Players nowadays can still play defense but the new nba rules restrict them from playing a hard defense because foul will be called eventually.I'd say the big difference would be the hustle plays like rodman has showed is almost gone in the nba right now.he was willing to sacrifice his body to save the ball.The only nba player that plays hustle almost every game that i can think of is, Noah from the same team chicago bulls.

As a young kid i. the late 80s and early 90s who was starting to understand he didn't fit in and would forever be on the outside Rodman was a hero.
