there. Mad respect!
How absolutely Awesome! You guys not only nailed it, but also brought the inner essence of this song to bear. I cannot commend you folks enough! This was a daunting accomplishment, and hats off to the visionary in a school system who decided that this could and would happen. You guys ROCK!
Makes you appreciate how much musicality is with the songs dream theater composes
This is REAL musicianship.
This is amazing. The effort it took for you all to put this together cannot be expressed with just words. Absolutely brilliant.
Quando voce abrir o dicionário e procurar a palavra PERFEIÇÃO, ela vai te levar pra esse video!

Absolutely stunning! As a massive DT fan, and a particular fan of this track, I was blown away by the perfection of this video in so many areas: accuracy, execution and observation to the original to mention a few. I wish ALL music programs would do something like this. This was awesome. Nice work.
Wow Im late for this but I can't believe the quality and the dedication you put on the cover...it's perfect. The kid singing should be leading a major band right now. They are all amazing musicians. Thanks for this, it was totally moving. As a DT fan Im proud of you.
The french horn players did an amazing job
I got the biggest goosebumps at 19:00! This is an incredible effort and I love it!
Incredible. I love the Emerson Lake & Palmer tone on the keyboard during Act III.
I've been listening to DT for 20+ years and watching my favorite song played like this tearfully brought my understanding and perspective to another level. Truly remarkable !!!
I have watched this with my two young musically trained daughters numerous times in order to describe my understanding of music appreciation. Full circle: very emotional. Thank you so much for your efforts!
It has been soooooo long since some song made me shiver, what a heavenly feeling ❤️❤️🔥🔥
Still watching this 4 years after. Still one of the best covers of Octavarium ever!!
