I dont understand the motivation of the boss/owner. The guys got permission to film his day, which obviously has an effect on his productivity. But the thought of tossing a guy thats obviously solid and with integrity in a line of work that often lacks both in many consumers eyes. He wasnt really pimping the shop he worked at, but as far as the local community that they service its nice advertising, if nothing else his presence and history on youtube is a nice example that this was a good shop. Seems dumb to get rid of someone like that for anything short of gross misconduct.

I don't mean to sound sarcastic but, you might as well flip burgers for the improvement in pay if you can handle the more physically challenging job of flipping burgers that can also be more mentally challenging in assuring that the food is properly cooked and nobody gets sick from lack of attention.
I know both the security business as well as the food business and honestly speaking, If you want to get anywhere in security, I suggest applying to Homeland Security, Police services, even for Brinks for that matter because doing nothing but watching servailence monitors or driving around playing pretend a cop will not feed a family.
Your choice, do what you need to do to be happy, pay the bills, and budget/ make some sacrifices in order to put something away for the future.
Don't take this as a put down, because it isn't, complaining gets you nowhere, why look for pity instead of taking action to be where you would like to be, otherwise it's like you are standing next to the mailbox waiting for the food stamps to arrive, and if you’re okay with that, all that I ask is that people stop complaining about what others are making and put in a little mental and physical effort to get yourself to rise above! I sincerely hope that you do!

The only way to really resolve it is, like everyone is suggesting, to start your own business -- but that requires a very different skill-set than just wrenching on cars.

Ray has a good head on his shoulders and handles this much like myself would have. The best way to make a statement to a business that yourself and staff can no longer disagree at, is to politely handle everything. Take your stuff, tell them to have a good day and wish them the best moving forward. It provided some life and lesson for you during the time you were there. The next step is to get your own business up and running, hire people that have the drive you want your business to represent, and compete the best way you know how. Eventually, that can lead to much bigger and more fulfilling things.

That moment of reflection is a good thing to have. I'm the shop foreman and senior tech at my shop as well as being the primary heavy line tech(I'm the odd guy that absolutely loves heavy line). These last few weeks I've had something nagging in my head that I couldn't quite pick up on and it finally hit me this week. I'm mostly nice in conversation, but when working I'm unapproachable and come off as grouchy when I don't intend to be. As a result, starting about Tuesday of this week, I went to all of my techs in a one-on-one as well as the office and apologized to each person and offered to make amends and try to right any wrongs they may have felt. After that, I've made a conscious effort to be more positive, greet my coworkers, and try to be helpful in every situation I can. I hate toxicity in a shop so it really bothered me when I realized I was becoming one of the toxic factors of the place. The week went well. I'm going to continue with that because it really did make for a better week, especially leaving Friday and seeing my coworkers laughing and joking rather than just scatter from the parking lot. That told me that, even if I don't yet know how big my negative impact was, I know that the people that work with me were happy and that made me happy. Ray, best of luck with whatever is next!

Politics got him, they basically said it wasnt the right fit for his personality, as well as they had a discussion that turned kinda intonan argument and they but disagreed with eachother so told him he was better suited somewhere else. This is a huge corporate shop run by bean counters, all they care about is numbers and you do things their way because its policy even if their way is wrong. Its not a small shop that appreciates the help, knowledge, and feedback from employees. You do things their way, agree with everything they say and do, even if its not right, or you go. Thats why places like this have far more employment turn around than places non corporate and appreciate their employees and you can give feedback to make things better for everyone.
