For those who are wondering about the story, from the trailer I got that: Jodie is now popular for some reason. That mean girl who wanted the Swedish guy in the first movie is the only person in Jodie’s life that’s still teasing her. That Swedish guy is there and he wants Jodie back. Short milk crate man and Jodie are not together despite that kiss in the first movie. Short milk crate man has to *gasp* develop an actual identity outside of being obsessed with Jodie. Jodie is in a musical and meets yet another guy who wants her meaning she has 3 guys after her the whole movie. And there’s some message about how “the biggest monsters we face are the ones in our own head” or something.
So yeah. Jodie is popular, she’s only got one mean person in her life, she’s apparently a talented actress, and she’s got 3 boyfriends. I have no idea what the conflict in this film is supposed to be.

The main problem with this show was it being on Disney , so there couldn't be any *REAL* conflict or challenging situations. Boy meets world dealt with puberty, hormones, sexual attraction, bullying, alcohol abuse, abusive parents, broken homes, parents being laid off, challenges of school , failing in life, feeling lost in the world... one of the best seasons wasnt even about Corey , it was Eric being lost in the world when he was done high school and didn't have good enough grades for College right away - Girl meets world had NONE of this. There was no challenge for these kids that wasn't summed up with ham-fisted lines and terrible dialogue.

Or both of them standing up at someone’s GOD FORSAKEN FUNERAL and delivered a speech about how today they learned that the world doesn’t revolve around them at the age of like 13 I genuinely don’t know which of these characters we’re supposed to like is worse. I mean, as a 12 yo girl, being told one of your best friends might have a diagnosis, that you 1: know nothing about (because, how would you), 2: don't know if it's good, but diagnosis' usually aren't so you assume the worst, and 3. dont know what consequences that follows, probably isn't all too nice to hear.
I don't wanna defend the way the episode presented the subject of autism, but I can't see how it's a flaw of the character that she don't want something to drastically change her world, or even that this might just be how this kid copes with stuff like this.
The writers did a poor job of handling the subject for sure, they could have clarified it in the end that Autism isn't a bad thing, just that people are different, or even embracing Farkle having autism, instead of what they did.
But for gods sake, they aree 12-13 yo teenagers, not grown adults.

So I blame THEM for not having the show's other tween/teen characters grow, become educated and ultimately show support for Farkle regardless of whatever the experts chose to diagnose him instead of having them (and Cory+Topanga as well as Farkle's own parents) treat the possible autism diagnosis as though it was a terminal condition that would have doomed him to have a sad fate!

Note that when Maya got a better grade, it was because she had applied herself instead of letting Riley do her homework! That was not the case for boy meets world which is why i loved it so much, they explained sometimes you wont find the correct answer and sometimes would take them episodes to figure something out which is realistic.

The big difference between the shows comes from the fact that they aired on different Networks which means the production and writing was entirely different. Boy Meets World and its 7 seasons all aired originally on ABC not Disney Channel (Disney picked up ABC in the middle of the shows run and Disney only ran reruns). This allowed the writers and producers to create a great show that was for preteens and teenagers that dealt with serious issues, as well as some light hearted stuff. Meanwhile Girl Meets World was produced by Disney. Disney has shown that when it comes to producing their own original shows, they do pretty well, however, when they’re producing and writing remakes of something else they do poorly. Girls Meets World was an okay show but it could never stand up to its predecessor. Disney didn’t really understand what made Boy Meets World special. Everything for the most part in Boy Meets world feels natural. The lessons they learned and experiences they went through felt genuine. Meanwhile in Girl Meets World almost everything is given to them and almost nothing is ever earned. For example look at the teaching styles from Mr. Feeny and Corey as teachers.
Mr. Feeny would try his best to teach Cory, and Eric for different reasons. Cory was being a bad student on purpose for the sake of Shawn at times (not wanting him to feel left out) and his own developed laziness because of this. Feeny new Corey was smart if he just tried instead of wanting to fit-in.
Feeny would try understanding and tough love with Eric because he knew Eric’s laziness was out of fear of not making it in the real world. He knew Eric could be great but only if Eric let go of his fear and stop making excuses for himself. Mr. Feeny was genuinely trying to help but not overstep his boundaries.
Once Cory becomes a teacher, he pretty much force-feeds whatever lessons about life he can into the lesson plan for his history class. It’s gets to a point where his own students call it out. That made it seem like Disney was making fun of Mr. Feeny as if he did the same thing. This shows that the Disney producers never understood the original show. That’s why they should have just left it alone or have it Produced on FreeForm

    • @wardarcade7452

the aspergers episode is actually so infuriating though because the whole episode you watch everyone react so poorly to it and treat it like it’s some horrible disease that’s gonna change how they view farkle if he has it and like it’s the end of the world if he does which can be so so damaging for kids who are on the spectrum.

Let’s face it, nobody *wants* to be on the spectrum. It’s a medical condition that has baggage like anything else. I think it’s appropriate for people to hope that their friend doesn’t have a certain condition. It’s not really that different than hoping someone doesn’t have cancer. That doesn’t mean we treat people with medical conditions poorly, but it’s okay to hope your loved ones are healthy.

I remember watching an episode where Sabrina's character Maya was doing better in school wasn't getting detention all the time and by the end of the episode the "moral lesson" was that Maya was changing into Riley and they were MAD about it. Like shouldn't you have friends that inspire you to be better? Maya is Riley inspiration. Yet when Riley is being one for Maya it equates to an identity crisis? The only thing that good that came out of the show is Sabrina Carpenter getting her start in the industry. She's way to talented for Disney.

Another problem is the writing just isn't as good and the line delivery is pretty bad. I know they're child actors, but they just don't give the same performance that BMW children did at their respective ages. Maybe the writers just don't know how to write girl dialog that feels natural. I think the supporting roles were also lacking. I mean Corey just doesn't work as both Feeney and his own father roles. Even the way they portray the diagnosis is awful, they talk as if having autism or not is something that you can tell by a physical exam or something and it isn’t, they say Farkle had all the signs of being autistic but then they say he isn’t, and it’s said that Smackle was diagnosed when she was 5 and Farkle was being tested by doctors and all during his teenage years and the thing is that’s the exact opposite, it’s usually easier for autistic boys to be diagnosed at an early age because the way it’s done is usually more adapted to the signs boys show but autistic girls tend to be diagnosed in their teenage years, this episode would have worked much better if Smackle was the one who was being tested for an autism diagnosis and Farkle told her he was diagnosed with autism at age 5 but he rather not tell his friends about it until then

This show is the definition of great potential, weird execution.
Even back when it was first airing, I could tell something was off with the way the dialogue was delivered. Still a lot of good episodes in this show though

@@reannagordon Sorry, but I don't entirely buy the 'everything that went wrong with GMW was ALL Disney's fault'. I never heard of the writers complain that Disney forced them to write Riley as a meddlesome, annoying jerk who constantly told everyone how good& nice she was and with all her peers worshiping her. If they wrote her that way, that's on THEM!

Can we talk about the college party episode and how the college girls threatened to expose Josh for being a p3d0 if he didn't sit down. And they encouraged Josh and Maya's relationship. Why did Disney think it was okay to encourage a college student dating a 13-year-old. That's weird

Honestly, as someone who was a fan of the show as a kid and then later did a rewatch as an adult, it's very frustrating. A lot of the dialogue feels awkward and almost too self-aware to come across as natural, as well as the over-the-top emotions and declarations every other moment. However, it had it's moments. Just recently, I was watching the season 1 episode where Maya's mother was introduced. It was kind of chunky, but overall I liked it. Especially Maya's painting depicting only half of her mother and the symbolism behind that. And how she ends with, "She'll be okay with just half." Kind of like acceptance. I also liked how their characters mellowed out a little towards the last season, although it was still over-the-top. I feel like if the writing had been just toned down a litte, more show, less tell, it had potential.
